This is the thread for the protracted discussion of all proposed meeting points, camping spots, essential items, bands to avoid, requests for narcotics*, and other ephemera surrounding this year's Glastonbury Festival...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 21 June 2004 09:47 (twenty-one years ago)

*not really, your honour.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 21 June 2004 09:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Charlie I'll have half a ki....oh hang on!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 21 June 2004 09:49 (twenty-one years ago)

half a kit bag?

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 21 June 2004 09:50 (twenty-one years ago)

it's better than half a farthing! just ask tommy Steele.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 21 June 2004 09:52 (twenty-one years ago)

The only thing I am planning is to be in front of the Other Stage on Saturday and Sunday night. As there are hardly any bands I really want to see, I'm looking forward to just drifting a bit this year, wandering about, meeting random people and friends for beer, playing the whole thing by ear, having the kind of Glastonbury broadsheet writers always pretend they've had.

Ronan and I are going on the brain machine, though. He promised about four months ago.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 June 2004 09:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Matt DC is otm here. Pretty shitty line up this year, so maybe me & James will just get married!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 21 June 2004 09:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I quite like the idea of waking up in a field with zero memory of the night before and slowly realising I have a new sham wife, Vegas-style.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey! I am NO sham wife!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:15 (twenty-one years ago)

(Is Jimmy Pursey married, btw?)

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:17 (twenty-one years ago)

What, you mean you're actually going to marry James, instead of some random hippy? Where's your sense of adventure?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:19 (twenty-one years ago)

BBC says full sun now back for Thursday!!!. (actually I'd rather it was a bit cooler on Thursday, what with bags and stuff).

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:19 (twenty-one years ago)

FUCK THE WEATHER, LET'S DANCE!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude, he is the only person I'd consider going near in a rudey manor after 4 days of not washing!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:21 (twenty-one years ago)

You're planning not to wash?

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Well you wont be able to have a leisurely bath there will you!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I insist on an African pit douche every morning.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:22 (twenty-one years ago)

You know what I mean!!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Is that a method of a euphemism? heh!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:23 (twenty-one years ago)

OK - what about ETAs for people? I'm leaving London at about 6:30AM. Your guess is as good as mine about when I'll actually be there, but I'll be there before all you coach people. I could try to prepare an area for any of you coach people who want to camp SW-stylee.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:25 (twenty-one years ago)

We are leaving cambridge at 6.00 in the morning!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:30 (twenty-one years ago)

after playing football in the driving rain yesterday i'm ready for anything

stevem (blueski), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Allegedly leaving London at 9am, but my driver's legendary inability to do anything on time ever ever may yet put paid to that idea.

ETA: probably about 4pm. Not camping with you monkeys though, setting up a rogue camp elsewhere...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah we wont be camping with you lot I guess!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:41 (twenty-one years ago)

so no ILX super-camp, then? boo :(

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:45 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm getting a 9.30 train from paddington, should be on site 12ish? camping in the green fields, as ever.

pete b. (pete b.), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:47 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm going up with 3 other people (3 tents between us), one of whom i don't know, so basically i'm trying to find/organise/join you lovely folks somewhere, the more the merrier... (but of course don't want to upset the social balance if some of you have already agreed camping teams, etc. it's ok, really. *sniff*)

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, er, I don't think that anyone's really organised anything beyond the gang of us who are going on the bus together.

Ricardo (RickyT), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Rob, I'm going with about 10 other ppl, the only reason I can't say where I'll be is down to the fact that I have no idea. We're hoping to meet up on the thursday though, you can have my mob number if you like, not that i think it'll be any use!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:55 (twenty-one years ago)

The glasto plan: Brothers bar, 7pm, Thursday. All other plans are fictions, and will melt in direct sunlight/direct rain.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 21 June 2004 10:55 (twenty-one years ago)

good plan andrew! although i'm more concerned about where to pitch ye ol tent when i get there. i will likely arrive well before the bus people, which will make it tricky...

if someone can post a slick site map (one that is indexed?) then we can compare notes about our rough plans for camping areas. obviously we won't know diddly squat about exact spots until we get there, so anyone who is trying to camp together, speak up, exchange mobile #'s, etc... i'm aiming to camp in SW or greenfields.

(no i'm not trying to be the steering committee - that would be a near-impossible task!)

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 21 June 2004 11:15 (twenty-one years ago)

am i harshing everyone's buzz now? haha

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 21 June 2004 11:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I think the alternatives are:

1) You're not camping with us.
2) You hang around, tent unpitched, until we arrive.
3) You find a space for a dozen tents, pitch your tent and defend the area against all comers until we arrive. Then we camp by the New Bands Tent anyway.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 21 June 2004 11:22 (twenty-one years ago)

(those are not in order of preference!)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 21 June 2004 11:22 (twenty-one years ago)

haha that's pretty much what i figured andrew! since options 2 and 3 mentalism of the highest order, i may have to just accept that i'll be camping somewhere with strangers, which is fine by me. mind you this can be a bit of a crapshoot...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 21 June 2004 11:27 (twenty-one years ago)

um, depending on how the f**tball goes tonight, there might be an england match at 7.45 on the thursday...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 21 June 2004 11:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I've made arrangements for a 2-1 win by Croatia tonight, it shouldn't be a problem.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Andrew, if that actually IS the scoreline, then Mark C's prediction on the other thread will be correct.

