Fame - who gives a shit?

There's been a couple of threads about being famous recently.

I think one of the big differences between now and a few years ago is that its actually easier to be famous nowadays, with the result being that being famous is becoming less and less important and impressive.

UK: Kelly Brook, Kate Thornton, Victoria Hervey, Jade Jagger, Jamie Theakston ... you know the types I mean - the kind of people that keep Heat, OK, Hello, Now and all those mags in business.

With people from Big Brother 2000 still getting column inches - is the fame we might have craved so much in our youth, actually a bit of an anti-climax? Although I might be forced to watch these people, I don't actually admire or envy them. Is the quest for fame (how desperate these people seem!) actually quite tiresome? Something to be pitied?

I had tea with Lady Vic once, when dating her schoolfriend. She was charming and a sweetie. But it was a long time ago.

Theakston is okay. He has a song written about him. He takes the piss out of people on top of the pops. He supports Brighton.

I'm sure loads of these people are nice to know as 'normal people' its just why are they all over the papers, exactly?

Of course, maybe 'twas ever thus. This could be me just getting old and grouchy.

Theakston = creeping death.

Heat, OK, Hello, Now etc = ghastly media = consumerist voyeurism for the dumbed masses and blatant exhibitionism by the cult of celbrity = easy money for the mediators the mass media publishers. DESTROY.

I will turn it around it is the people who consume the cult of celebrity that I pity: i.e anyone would enjoys reading the tedious trivia contained in magazines such as Heat, OK, Hello, Now etc.

Good point.

pah rubbish point: if we wish to read sleb drivel then best we read it as told of those employed JUST AND ONLY TO BE SLEBS (eg not distracted and diluted by tedious boring keyboards-magazine hommage to "talent" so-called: eg becks = fake sleb as he can actually PLAY FOOTBALL jeez zzzZZZzzz but gives poor and bogus chat)

Tale of Barrymore tells more of modern world than tale of [insert hohum rockstar/novelist/politician/FILM DIRECTOR here]: they are all just corporate artisans, but MIKE IS A TORMENTED SOUL IN HELL AS WE SPEAK YAY!

If I ever met Martin Bashir I would kill him before the thought formed.

I think those who consume the cult of celebrity and those who aspire to it deserve each other.

'gives poor and bogus chat'
If only most full-time celebs (why 'slebs'?) were as interesting as you imply, mark. Paul Ross, Ainsley Harriot et al make me want to spend the rest of my life under a quilt.

ainsley harriott = talented chef = bogus sleb

paul ross = er um
