probably not. I get this when I have panic atacks.

Take some Pepto.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Monday, 19 July 2004 01:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Possibly an allergic reaction. Take some Benadryl, maybe.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 19 July 2004 01:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Whats Red Rooster? Its just here, thats fried chicken, so drinking it sounds like a rather odd proposition ;P

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 19 July 2004 01:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Didn't Chris deBurgh just recently buy the original chestburster at an auction or something? I seem to remember reading that recently.

Girolamo Savonarola, Monday, 19 July 2004 01:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes he did, apparently he's also friends with John Hurt.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Monday, 19 July 2004 03:04 (twenty-one years ago)

It could be linked to indigestion/acid reflux/stomach ulcer, so Aaron's suggestion of taking some Pepto or similar antacid is a good one. A friend of mine recently started having these sudden attacks of chest pain after drinking wine or coffee (and he was convinced he was having a heart attack because the pain was so sharp). He saw the doctor and had blood tests and an ECG, and was reassured to discover it was due to excess stomach acid and not heart problems. I think he was prescribed Omeprazole for a couple of weeks and then he was absolutely fine again afterwards.

Hope you're feeling better :)

red rooster = energy drink with a heart-quaking 0.8% taurine in.

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 19 July 2004 05:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I lie in bed sometimes with these after a debauched night out. It usually scares me straight for the rest of the week.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Monday, 19 July 2004 13:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Pleurisy? Does it hurt a lot when you breath in? If so, your lung membranes are getting stuck to your rib cage. That happens to me sometimes.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 19 July 2004 13:05 (twenty-one years ago)

yes a bit. but it's more of a tightness. I've had it today a little bit too. URGH URGH! Lung membranes! URGH!

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 19 July 2004 13:14 (twenty-one years ago)

lung membranes¿ yikes¡
the last time i had random chest pain i had pulled a chest muscle coughing. i over reacted and went to the hospital. i did that only because the random chest pain i had a few months earlier was a lung collapsing.

dyson (dyson), Monday, 19 July 2004 13:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Get thee to a doctor so that you are still alive for Saturday!!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 19 July 2004 13:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I should just stop smoking, but last time I tried that I got a chest infection so that might not work. It could be simply down to the way I sit (hunched) and that could be crushing everything. Still it's unpleasant. I'm going to boycott caffeine drinks for a bit.

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 19 July 2004 13:19 (twenty-one years ago)

five years pass...

ugh, feels like there's some muscle spasming in my chest.

Face Book (dyao), Sunday, 23 May 2010 14:34 (fifteen years ago)

what did you do?

keine Macht für dich mehr! (Eisbaer), Sunday, 23 May 2010 14:35 (fifteen years ago)

nothing - I get this from time to time, pretty sure it's not heart disease. I mentioned it to my doctor the last time I saw her (oh, about two years ago) and she said not to worry.

Face Book (dyao), Sunday, 23 May 2010 14:37 (fifteen years ago)

then i guess that you shouldn't, then.

keine Macht für dich mehr! (Eisbaer), Sunday, 23 May 2010 14:39 (fifteen years ago)

it may be like a charlie horse in your chest, then.

keine Macht für dich mehr! (Eisbaer), Sunday, 23 May 2010 14:39 (fifteen years ago)

yeah I dunno, my pulse seems fine, the pain is intermittent, not persistent, etc.

unfortunately the best way to describe it I think is it feels like someone's trying to pass a marble through one of my arteries. but I've been eating pretty healthily for the past...6 months. haven't done much cardio, though.

Face Book (dyao), Sunday, 23 May 2010 14:50 (fifteen years ago)

i would see a doctor. maybe a different one.

akm, Sunday, 23 May 2010 15:06 (fifteen years ago)

I occasionally get a thing where my heart beats strongly and irregularly for a couple of minutes, accompanied by loss of breath and mild freaking out, with no clear cause. But apparently it's nothing. No fun, though.

i'll defer to gbx, dyao.

keine Macht für dich mehr! (Eisbaer), Sunday, 23 May 2010 15:34 (fifteen years ago)

i am also going to say "try another doctor". i had chest pain once with strange spasms, doc said it'd go away. saw a 2nd doctor two weeks later and he found out my lung had spontaneously collapsed.

i'm not saying that might be your situation, i'm just saying 2nd opinions can be REALLY helpful

hobbes, Sunday, 23 May 2010 23:57 (fifteen years ago)

good call. it's still here this morning, but I've figured out that it only really happens when I inhale deeply + puff my chest out - feels like something is being pushed against my chest wall. I'll see a doc today or tomorrow I guess

Face Book (dyao), Monday, 24 May 2010 00:44 (fifteen years ago)

that feeling is the exact one I had when I had a collapsed lung! Doctor sounds good.

Hippocrates or wat!! (Merdeyeux), Monday, 24 May 2010 00:48 (fifteen years ago)

demand a cxr or ct scan

hope this helps (Granny Dainger), Monday, 24 May 2010 00:51 (fifteen years ago)

hah okay. what can I expect if it is the case? my health insurance is not great atm.

Face Book (dyao), Monday, 24 May 2010 00:53 (fifteen years ago)

dunno but it's more likely pleurisy or muscle strain

hope this helps (Granny Dainger), Monday, 24 May 2010 01:01 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah my dad had what he srsly thought was a heart thing, and it tuerned out to be a pulled rib muscle.

demiurge overkill (Trayce), Monday, 24 May 2010 01:18 (fifteen years ago)

It may be a pulled muscle. I also occasionally get chest pain while breathing when I have acid reflux. I've had all sorts of tests done by two different doctors but nothing ever shows up abnormal; that it's just acid reflux.

I agree with the others that you should see a doctor just to be certain, but don't get too anxious.

musicfanatic, Monday, 24 May 2010 02:55 (fifteen years ago)

Oh, and I've been having this problem well over ten years, so if it's a heart attack then it's a rather mild one. :)

musicfanatic, Monday, 24 May 2010 02:56 (fifteen years ago)

it may be a pulled muscle. but it's worth checking out, dyao. also, this:

i would see a doctor. maybe a different one.

is essential advice.

Daniel, Esq., Monday, 24 May 2010 02:58 (fifteen years ago)

i would absoultely see another doctor. I had unexpected chest pains and 1st doctor thought it was just acid reflux stuff or muscular. Got pain again and seen a 2nd doctor and he sent me for ecg/ekg stuff and it turned out one of the ventricles in my heart worked v. strangely. I had to give up pot which was sad. I didn't die which was good.

toastmodernist, Monday, 24 May 2010 02:59 (fifteen years ago)

yeah I dunno - I'm not too sure about what my health coverage is in this country (I'm in hong kong), from what I've heard it's not very good. I guess I could wait to get this checked out when I head back to the states in a month, but then it'd be out of pocket as I'm uninsured.

Face Book (dyao), Monday, 24 May 2010 03:00 (fifteen years ago)

hong kong phooey
