Okay, so yesterday somebody used "

Gregory Henry (Gregory Henry), Wednesday, 21 July 2004 15:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Um, wtf?

Gregory Henry (Gregory Henry), Wednesday, 21 July 2004 15:30 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, that should read:

So yesterday somebody used "<4" on their livejournal. Y'know, like "<3", but /more so/.

I mean, how great is that?

Gregory Henry (Gregory Henry), Wednesday, 21 July 2004 15:33 (twenty-one years ago)

(didn't angle brackets use to work without unicode? blah)

Gregory Henry (Gregory Henry), Wednesday, 21 July 2004 15:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I will rise to the foamy peak of the statscock by monopolizing this thread! Um, yeah.

(I genuinely do think that the fact that eg "oh the ironing" doesn't work except in writing is kinda interesting)

Gregory Henry (Gregory Henry), Wednesday, 21 July 2004 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

But I think "The ironing is delicious" was a Simpsons reference...

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Wednesday, 21 July 2004 17:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Mmmmm, hypertext....

Huk-El (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 21 July 2004 17:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Really? Wow, I had no idea. Surely it works much less well, 'cos one says "eye-ronn-ee" but "eye-orn-ing"? Or is this not true in the states?

Gregory Henry (Gregory Henry), Wednesday, 21 July 2004 18:00 (twenty-one years ago)

ire - ning.

> cos one says "eye-ronn-ee" but "eye-orn-ing"

not Stephen King. he (and probably others) doesn't pronounce the R in irony. 'eye-un-ee'. i think it's an american thing.

this, of course, reminds of that documentary about the drum and bassist (Bukem?) and his manager in Japan trying to find out, using short words spoken slowly and loudly and with accompanying actions, if the hotel had an 'eye-ron' so he could do some 'eye-ron-ing'.

koogs (koogs), Thursday, 22 July 2004 07:32 (twenty-one years ago)

'Ir-On-Ing' is a (great!) track by Blu Mar Ten on the Earth 3 compilation, 'taking DYS to new levels', as MC Conrad probably uttered at Logical Progression a few times
