Virus Question

I run on a pretty old computer...

I downloaded a Norton Anti-Virus trial thing tonight to try and get my PC checked as someone told me I sent a virus.

Anyway, I got told that to run Norton 2004 I need:

"Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.01 Service Pack 2 or higher"

So I'm thinking of buying this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00008KYV8/qid=1090198117/sr=1-22/ref=sr_1_2_22/026-3010923-9431622

Will this run on my PC?

I have Windows 98.

Thanks for any help

I used AVG for a good while. Pretty good (no problems) and free.

PC-Cillin seems good too - not sure if it has a demo version tho. But its virus checker and firewall's kept my PC clean for ages.

If you don't want to pay a lot.. perhaps a patient web search would turn up an older version of Norton Antivirus for download. Also, you might try going to your local thrift store and going through the old CD-ROMs they always have of free software that comes with PCs and never gets used. Maybe one of those would have an older version.

Wait a minute, Microsoft Internet Explorer + upgrades are free.. Why don't you try going to the Microsoft site and upgrading your browser?

Please get all availible patches from Microsoft and close your most gaping security holes.
