Best = ummm, s'pose The Love Boat (like Fantasy Island, only on a boat! And not as good!! Plus Charo!!!). Worst = Models Inc (refer "Spelling" thread) if that was even by him. Best actress = Tiffani- Amber Theissen!!

Seventh HEaven
Because i love the fact that the man responsible for hours of catfights and cheap sex is now making a show that trys to impart "family values"

anthony, Sunday, 8 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

'Mod Squad' - I love the idea of 'hip' informers working for 'the Man'!

tarden, Sunday, 8 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

luke perry's hair in the first two 90210's plus spawning I Hate Brenda, plus the fianl epsiode where Brenda couldn't be fucked coming back from art school in London = 90210 rocks

Geoff, Sunday, 8 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Wuz The Heights a Spelling sho?

JM, Sunday, 8 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

90210, baby! What a cast-- Tiffani-Amber, Shannen, Luke, Iain, Brian Austin, Kathleen, Garth, and TORI TORI TORI! Mafia hits, euphoria overdoses, accidental shootings, drive-by shootings, Hawaii vacations, stern lecturing parents, teen angst from 30-yr-old actors, etc

Worst show? Isn't that kinda defeating the point of Spelling shows, to judge their "quality"?

Chris, Sunday, 8 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Remember when David Silver got addicted to crystal meth?

tarden, Sunday, 8 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Melrose would have to be my fave. Dr Kimberley Shaw when she a) comes back from the dead b) takes off her wig for the first time c) goes mad d) has matt beaten up didn't she also try to kill michael? oh and don't forget sunset beach! for sooo many reasons: voodoo curses, evil twins, a priest who fucks his brothers wife, lesley ann downes and randy spelling!

lady die, Sunday, 8 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

remember the 1st series of 90210, when the blonde guy who was david's friend, and who everyone I knew thought was gay in a cool way, blew his brains out at a birthday party - man that rocked.

Geoff, Sunday, 8 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

90210, easily. Or anything with that incredibly talented actress Tori Spelling in it... Oh, wait a minute...! :)

I still get sucked into 90210 if it's on. It's horrible. My brain screams at me that I'm watching rubbish and yet still I keep watching.

Paul Strange, Monday, 9 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Your brain is wrong and you are right. Stab it with a Q-tip to keep it quiet.

mark s, Monday, 9 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

You may be right. I stopped watching after Kelly was shot (the show stopped being aired on terrestrial TV and I don't have cable), and was hooked. Did she survive?

Paul Strange, Monday, 9 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

when it comes to tv, i am convinced that mark s is always right

i can see you're going to enjoy yourself tonight pete

gareth, Monday, 9 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Remember when David Silver got addicted to crystal meth?

And then beat his addiction two days later? God, I loved 90210...

Dan Perry, Monday, 9 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Pete sure will enjoy himself tonight as he's out with his No. 1 Ho and her alcopop habit, innit mate?

Besides Mr Spelling's shows are pretty much relegated to daytime viewing now.

Emma, Monday, 9 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

charmed. thats spelling isn't it?

gareth, Monday, 9 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

I said PRETTY MUCH relegated. And Charmed is on Channel 5 (along with 90210, Charlie's Angels, Sunset Beach - in the past etc.etc.)

Emma, Monday, 9 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Relegated to Channel 5 = promoted to the only decent channel.

mark s, Monday, 9 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

90210 without a shadow of a doubt, though I must confess to loving almost all of the programs Spelling ever produced. Vega$ must get a mentioned for the ingeniously cheesy spelling of the title, and the first acting appearance of Tori Spelling!

Remember when David Silver got addicted to crystal meth?

What I love most about this arc of episodes is that David wore a black beret when he was using the drugs (to signify his slide towards the dark netherworld of drugs) and the beret disappeared as soon as he was "clean" again.

Nicole, Monday, 9 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

ILE is just too goddamned post modern ironic for me. I'm going to the pub.

