"Mr Bloom, perpetually pin-striped and with an office answering machine which barks "Halt! Who goes there?",..."

*wipes tears from eyes*

de, Wednesday, 21 July 2004 12:53 (twenty-one years ago)

can someone cut'n'paste - we're not allowed bright colours in my workplace.

dog latin (dog latin), Wednesday, 21 July 2004 13:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Blah blah, UKIP politician is total raving misogynist who wants to set womens' roles back about 150 years, blah blah blah, etc.

Ma$onic Boom (kate), Wednesday, 21 July 2004 13:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, what *was* that about the '8NP are racists' thing? I mean, hello? Also, their leader saying he hated Islam for meaning mean t owimmin--this is mainstream discourse in the papers and from government spokesmen and ministers. I don't get it.

Enrique (Enrique), Wednesday, 21 July 2004 13:40 (twenty-one years ago)

There was a big item on the BBC's Hull-based local news programme last night, trailing Godfrey Bloom round Strasbourg on his first day there. Oddly enough, his sexism wasn't mentioned; although he did say that for an anti-European to get paid to be an MEP was "using the Devil's money to do God's work", and then refused to go in a lift because it had graffitti.

("this is terrible! This can't be an MEP's lift - it must be for other people. Let's go and find another lift to use.")

caitlin (caitlin), Wednesday, 21 July 2004 14:34 (twenty-one years ago)

five months pass...
Killroy has struck out on his own, hopefully balkanising the right's vote even further. He's an evil looking bugger and should lay off the forehead botox.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 20 January 2005 19:26 (twenty-one years ago)

hilarious. apparently ukip got *3 million* votes in the european elections -- cos of this fucker, primarily. this country.

Miles Finch, Friday, 21 January 2005 10:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I hear he's thinking of calling his new party Veritas but I think we can all thing of better names than that: Hubris, Botox, to name but two

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 21 January 2005 10:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Vera.

Peter Stringbender (PJ Miller), Friday, 21 January 2005 10:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I bet the tories are made up with this.

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Friday, 21 January 2005 10:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Kilroy interviewed on Newsnight last night - WHAT A HAM!

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Friday, 21 January 2005 10:58 (twenty-one years ago)

... but not Parma ham, good British ham

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 21 January 2005 11:05 (twenty-one years ago)

i've never had Parma ham that was actually made in Parma

Stevem On X (blueski), Friday, 21 January 2005 11:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Kilroy would approve.

Miles Finch, Friday, 21 January 2005 11:09 (twenty-one years ago)

i've just changed my ansafone message to "halt! who goes there?"

ken c (ken c), Friday, 21 January 2005 11:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Why has he gone out on his own?

dog latin (dog latin), Friday, 21 January 2005 11:33 (twenty-one years ago)

he was too far right (and egotistical/megalomaniacal) even for UKIP

Stevem On X (blueski), Friday, 21 January 2005 11:34 (twenty-one years ago)

He's a fucking knob.

Thing is, he'd probably be all in yr face abt parma ham - this is REAL parma ham, from Parma bork bork bork, whilst at the same time being all "w*gs begin at calais". fuck him. Fuck him hard w/a bee-covered knobbly stick.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Friday, 21 January 2005 11:38 (twenty-one years ago)

God I hate the fucker so much.

some of my in-laws voted ukip. I couldn't believe it.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Friday, 21 January 2005 11:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeh, someone in my family is pro-UKIP and I really don't understand why. Reads the Mail too but claims it's just because you get a TV guide with it (which he rarely checks).

It's so disappointing because he doesn't ever seem to profess any of the values in that "paper" out loud so I don't understand why he reads it.

dog latin (dog latin), Friday, 21 January 2005 11:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Dontcha just hate these PR/Marketing inspired one word names for political parties/ oraganisations etc, you know, Veritas, Corus, Consignia, Respect (Self-Regard would have been a more appropriate name in Galloway's case) - what's wrong with straightforward, old-fashioned, names that explain exactly what an orgainsation does and stands for? The Union of British Fascists for instance.

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 21 January 2005 11:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I wonder if Veritas the data-storage consultancy will object?

