Known to his foes as the man of steel, he is in town to oversee the Bloomsday celebration in an unofficial capacity. We shall be drinking on Wednesday, probably in The Lord Edward.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 14 June 2004 14:39 (twenty-one years ago)

The thread title makes this sound like a fox hunt.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 14 June 2004 14:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Wednesday or Wednsnight?

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 14 June 2004 15:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Night, around 8 pm I guess. Maybe 7?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 14 June 2004 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

sounds good.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 14 June 2004 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

i might pop in for a beer or two...

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Monday, 14 June 2004 17:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Me and the pinefox are going to go for food first, then head up to the Lord Edward about 7. So that people who have to go home and get to bed can do that.

The pinefox is also looking for willing volunteers to bunk off work on Wednesday and go to Howth with him. Assuming the weather's nice, of course.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Monday, 14 June 2004 18:00 (twenty-one years ago)

The Vicar will not believe where we are going on Thursday.

the finefox, Tuesday, 15 June 2004 07:43 (twenty-one years ago)

+ England - Switzerland, 5pm Thu: where to go? Nealon's?

Howth volunteers still welcome.

the finefox, Tuesday, 15 June 2004 07:44 (twenty-one years ago)

which has nothing to do with this FAP, which is on Wednesday in the Lord Edward.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 07:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, those are four diifferent things (there).

the finefox, Tuesday, 15 June 2004 07:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I think it might be time to go to Dalkey.

the junefox, Tuesday, 15 June 2004 08:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Please pass best wishes onto accentmonkey, foxman.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 08:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I will, a chara, to show there's no ill feeling.

Hm - is that a misquotation? I am not sure about it now.

We were talking about you last night and your ILB footy thread. A consensus is emerging that you can be called 'Mickey'.

I think it might be time to go to Dalkey.

the junefox, Tuesday, 15 June 2004 08:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I have been to Howth. It's very nice. The chap on the train didn't understand where I wanted to go because I didn't pronounce it 'Hoath'.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 08:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Mickey is so blue collar. My butler wqould never agree to it.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 08:35 (twenty-one years ago)

That 'q' in word eight is silent.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 08:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't go to Dalkey.

I walked to Donnybrook.

the finefox, Tuesday, 15 June 2004 18:00 (twenty-one years ago)

New plan: watching England vs Switzerland chez Farrell.

FAP after that? It is essential, I think. Nealon's?

Last night I talked to RONAN. He works at a dance record shop called... I cannot remember what it is called, on Temple Bar. We are going to meet, tonight, somehow.

Goodness - is it raining outside?

It IS, you know!

the junefox, Thursday, 17 June 2004 07:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Howth news: the train broke down and the passengers had to 'de-train' and walk up the tracks, sleeper by sleeper! Like refugees on the unarmed rails of flight.

the howthfox, Thursday, 17 June 2004 07:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I have been to Howth. It's very nice. The chap on the train didn't understand where I wanted to go because I didn't pronounce it 'Hoath'.

Thanks to Miller, I can once again tell people where I went for my holidays with Claire and Rob in 1997 (cos I'd forgotten how to pronounce it). I may start a "blog" called Thanks To Miller. With parallel "miniblogs" called Thanks To Muller and Thanks To Stiller. The content of these should be obvious, but isn't.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Thursday, 17 June 2004 08:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Call me an egomaniac, but I would like that blog, you know.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Thursday, 17 June 2004 08:04 (twenty-one years ago)

How far did you get round Howth? Surely not the whole cliff walk?

Every time I go there these days it proves impossible to make very much Howth Headway into that project.

The fish & chips yesterday cost the best part of 10 euro. Maybe the bottle of Sprite was the key in this. I tried to eat them up on a sea wall with the blue blue sea beneath me, but the winds were too strong.

It turns out that Beshoff's (fish & chips) are originally Russian, but I still believe that the Howth branch is run by Italians. There is a hilarious passage about Italian fish&chipshop owners in chapter 16 of Ulysses, that you should all have a look at. And read, also.

the howthfox, Thursday, 17 June 2004 08:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope Mike did the crunchy MicroHowth tour.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Thursday, 17 June 2004 09:16 (twenty-one years ago)

"The fish & chips yesterday cost the best part of 10 euro. "
The weekend on Martha's Vineyard was a pricey affair. my sticker shock came at the price of ice cream. Two small ice creams and one large...fourteen dollars!!! $14.00!!!! Granted, mine was Sinful Chocolate. perhaps Sinful Chocolate is one dollar per bite. Fourten dollars! My thrifty yankee and Scottish ancestors are rolling in their graves!

aimurchie, Thursday, 17 June 2004 12:07 (twenty-one years ago)

dublin prices make me want to cry. when i was there in february, i paid 30 euros for lunch for two (veggie burgers!) and then later paid 6.80 for a vodka with mixer.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 17 June 2004 14:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Dublin welcomes tourists in the same way that Venus Flytraps welcome flies.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 17 June 2004 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

apparently he is going to be in NEALONS on CAPEL STREET tonite from 8.00pm.

god only knows where I will be.

