Our only weapon is surprise

Did anyone else see in the Standard yesterday (or indeed anywhere else that the US is considering using TORTURE as a way of getting information out of terrorist suspects?!?! Oh my Christ, if this ever happens the terrorists will have won. What the fuck are they thinking? How come there hasn't been universal and extremely loud condemnation of such tactics???

Fuck me, what is happening to the world...

I thought they were considering some sort of 'truth drug' rather than physical torture?

cf Flight 714 for definitve refuation of value of truth drugs

You turn to torture when your suspects do not tell you what you are employed to hear.

The US doesn't know what torture is. These people would be laughing. "Gimme 1000 volts, what a rush!" If it's going to be a constant of who's hardest, it's no contest.

We were muttering about this on an earlier thread, Kerry and others brought it up -- there was an initial report a couple of weeks ago, I think. Interesting how I've not heard anything since, of course...

Sun newspaper sent lots of cockneys to cheer up NYC>>>yes>>they know what torture is

Um, cor, mate, er love a...um, duck. Uh, that's it. Am I Dick Van Dyke yet?

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 7 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Since the CIA shipped Latin American soldiers up to that School of the Americas shindig of theirs to train, i suspect that the U.S. knows a lot more about torture than it lets on. Besides, we don't know whether they plan to use the torture on terrorists or "terrorists" in that nebulous definition.

It's kinda amusing that Ken Starr is involved in this.

The best torture is of course sleep deprivation.

DG, Wednesday, 7 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

That's what I'm going to tell my torturer. You can pull out as many fingers and toes you like, castrate me and burn my body. But there is nothing scarier than not being able to get to sleep. Do you think it would work.

in a moment of extreme sadness, when i saw the thread title i couldn't stop myself..."Our only weapon is surprise, fear and surprise, our TWO, TWO weapons are fear, surprise etc etc", bring out the comfy pillows for me i think

carsmilesteve, Thursday, 8 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Pete thinks he's quite the funny man, but I'm right you know. You keep someone awake long enough they'll end up so desparate for sleep they'll tell you anything you want to know, plus there are no incriminating injuries or marks on the body. If you don't believe me do some research on the internet.

It's on the Internet = PROVEN BY SCIENCE!!!

Dan Perry, Thursday, 8 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I see nothing wrong with that statement.
