A coat like Leonard Cohen's

Winter is coming and while my black duffel coat is very pretty I feel the need to get a new one, with added elegance. You've all seen the cover of the best of Leonard Cohen (and if you've not, then sorry but maybe you're not the kind of person I need advice from). I'm not sure if it's his Famous Blue Raincoat but it's very beautiful. Double breasted, long (just above the knees), a gorgeous collar, lets say it's a kind of grey colour or maybe black. Does anyone know where I can get one of these from? I'm in England (North-West, nr. Manchester) and if you know of any clothes stores/websites/catalogues where I can get one then that'd be just fabulous. I'm considering paying a maximum of £100.

If you don't know where I can get one from, just tell me what you think of the coat anyway.

Hmmm... You seem to have extracted an incredible amount of detail from what is (on my CD version at least) a rather non-sharp, shadowy image. We're talking about the same picture, right? The famous in-a- mirror-in-Milan photo? The jacket he's wearing in it does look quite nice, but I'm definitely not seeing, for instance, the just-above- knee terminus, as the photo on mine ends just below the waist..

Ack. I don't actually own the album - I got rid of it when I'd obtained each individual album. My imagination has probably morphed that image into the real coat I want. Ok, so ignore the Leonard Cohen references above (a tad tricky seeing as it's the title of the thread, but hey...) and try to imagine a coat of the sort I described.

Actually, I'm sure I've seen him wearing the kind of coat I mean and if I see a photo of it on a site somewhere I'll post the link here to clear this matter up. Anyway...

I like my green army coat, it only cost me £15 and is nice and warm.

There's a place on the first floor of Afflecks which might do you quite well in Manchester. It's near the strange dance/northern soul record store and the bizarre 1st floor caff which no-one EVAH! goes to. Prices maybe about £40-£60? I admit I've not been for a while but it used to carry a lot of those lovely things. I just couldn't afford them, chiz sigh. A poke around there might be fruitful. As would be ye shoppes of charity.

Like this?

I've had banana bread in that caff.

Okay then, no-one who I ever went round Manchester with then. For some reason that caff had passed into legend as being The One No-One Goes To. The one on the top floor, now THERE is a classic. Although everything moved around now, chiz. Waah. I want to be taken away from London, please. Although passport haf expired so am stuck in UK for now which gives me FEAR each time I think of it.

I know that cafe, never used it mind. God know why, I despise all the flowing-trousered green-haired cretins that populate the cafe on the top floor, but that just seemed like *the* place to go. It might be due to the appeal of the gruesome air of violence given off by the huge skinhead thugs that worked there.

But this shop you mention on the first floor, is it the one owned by those friendly but rather ditzy old ladies who always have a little white dog sloping around them? I've not been there for a while but I do remember them selling a lot of utter crap - sparkly lycra tops and grandad caps. However, this does seem like the best option considering my limited funds. I'll check it out the next time I'm in Manchester (and I'll also have a peek in Pop Boutique) and let you know how my quest is going.

The photo that Sam kindly gave a link to is the picture I was referring to in my original post. However, I've merged the good bits of Len's coat with the good bits of an equally beautiful coat owned by my friend Katherine. I'll take a photo of her wearing it and post it up here so you can try to imagine this oh-so perfect coat. And I know you care..
