How should I deal with my colleague?

He is an old money sloane-esque, and about ten years my senior. He appears inept. Yesterday, he couldn't get explorer to work on his PC and asked me to help. On my guidance to right-click the start menu, he informed me - "my right mouse button isn't working - I think it is something to do with being logged onto two machines at once".

Not satisfied with this great show of technical daftness, he has spent today loudly checking whether the new start in the department can get access to the intranet. Pronounced "Int-RAAAH-net".

What with the job I am doing not going best, I am entertaining plans of ways to exhibit my annoyance... although I am not gear!, so it will probably involve me choosing to bottle up the frustration with him and go to the pub.

That'll show him

Well, quite. He is sooooooo old money though. He casually introduces golf club memberships into conversation. He is like one of those people in the sports club on the advert. I can't understand how a man has a voice so nasal.

He will leave bang on five, spends most of his day speaking to recruitment people or the IT desk and doesn't even know what anyone in his team does!

offer to bring him off if he'll stop acting the goat

You should become his guru, help him out every time he's having trouble with that there tappity light box, advise him on the modern world, become his best chum and then make sure you're in for a hefty reward in his will before stabbing him in the face and framing his nephew.

Ask him when come back bring pie.

Slowly make him realise his stupidity by being quietly better at everything than him

I will use the bring pie phrase when he leaves this evening. Then, when he doesn't bring pie tomorrow morning, Madchen's approach is plausible. Although may be way too difficult for my obnoxious intolerant self.

Andrew - I am trying that one. At the moment I keep him in a job.