Fuck this early evening shit - Brothers Bar from 5.00 Thursday. Then we can go wander and watch/listen to the footy if need be. Also Lock Tavern Friday night after the bands are over. We can organise mini day meetups as and when via the miracle of mobile telephones.

There is also the possibility they're not showing it AT ALL, in which case someone needs to bring a radio.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Which one's the other thread? He's not on the Glasto Thread.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm talking about his prediction that an Ilx0r would die at Glasto.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Possibly lynched by Haree Krishnas after one too many shouts of "Barry!" or licked bald heads.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I will be bringing a radio.

Ricardo (RickyT), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't suppose any of you know if Tom's Big Project was finished before he went on holiday?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:33 (twenty-one years ago)

So where's best to camp then guys?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:35 (twenty-one years ago)

That reminds me - I saw something about home-made vibrators on the web.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:35 (twenty-one years ago)

PP - the south is best, but the ILE steering committee is lazy and insists on not walking anywhere past the New Bands field.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I am making a mix tape.

Anna (Anna), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:39 (twenty-one years ago)

for why is the south so cool? i don't get it - it all seems to be miles from any action, much like south london now i come to think of it.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I have a feeling we're going to end up in the first place we find big enough to cope with 19 people in about 12 tents.

Ricardo (RickyT), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:42 (twenty-one years ago)

It depends what sort of action you are talking about, Charlie. It's a voibe thing.

Ricardo (RickyT), Monday, 21 June 2004 12:42 (twenty-one years ago)

YMOF has volunteered a spare phone to plonk my SIM card into so I might be okay! But might there be "locking" issues, like his phone is locked to I dunno, Eircom or something? I've left this til far too late but I never antcipated the people in the phone shop to be such c#nts!

Pink - any idea how screwed the battery is? Mine is pretty much kaputz0r3d but a spare one might get me though, with me spending a LOT of time in the recharging places heh heh.

Actually if it rains they might be one of the driest spots...

I will have to bring some books to read this year eh.

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:59 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/s/muddycampers.jpg

From the front page - are they telling us something?

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:59 (twenty-one years ago)

That is not muddy. Fucking wusses.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Sarah - i can check tonight for you. It has been switched off for a while though which is probably not that great for the battery.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:01 (twenty-one years ago)

sarah, what network is your sim card from?

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:02 (twenty-one years ago)

spending a LOT of time in the recharging places heh heh.

wtf go to Muji and buy a battery-operated phone charger for sick squid...they're amazing, four AAA batteries charge your phone in an hour!

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:03 (twenty-one years ago)

i am getting most paranoid about my ticket getting nicked!

ooh i like the sound of that charlie!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Right, serious question - I don't need anything other than a debit card, ticket and bank statement to get in, do I?

I know we've done this, but I can't be arsed to trawl through the other thread looking.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:04 (twenty-one years ago)

HELP please, we are going on the train from paddington tomorrow (thurs) pm. we want to get the 2.35. has anyone done this on the thurs afternoon before? how mad are the crowds/queues? we have train tix already so don't need to factor in time to buy them. weren't allowed to book specific seats cos they know it will be all fresh hell if they let us. we were kinda hoping we would beat lots of people who couldn't leave until either after work on thurs, or til friday... and that the people who'd taken thursday off too would have taken the 10.30/12.30 trains... when d'you suggest we arrive there? one of us has piss all to do in the morning so we can send him to queue if necessary, the other 2 have to work in the morning...

emsk, Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I think you need one or the other matt!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:07 (twenty-one years ago)

emsk - i've got the train around that time before. it is very hectic. expect long queues at castle cary and to get on the site. we're getting a 9.30 train this year to try and beat some of the crush but i expect it'll still be mental even that early. it just can't be avoided!

pete b. (pete b.), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Emsk - getting into the festival through Castle Cary is fairly easy, you'll have to queue for a little bit to get onto the coach that takes you to the site, but not really that long.

Leaving from Castle Cary, on the other hand, is a fucking nightmare. Get there as early as possible otherwise you and hundreds of others will be penned up outside the station for hours.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Muji. Battery operated phone charger. Sick squid. Charlie. Charlie Charlie. Haven't I always said you were brilliant?

(My phone battery is TOTALLY ruined though so like, no-one actually CALL me, text happy, like :))

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:15 (twenty-one years ago)

my phone's fully charged. at Glasto it usually dies Sunday around noon for me.

