Where do I go to find programmers?

I might need a Cocoa/Quicktime/Video whizz, and someone similarly whizzy who can do MySQL and Cocoa/Java/Mono.

Blimey, er, I vaguely fit the latter, but I'm not going near macs or SQL again if I can help it.

Number of people who can program macs to any reasonable standard in the UK is vanishingly small, cos there are a vanishingly small number of jobs in it. No idea if there's anywhere specific to look, but you're almost certainly going to have to deal with pimps. Good luck, and sorry I can't be more helpful.

This is what I was worried about. There are precious few Mac apps developed in Europe full stop.

I make some great cocoa.

What?

mac user groups? are you looking to hire people or is it something that the open source community might be interested in and that you can then use?

koogs (koogs), Thursday, 1 July 2004 10:45 (twenty years ago)

hiring, wouldn't work as open source.

Damn, now I wish I'd got more involved with MySQL when I had the chance, but I got drawn deeper into a sh*ttier database instead...

maybe we can get you educated. It's all making data dance.

Ed (dali), Friday, 2 July 2004 09:01 (twenty years ago)

I can make data dance, I can make data do the safety dance. If MySQL had a nice front end like Access, it would be no problem. It would be a heck of a lot better than ACT!

My New Identity (kate), Friday, 2 July 2004 09:02 (twenty years ago)

ah, the nice front end is the one you make for it with php/mono/java/cocoa.

Ed (dali), Friday, 2 July 2004 09:07 (twenty years ago)

Check out phpMyAdmin - it's a web/PHP-based frontend for MySQL. MySQL has some great documentation, and there are a plethora of great tutorials out there for the curious.

I don't mean the GUI for the database, I mean, the nice programming tools that come in the Access box!

I should really get MySQL and muck about with it. Hey, that's something to do while ILX is down!

x-post, thanks, Andrew, I'll bookmark that.

phpMyadmin is inded a great thing

kate, I can help you install it if you like.

Ed (dali), Friday, 2 July 2004 09:09 (twenty years ago)

Groovy!

My New Identity (kate), Friday, 2 July 2004 09:10 (twenty years ago)

i've been using rekall for my mysql cd database stuff. it's meant to be a kde access forms replacement but it's still a bit beta / clunky (uses python scripts instead of access macros). and, of course, kde brings its own mass of requirements...

mysqlcc is fine as a windows-based client and doesn't require the apache and php stack.
