nuisance in Putney

divebombing mega-midges are all over the place in Putney. hopeless at flying, they appear to just kind of aim themselves somewhere, and, like a poorly-constructed paper airplane, tend to spiral unpredictably out of control, smacking themselves hard against the table or against cheeks or hems of trousers, whereupon they scrablle their little legs furiously to regain purchase and try another banzai attack

i think they come from the wetlands near hammersmith

Dude, it's the flying ants, I think they are the queens, they're just looking for a bit of something something. They only come out a few days a year.
