November Sussed Aftermath

I shouldn't be up so early but my body is on 'business time' and will not obey what is left of my brain.

Sussed 7 was a success! Vaguely sparsely attended but most who came stayed and had a good time and spent a lot at the bar. We've got another one in December, on the 5th - yet again this might well be the last if people don't show up.

Thanks hugely to Lixi, Alan, Graham, Zoe, Mark, Alex T for rocking up and having fun. All the people requesting stuff were foXoR - and also this was the first ever Sussed at which "One More Time", "Baby One More Time" and "Get Ur Freak On" were not played gasp!

Tom, Wednesday, 7 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Did you play HELP I'M A FISH?

Sarah, Thursday, 8 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hey! I might go to next month as it will be the day before my birthday party.

And lots of Pulp, so yay yay yay to DJs Cockfarmer and Carsmile! And "The new Belle and Sebastian" ha ha ha.

rosemary, Thursday, 8 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Did I say birthday party? Wishful thinking, oh dear, I just meant birthday.

rosemary, Thursday, 8 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Sorry I didn't turn up, by the way. I was having an absolutely rubbidge day where everything that could go wrong WAS going wrong and in the end couldn't hack it. Argh!

However, this did mean I was free to go to booZoR with co-worker who confessed to having NORTY DREAMS about a fellow co-workXoR. I was scandalised! And this morning I was stuck in a lift with her. I could not keep a strate face heh heh.

Sarah, Thursday, 8 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Help I'm A Fish was LAST SONG OF THE NIGHT!

I will try to scrape together some kind of playlist from my addled brain and post it later.

Next Sussed is also the day before my company 'day out' in the National Motorcycle Museum in Solihull so frankly I will need solace after that.

Tom, Thursday, 8 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Amazing! I hope you played it and THORT OF ME. Haf they got the sangria back yet? I cannot emphasise how much that would be a bonus.

Sarah, Thursday, 8 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I was in no condition to think of anyone Starry, sorry. I was thinking vaguely of Big Louie I suppose.

They haven't got the sangria back no. Alex T drank cranberry breezers all night and I drank horrible horrible rolling rock. Ugh.

Tom, Thursday, 8 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

At a wedding over the weekend one of the DJs cleared the dancefloor with 'Get Ur Freak On'. Later I cleared the dancefloor with 'One More Time'. This says something.

DV, Thursday, 8 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Actually the best thing about Help I'm A Fish is that I was playing "Hard To Explain" by Them Strokes, up went the lights and so I switched to the Fish song when the Strokes song pauses halfway through - indie euphoria turns to bafflement, I felt like the evil parkie in a Beano story.

Tom, Thursday, 8 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

indie euphoria turns to bafflement

No, no, no, crankiness turns to pop glee! Strokes: Boo! Little Trees: Yay!

rosemary, Thursday, 8 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

shit.

Alan Trewartha, Thursday, 8 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Point of information Mr Ewing, none of the evil Cranberry juice passed my lips, it was Watermelon all the way... And I'm regretting it this morning.

alext, Thursday, 8 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

[mere seconds after posting this Alex T sprinted to my bathroom, so he spoke truer than he knew]

Tom, Thursday, 8 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Tom, I only realised from looking at your playlist that Sussed is an indie disco. Party on. I must fly over to visit it sometime.

DV, Thursday, 8 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

scritti politti AND guns n roses AND pulp! i must come to this sometime

maura, Thursday, 8 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

indie euphoria turns to bafflement

Isn't this the entire Club Sussed agenda? The funny thing is that no matter how tired a trick wrong-footing indierockist kids might seem on FT/ILM, out in the wider world it's still got a lot of mileage.

Nick, Thursday, 8 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I was grinning from ear to ear all through "Probably a Robbery"! Renegade Soundwave = classic!

Did anyone find the twenty quid I lost??

MarkH, Thursday, 8 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

renegade soundwave reminded me of an old thread along the lines of "what's the ILE anthem song" and it popped into my head "Can U dig it?" PWEI.

Alan Moore, does in a real sense, know the score.

Alan Trewartha, Thursday, 8 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I have only just got home and haf had hardly any sleep. Epic journey involving a taxi to Birmingham (paid for by the hairy Mr Branson) and then via Leeds, forming a motorcycle gang along the way. I'll explain later, I have a lecture to get to (brrr).

Graham, Thursday, 8 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

you are all bastards. first you time this gig to coincide with me having to play in Manchester, the next one you coincide with me playing in London! I WANNA GO TO SUSSED!!!

katie, Thursday, 8 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

What Tom doesn't mention is the frankly on crack sequencing of tunes. I have never heard Belle and Sebastian followed by the Prodigy. I am sure I heard this, despite Tom's listing them in different sets. It was a jolly fun nite out, anyway and I'm glad I goed. Went, I mean. I'm not 100% now though. Ah well, home to the vodka jelly.

alix, Thursday, 8 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

no lixi twas not on crack, twas GRATE, i would write out my set list but am not sad trainspotter type ;) i do think we managed to play more b&s than ever before though, and also that that skee-lo track still rocks the nation, thanks once again to everyone who came, maybe one day everyone who's ever been and everyone who wants to come might all turn up on the same nite and it'd be GRATE. what is foX0r please? i thought most requestors were ok (although getting asked to play records whilst you are trying to dance is a little off putting), apart from the two blonde paininthearsX0rs, who i think were expecting a (cough) progressive house nite or summat, one of whom actually said "i don't like pop" i'm surprised she wasn't struck down by hanle y...

carsmilesteve, Thursday, 8 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Isn't this the entire Club Sussed agenda? The funny thing is that no matter how tired a trick wrong-footing indierockist kids might seem on FT/ILM, out in the wider world it's still got a lot of mileage.

Why? Or what's the point of it? Or why are you all so obsessed with indie baiting and not being indie when you are essentially indie music fans?

I still think the whole anti-indie thing on ILE/ILM is a bit sad, especially so when the sussed playlist sounds like the discos at the Bowlie Weekender.

DV, Friday, 9 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

DV, you are probably right and I don't know. It's just this thing.

Nick, Saturday, 10 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

cos we're indie AND pop. kicking against the HARDKORE indie kid who's indie cos it's cool (FOOL!) and won't abide chart pop cos it's NOT (double FOOL!).

it is a bit fish barrel shooting, but you should see their faces -- it's a PIC-TCHER!

Alan at home, Saturday, 10 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

DV the playlist above is not what I'd play given free rein. Sussed is billed as "indie/pop" therefore I play indie and pop. Left completely to my own devices I'd play about a third of the indie I do, and a lot more hip-hop and non-current pop.

Alan is right - it's nothing-but-indie people we're against, but we're also against nothing-but-pop (who are less vociferous online therefore you see less of this side on ILM/E but more intolerant in a club setting)

Tom, Monday, 12 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

you should play Shed Seven

gareth, Monday, 12 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

gareth, Monday, 12 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Stop that Gareth, invoking Shed Seven is no laughing matter.

DG, Monday, 12 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i've gone too far.

gareth, Monday, 12 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yes my boy you have. Next thing you know, we'll have Rick Witter soiling my nice clean boards.

DG, Monday, 12 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

This board has hit rockist bottom.

Tom, Monday, 12 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

gareth, Monday, 12 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You want your hair like that Toploader dude, don't you Gareth. "He's a hepcat,", you think, "I'll have that done next time I pop down the barbershop".

DG, Monday, 12 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

gareth, Monday, 12 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

What rot, I do not have your Strokes CD.

DG, Monday, 12 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

garet h, Monday, 12 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)