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 17 June 2004 15:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Vicar, really - what is wrong with Dubliners these days?

I am starting to think they don't like me.

the junefox, Thursday, 17 June 2004 15:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Or drinking.

the finefox, Thursday, 17 June 2004 16:02 (twenty-one years ago)

PS / I have been to SKERRIES! It was exciting.

the finefox, Thursday, 17 June 2004 16:03 (twenty-one years ago)

RONAN is coming out tonight, Ronan fans.

the finefox, Thursday, 17 June 2004 16:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm bloody exhausted now (not to mention hung over), so there will be no drinking laughs for me. The Pinefox and I watched the fishing boats come in to Skerries harbour and the seals following them.

The coastline around Skerries is really very picturesque.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Thursday, 17 June 2004 16:44 (twenty-one years ago)

It's thrue what she's afther sayin'.

The coast is wildly rocky.

In a concrete changing room at the edge of the sea in the middle of nearly nowhere, walls splashed with grafitti: 'Bush + Blair - See you @ The Hague'.

the junefox, Thursday, 17 June 2004 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

perhaps i can go to see the seals in july. that sounds extremely soothing.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 17 June 2004 17:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I went upwards in Howth. I got quite high up but there was no one about and it was getting dark so I went back down again. I think there was heather.

Foxy, have you been to Nora's house in Galway? If not, one-nil.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Thursday, 17 June 2004 19:30 (twenty-one years ago)

PF - I am VERY TIRED, and am between holidays. of course I still wuv you.

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 17 June 2004 21:40 (twenty-one years ago)

what a fun night. oddly, and yet typically, I was waiting at the nightbus stop after saying goodbye to PF and Andrew, when I met some friends of mine who had just got off the bus. anyway they harangued me into going for a pint. so eventually I ended up in the club I run with my friends, from which I was meant to be having a night off tonight, and it's now 4.09. I am a cliché.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 18 June 2004 02:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I still can't believe I met the Pinefox. We shook hands. There is a photo recording this moment of reconciliation, in Dublin.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 18 June 2004 02:49 (twenty-one years ago)

You also said you'd do him a mix tape, that he would enjoy at least one track on.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 18 June 2004 07:50 (twenty-one years ago)

haha!

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 18 June 2004 08:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I love the both of you.

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 18 June 2004 08:12 (twenty-one years ago)

x-post pre-Cozen:

He did?

It's going to include a Sundays track?

It's true about the photo. I will get Farrell to post it maybe?

Ronan and I agreed about some things, eg. Alex Ferguson; and discussed Sean O'Casey, in some detail. He also explained how DJs mix one record into another.

I did not know he ran a club.

It is raining in Dublin, 6 hours after Ronan's odd, typical post.

the finefox, Friday, 18 June 2004 08:13 (twenty-one years ago)

PS / Miller: one-nil? I doubt it. I think that makes it about... 6-2 to me. Unless we are talking about Ireland generally, rather than Joycean stuff, in which case perhaps... 2-2, or 3-2 to you.

the finefox, Friday, 18 June 2004 08:17 (twenty-one years ago)

He also explained how DJs mix one record into another.

I love this image. How long before the Pinefox feels a voibe?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 18 June 2004 08:25 (twenty-one years ago)

He explained it in broad terms, search for a different term whenever resistance was sensed, like a true master. At no point was the topic of crossfaders broached.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 18 June 2004 08:29 (twenty-one years ago)

No, it's a Joyce competition.

I've met someone from Trieste. Ner-ner.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Friday, 18 June 2004 08:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I did not do much talking last night due to *the tiredness* (ranting aside). It was great to see Ronan again, the Pinefox should visit more often.

Lara (Lara), Friday, 18 June 2004 17:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you think the tiredness was down to the ranting?

the finefox, Saturday, 19 June 2004 09:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't believe I missed Lara. Two Byrnes together, what fun it would have been.

In fact I always fear meeting internet people, in case we all turn out to hate each other.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Saturday, 19 June 2004 09:52 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.tryfoneblog.com/photo/1b/8c/2f0c62a25a3f.jpg?tw=305&th=228&_rh=dg3uha98svca1yqjjtes3s9qa

That historic handshake in full.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 21 June 2004 13:45 (twenty-one years ago)

This is the point in the proceedings where I realise that these people are mortal enemies of mine whom I have sworn to overthrow. But I say nothing. I bide my time.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Monday, 21 June 2004 14:09 (twenty-one years ago)

andrew - brilliant!

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 21 June 2004 21:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I look pale and balding.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 21 June 2004 22:03 (twenty-one years ago)

The pinefox looks photoshopped in.

The photo is DV's doing.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 21 June 2004 22:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I think that possibly you may have to remove that picture.

It is funny that Cozen is reading the thread.

the finefox, Tuesday, 22 June 2004 10:25 (twenty-one years ago)

'photoshopped'.

More like flown in, from the Planet Tired

Mooro (Mooro), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

'photoshopped'.

More like flown in, from the Planet Tired.

Mooro (Mooro), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

So rubbish he said it twice.

Mooro (Mooro), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 14:26 (twenty-one years ago)

!!