Ed (dali), Friday, 21 January 2005 12:07 (twenty-one years ago)

"Freedom"

dog latin (dog latin), Friday, 21 January 2005 12:08 (twenty-one years ago)

"Wooo"

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Friday, 21 January 2005 12:26 (twenty-one years ago)

"Freemdoom"

ken c (ken c), Friday, 21 January 2005 12:28 (twenty-one years ago)

It's so disappointing because he doesn't ever seem to profess any of the values in that "paper" out loud so I don't understand why he reads it.

not professing the values out loud doesn't mean he doesn't believe in it!

ken c (ken c), Friday, 21 January 2005 12:32 (twenty-one years ago)

The man from UKIP on the radio this morning, whose name I remember not, called him Killjoy. How I chuckled.

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 21 January 2005 14:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I think that's unfair. If nothing else, Kilroy has added to the gaiety of nations.

Miles Finch, Friday, 21 January 2005 14:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I keep thinking of that Jam sketch about him. If he'd've done that he'd probably be even less of a joke.

Bernard the Butler (Lynskey), Friday, 21 January 2005 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Taking sides: Veritas vs Respect

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 21 January 2005 15:52 (twenty-one years ago)

In my head I keep getting it mixed up with Kensitas

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 21 January 2005 17:03 (twenty-one years ago)

See what I mean

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 21 January 2005 17:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Kensitas? Is that the Patsy Kensit party?

Michael White (Hereward), Friday, 21 January 2005 17:08 (twenty-one years ago)

KenCtas

Stevem On X (blueski), Friday, 21 January 2005 17:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Why has he gone out on his own?

Because the fucker enjoyed the publicity he got when he was elected as an MEP so now he wants to try his luck in getting elected as a 'proper' MP in the fortcoming election...

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Saturday, 22 January 2005 02:00 (twenty-one years ago)

For Americans: "Kilroy Silk" is a former chat-show host and "radical" conservative stick-in-the-mud who imagines that the EU will someday force Britain to grow straight bananas and paint their toenails all the colors of the many European flags. And he somehow - some way? - is seen to have the political legitimacy to head a party. Imagine if Richard Dawson ever got to air his views about things and you'll get it.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Saturday, 22 January 2005 07:38 (twenty-one years ago)

He *was* a legitimate politician in the mists of time - he started out as a politics lecturer, and was a Labour MP - admittedly, a right-wing-for-Labour MP who actively campaigned for a No in the "shall we stay in the EEC?" referendum of 1970-wibble. In the early 80s he left parliament because he decided that telly would be an easier way to get rich.

caitlin (caitlin), Saturday, 22 January 2005 15:24 (twenty-one years ago)

That's awful.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Saturday, 22 January 2005 17:35 (twenty-one years ago)

He's seen as having the political legitimacy to run a party that he himself has set up. He attempted to become the head of UKIP. He failed. Hard.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Saturday, 22 January 2005 17:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Veritas backwards is "Satire V".

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Saturday, 22 January 2005 18:30 (twenty-one years ago)

one year passes...
The UK Independence party today demanded an apology from David Cameron after he described them as "fruitcakes", "loonies" and "closet racists".

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 09:41 (nineteen years ago)

CLOSET FRUITS

Konal Doddz (blueski), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 09:50 (nineteen years ago)

I think an apology is in order as most Tories are also "fruitcakes", "loonies" and "closet racists".

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 09:51 (nineteen years ago)

camo in code mode.

Real Goths Don't Wear Black (Enrique), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 09:52 (nineteen years ago)

I think an apology is in order as most Tories are also "fruitcakes", "loonies" and "closet racists".

ah so it turns out Cameron was PRAISING/complimtenting UKIP? they've got the wrong end of the s(ch)tick.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 09:55 (nineteen years ago)

He was saying to UKIP supporters, "Our church is a broad church, come and join the "fruitcakes", "loonies" and "closet racists" in the modern Conservative Party."

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 09:57 (nineteen years ago)

ummm, surely he was saying, hey wavering times/observer readers, we're all reggae-liking multi-culturalists in this bitch, follow your hearts and we won't embarrass you (too much).

Real Goths Don't Wear Black (Enrique), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 09:59 (nineteen years ago)

good to see they're not discriminating against the mentally ill.

what is the difference between a fruitcake and a loony though? and when did these become politically correct terms for a party leader to use?

Konal Doddz (blueski), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 10:00 (nineteen years ago)

i'm fairly sure you can find labour ministers using equally 'robust' language somewhere.