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:17 (twenty-one years ago)

i am usually there on a Wednesday afternoon tho. it feels dead weird still being in London. yes the ironing.

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:20 (twenty-one years ago)

How long does one of these charger things last & could anyone see themselves to getting an extra one?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:24 (twenty-one years ago)

and where the hell do you buy wellies between Old St and Charing Cross at this late hour?

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Can I just say that mail sacks rock hard in terms of carry lots of crap that isn't too heavy but is bulky. They also have lots of prole chic.

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Speaking of which are you still bringing that Soviet Flag?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:27 (twenty-one years ago)

wind-up

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Steve - surely the big Bhs/Debenhams/M&S on Oxford Street will do them?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:28 (twenty-one years ago)

You offer men in wellies hard cash for their footwear.

x-post. Yes. Commie bastard flag in the mail sack.

Speaking of which - given I'll be arriving with my group at around 5-6am, how shall I find the Ilx massif? Can someone text me the location when base camp is established?

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought that "wind-up" link was going to be a link to the Glaso message board threads about how they are already towing cars out of the mud.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:29 (twenty-one years ago)

6pm, Brothers Bar!

How often must this be said!!!

(see without a phone I will lose you ALL!!!!)

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Er if you want a battery charger thing shout NOW as I am going in like, 5 mins...

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

thankss! i am not expressing myself very clearly though - once at castle cary we'll be fine, expecting mad busyness from people from all corners of everywhere arriving at once so will not be thrown by that. my concern is will they let us on the bluddy train at paddington...

emsk, Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Dave, you're arriving 5am Friday morning right? God knows... we'll need some sort of landmark. I'll give you a bell when we're camped.

And its 5pm Brothers Bar.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

If by 'sick' you mean 6 quid then yes please!!!!!! thx!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:34 (twenty-one years ago)

at paddington they marshall everyone into a special glastonbury queue area and fill up each train as it comes. if you don't fit on one, you'll get on the next, they go fairly often don't they?

pete b. (pete b.), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Argh - need charger thing from Starry - are you there Starry?

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Ericsson T610 like

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Two years ago when I took the train from Paddington there was a bomb scare at the station two minutes before my train was due to leave and we all got marshalled out onto the street, thousands of us. That was entertaining.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yeah mines a nokia!! aarrrggghhhh!
need to go home!!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Right gotcher - I'll need the pennies back at Glasto I'm afraid :) I'll sort yer - I'm sure yer phone issues will be okay, I'm Nokia too!

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:49 (twenty-one years ago)

They have phone chargers for all networks in the Nokia tent. But please do not rely on your phones, it harshes the buzz.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:51 (twenty-one years ago)

GETTING LOST IS GOOD.

WHEN I WERE A LAD NO ONE HAD A PHONE AT GLASTO AND DID WE DIE OF LONLINESS? NO WE DID NOT...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

phones increase the buzz of the site generally, if you take my meaning

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:54 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm starving and still need wellies, torch and possibly a blanket so i'm gonna head off now and see folk in pub in t' due course

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm taking my phone this year, because you just look like such a twat if you don't, but i still don't believe they are necessary.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Grandad, we love you, grandad we do

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:57 (twenty-one years ago)

cheers pete. they don't seem to go that often - there's a 2.35 one that takes less than 2 hours, then a 2.45 one that takes 3 hours, then none for another 2 hours. obv we want the 2.35 one, otherwise my bro will be left destitute when he gets in to castle c... perhaps they are lying though. they lied to me last year about the existence of a train from castle cary to bristol (i swore there was one cos i'd taken it a couple of times before, they denied all knowledge. there was one).

emsk, Wednesday, 23 June 2004 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

SARAH - i'll give you the cash at glasto no worries. £6 yeah?
i've emailed u my number!

See you all tomorrow guys!! *mwah*

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

There is a train from CC to Bath though. I've a gotten that one before I'm a sure.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Right then - I AM OFF! See you at Glasto.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 15:22 (twenty-one years ago)

see you all there, folks!

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 15:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Ditto.

Well I'll see some of you inverpub.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 15:40 (twenty-one years ago)

rraaaargh i am suddenly ridiculously excited! it's wet, it's muddy, but i have wellies and waterproofs and warm clotheses and an umbrella and a camping stove and bloody hell, i shan't melt anyway. and it won't be as bad as '98 because the ground turned to liquid only because of weeks of relentless torrents. yay!

emsk, Wednesday, 23 June 2004 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

it's all good. i'm still at work but soon i will be going home (via sainsbury's to get the all important bernard matthews turkey slices, malt loaves and tracker bars) and packing and sleeping and wooo!

happy glastonbury everyone! :-)

pete b. (pete b.), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 16:32 (twenty-one years ago)

HAVE A FUN.

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 17:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Angel Sainsbury's have sold out of malt loaf! Total buzz harshener!

Ricardo (RickyT), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 20:37 (twenty-one years ago)
