Alright...let me explain this as best I can.

I'm 15. I have no idea on the difference between democrats and republicans.

-What are the basic differences between democrats and republicans?
-What are the main ideas that Bush and Kerry are presenting for the upcoming election?
-Who are you voting for?

Plus any other pertinent information. Thanks.

-What are the basic differences between democrats and republicans?

Theoretically, the former is left wing and the latter is right wing. Theoretically.

-What are the main ideas that Bush and Kerry are presenting for the upcoming election?

Bush: "I rule!"
Kerry: "He sucks."

-Who are you voting for?

Not Bush.

"Not Bush."

They should seriously put that on the ballot.

I think very basically, republicans favor a conservative interpretation of the constitution whereas democrats favor a more loose or liberal interpretation of the constitution.

It's hard to do this without coming off biased.

Republicans claim to be in favor of small government wherever possible. But this is really murky, I mean sometimes they oppose welfare, but not always, and I think they're in favor if medicare, which are two socialist ideas.

I better just stop, Im making things worse.

However, I am not voting Bush.

Keep in mind, I'm only 18 and this is the first time I'm voting, so don't mind me.

I'm left of democrats, what you might call a mixed-economy socialist. Neither party really represents my views, but democrats come closer.

I think republicans believe more in individuality and democrats believe more in people helping each other out. Republicans think welfare is wrong, because it should be every man for himself. Poverty is somehow a person's fault, in the republican view. Democrats think that poverty is a social ill that needs fixing. Republicans tend to be religiously conservative - they feel that the traditional hetero family structure and church should dominate. That church, not government, should be the force of charity.

It is interesting to note that the Republican party was founded as the anti-slavery party (Lincoln). Somewhere along the line, they seem to have switched philosophies.

Also, historically you can trace it all back to the federalists and anti-federalists, but you'll take a government class and learn that all soon enough.