Emma, Monday, 9 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

mark, you have gone too far now, re: channel 5.

gareth, Monday, 9 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

tarden, Geoff, Nicole-- Didn't he take the crystal meth by drinking it in orange juice or some crap like that? That always puzzled me...

Chris, Monday, 9 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Channel 5 = television channel of the gods. I will hear nothing else. Except for when they show Nu Oprah like they did all afternoon, and that is crap. I want Jerry!

I'll have to throw my vote in with 90210. Though I must admit Charmed comes in a pretty close second. I mean... honestly! Get three washed up bitch actresses from the best Spelling shows ever made, and watch the fur fly. Brilliant! And the cod-wicca... you just know that a whole new generation of little girl goffs are sitting in their bedrooms wondering why their spells don't work.

Me and my ex-roomie used to be addicted to 90210. It was only ever good when someone was on drugs, tho. Usually Luke Perry. And I loved how they had to bring in TWO vixtresses to even try to take the place of the bitchmistress that was Brrrrrennnn-dar.

masonic boom, Monday, 9 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Best 90210s were those rare ones where Steve - unsung hero of show! - was central character. Esp. when he wuz required to "emote". Cue Steve walking wistfully down beach, on his lonesome, looking "lost". Cue Steve out-of-control at party, wearing keg on his head, looking "drunk". Cue exact same expression!

AP, Monday, 9 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

I often masterbted to 90210 .

does this make me pathetic

anthony, Monday, 9 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

anthony - pathetic status depends on whether it was luke perry orwhat's-his-face who played brandon as masturbatory choice. David drank his speed with oj - but man, those dj shows were pumping...and remember the deep and meaningful stares at the peach pit between dylan and brenda - swoon.

Geoff, Tuesday, 10 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

It was Luke Perry.

anthony, Tuesday, 10 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

WE DID NOT NEED TO KNOW THIS ANTHONY.

It is more interesting to hold back a bit, OK?

Emma, Tuesday, 10 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

We used to scream at the actor who played Steve, because... invariably! whenever any scene required deep emotion, what would he do? He'd bang on a pair of sunglasses! Like, hello! An actor's greatest tools are his eyes! There he is, finding out who his birth parents are, and he's got a pair of sunglasses on?

Steve was the bitch of the show. I mean, I wonder how it must have felt to be the token ugly guy amoung all those pretty boys.

I mean, Andrea was clearly the coolest character, cause she was the "straight one" and never had any problems that weren't about being poor (well, whoops, sorry, middle class) and then out of nowhere she GOT PREGNANT!!! I mean, even Brennnnnn-dar never got pregnant.

masonic boom, Tuesday, 10 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Kelly's best 90210 line wuz in first series. She's in her convertible and Brenda's mom comes out and sez, "What time's your curfew?" And Kelly's all about "EXCUSE ME?" cuz she's an out of control yoof w/ NO curfew. Whoo!

AP, Tuesday, 10 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Steve was the bitch of the show. I mean, I wonder how it must have felt to be the token ugly guy amoung all those pretty boys.

Steve is da bomb. He wore a whitefro when whitefros weren't cool (for the record: they're still not).

And his acting! As Kate said, sunglasses for any major emotional scenes, slightly befuddled expression for any other situation.

His romance with Hilary Swank on the show would have been improved a great deal if he found out she was woman posing as a guy, as opposed to a struggling single mom.

Argh, y'all shouldn't get me started on this show...

Nicole, Tuesday, 10 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

anthony is not pathetic; and how is he supposed to hold back wilst masturbating? You ever tried that - you squeeze and you squeeze, but Dylan keeps flash-popping in yr brain and...ooops

Geoff, Tuesday, 10 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Thanx, i think,Geoff.

anthony, Tuesday, 10 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

90210 r0xor. I watch occasionally with female friends who actually know the plot arc, so can explain things. The best episodes are the later ones where they keep digging for new crises, and Dylan's dad gets blown to bits, and drugs keep coming round, and the series is at once stupid and exceptionally dark.

But Charmed is, obviously, more fun. Especially as none of the episodes were joined in plot arcs, so the continuity of viewing thing wasn't an issue.
