Anyone going to anything?

I've been writing reviews for the (R) LFF website, so may I recommend 'Donnie Darko' and 'L'Afrance'. Both good movies.

I'm not on commission, btw. New answers...

Is Clare Denis new film showing. Cos if it is I'm not going.

Other than that there are a few Japanese numbers which interest me. Must get my programme out.

'Eloge de l'amour' not grab you, Pete?

I'll second Donnie Darko, and raise you Waking Life, Mulholland Drive, Gosford Park, Baby Boy and The Hired Hand. Don't bother with Novocaine or Serendipity. Bully is interesting, although ultimately way too sleazy. Of the stuff I haven't seen yet, Y Tu Mama Tambien is meant to really good.

Oh oh, Waking Life, yes I do want to see that. Is Altman on the good film or the bad film of his pendulum. I didn't thiunk much of Cookies Fortune and didn't see Mr T and The Women (surely a better concept).

22 out of 55 people at the screening of Waking Life I went to walked out. Don't know what the hell they thought they were going to see... Gosford Park is good Altman, we say. Maggie Smith is fantastic in it. The only real flaw with it is Stephen Fry as a "hilarious" bumbling inspector. Ahem.

Linklater does seem to provoke rather extreme reactions. I'm the kind of sap that adores Before Sunrise, but I know people who really hate it. I'm just interested in seeing the animation mixed up with the semi-improvised Slacker type dialogue. SOunds like the perfect kind of thing to be shown under the bridge at the NFT.