Real Goths Don't Wear Black (Enrique), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 10:01 (nineteen years ago)

I think Cameron is going to have a much harder time "modernising" and dealing with the Daily Mail wing of the Tories than Labour ever did with Militant.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 10:02 (nineteen years ago)

That's if you actually believe he really intends modernising anything

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 10:04 (nineteen years ago)

it looks like they'll stay schtum as long as he brings in votes -- but this might be his 'bye-bye SA' night of the long knives moment; it could all go horribly wrong.

UKIP says it has "unanimously rejected" an offer from the British National Party for an electoral pact at next year's European elections.

It says ex-tennis star Buster Mottram, a UKIP member who claimed to represent the BNP, made the "astonishing offer" at a meeting in London on Monday.

Under the deal the BNP would fight seats in the north while UKIP would focus on the south in the elections.

The BNP said a deal made sense. UKIP says it would not work with the BNP.

BNP leader Nick Griffin told the BBC it made electoral sense for the two parties to avoid standing against each other at the euro elections in June 2009.

He said he had spoken to a number of UKIP party members about the deal.

The UK Independence Party, which campaigns for Britain to withdraw from the European Union, says Mr Mottram has since been expelled from the party.

Although he was a party member, he was not on the national executive committee which met in Whitehall on Monday.

But a spokesman said that as a high-profile, well known member, nobody had challenged him about why he was at the NEC meeting.

They say he claimed to represent Nick Griffin. The party says he refused to leave the meeting after the offer was rejected and they called the police, after which he left.

UKIP leader Nigel Farage said: "There are no circumstances, no possible situations, in which we would even consider doing any type of deal with the BNP whatsoever.

"I'm simply amazed that the BNP thought we would even consider such a thing, given that we are a non-racist, non-sectarian party."

Farage egged. Amusement dulled somewhat by the fact that this could be construed as further proof he's "arrived" as a mainstream politician.

A frenzied geologist (Tom D.), Thursday, 1 May 2014 14:58 (eleven years ago)

The last poll had UKIP as 11 points ahead of Labour, 20 points ahead of the Tories and 30 points ahead of the Lib Dems in the Euro elections.

It's quite remarkable given how unbelievably incompetent and weird everyone in the party aside from Farage appears to be.

Two people on my feed today confess to having voted UKIP even though they 'disagree with most of their policies' to 'send a message'. Yes, they both seem to hold exactly the same position. Quite hard to resist the urge to get into long and fruitless FB arguments (and others have taken up the slack tbf).

the joke should be over once the kid is eaten. (chap), Thursday, 22 May 2014 13:30 (eleven years ago)

One slight silver lining to their rise though is that people seem far more engaged in the European elections this time round than I can ever remember before. And for my two pro-UKIP 'friends' there are dozens railing against them.

the joke should be over once the kid is eaten. (chap), Thursday, 22 May 2014 13:34 (eleven years ago)

I found out that my younger brother and mother voted UKIP. Thankfully I have already fallen out with both of them. Fell out with mother at xmas because she kept a family gathering from me because she didn't want her grandchild with autism turning up and being a party pooper/embarrassment, despite us constantly delivering shopping and gifts whilst she was recovering from a cancer op. My brother is little fuckwit who I already fell out with over his simplistic wrong-minded views on everything from climate change to him declaring Stuart Hall innocent, just because he brown-nosed around him for an hour at the JS stadium a couple of years ago. He is sorry little shit who walks about about stoned with a tea cosy on his head and he is seriously short of a good shoeing.

Me and my older bro who works in Dubai and has a foreign wife are both sickened. We grew on a shithole estate and the mix was a lot of Caribbean, Polish, Ukrainian, Indian Sihks and Irish. My younger bro (15 year gap) grew up on one of these 70's phase, insubstantial lower middle class but white Barratt House estates. My mother is a hypocritical 1st gen immigrant to this country and has no right to vote for these cunts. I don't really have anything left now beyond my immediate family. I wouldn't be surprised if my dad voted them as well, haven't spoken to him in 20 years but he was a hypocritical racist immigrant, working class Thatcher voter and a Telegraph reader to boot.

Sorry for rambling, but I am genuinely ashamed of my family right now. Some irreversible switch has just clicked and I don't gaf if they live or die anymore, they literally make me feel physically ill.
