1990s POLL - TRACKS and ALBUMS (revised) Voting Deadline, October 1st

Voting ends tonight at midnight Gear! time.

Pick your favourite 30 tracks and 30 albums (or fewer if you like) from the nominated lists, put them in order and send them to Gear!.

Go on - let the good polls roll.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 1 October 2004 09:15 (twenty years ago)

err....this should be on ILM, I'm guessin'.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 1 October 2004 13:58 (twenty years ago)

I think Nick is trying to get more ILEcentric people voting. Possibly to stop the list being swamped by US indie rock.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 1 October 2004 14:05 (twenty years ago)

I voted, will you do any less!

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 1 October 2004 14:11 (twenty years ago)

ooh, I forgot to trackvote. Must do that now.

(ILX sighs as Belle and Sebastian get several more votes)

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 1 October 2004 14:25 (twenty years ago)

Matt DC guesses right, and I'm not sighing, Mark!

Alba (Alba), Friday, 1 October 2004 14:26 (twenty years ago)

Well, maybe I am, but there are good sighs.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 1 October 2004 14:26 (twenty years ago)

i totally skewed my ballot towards hip hop and dance, even though i like plenty of indie records from the 90s. am i bad? :(

pete b. (pete b.), Friday, 1 October 2004 15:12 (twenty years ago)

No, it's the only way.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 1 October 2004 15:13 (twenty years ago)

(Said the man who voted for 69 Love Songs at No.1)

Alba (Alba), Friday, 1 October 2004 15:13 (twenty years ago)

I VOTED FOR US INDIE ROCK! and the backstreet boys, and aqua.

HAHAHAHAHA

jel -- (jel), Friday, 1 October 2004 15:23 (twenty years ago)

You're allowed.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 1 October 2004 15:24 (twenty years ago)

I voted for Aqua too, but I have no US indie rock on my conscience.

Wooden (Wooden), Friday, 1 October 2004 15:28 (twenty years ago)

I voted for U.S. indie rock*! Somebody cancel me out!

*although Polvo just barely missed, sorry jel

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 1 October 2004 15:36 (twenty years ago)

Oh :(

I voted for Betty Boo you'll be pleased to know Alba.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 1 October 2004 15:38 (twenty years ago)

Right, both votes down. I thought it'd be hard to find 30 for each, but for tracks I originally had a shortlist of 57! I'm afraid it was bad news for Beck at no. 31.

(69 Love Songs was only no. 2 for me, N.)

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 1 October 2004 16:04 (twenty years ago)

I was surprised to just note that I only voted for one US alt-rock track. If there'd been certain Pixies or Sonic Youth tracks on this list then I would have voted for them. A few albums though (5?)

Alba (Alba), Friday, 1 October 2004 16:07 (twenty years ago)

Nick, I only had 1 US alt-rock track unless you count either Red House Painters or Magnetic Fields. No Trigger Cut omg wtf??

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 1 October 2004 16:35 (twenty years ago)

I voted for 11 American Alt-Rock tracks, and Hanson and Puffy.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 1 October 2004 16:37 (twenty years ago)

I am girding myself for the biggest outbreak of irionic voting since Warren Harding.

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 1 October 2004 16:58 (twenty years ago)

VOTE!

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 1 October 2004 21:29 (twenty years ago)

first person to post a picture of Puffy and his shirt gets a visit from Mr. Obvious's henchmen.

lemin (lemin), Friday, 1 October 2004 22:13 (twenty years ago)

The four Sonic Youth tracks weren't good enough, Alba? Even I had to say no to two of them.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Friday, 1 October 2004 22:37 (twenty years ago)

(That wasn't supposed to be a hint to vote for "Four", BTW.)

sundar subramanian (sundar), Friday, 1 October 2004 22:40 (twenty years ago)

This list will be very interesting! There are a couple of usually overlooked bands that will place 2-3 albums in the top 50, methinks.

Gear! (Gear!), Friday, 1 October 2004 22:40 (twenty years ago)

you should have let me vote.

RJG (RJG), Saturday, 2 October 2004 10:10 (twenty years ago)

Maybe they were sundar, but I didn't know them, except 'Wish Fulfilment'. My 90s SY knowledge is quite poor. I just wanted 'Tunic'.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 2 October 2004 10:25 (twenty years ago)

its ok sundar - I'm probably the only one who voted for that...

x-post

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 2 October 2004 10:25 (twenty years ago)

I can't believe I forgot to vote for "California Love" :(

Markelby (Mark C), Saturday, 2 October 2004 15:02 (twenty years ago)

thirteen years pass...

I got my ballot in!
