good news if it happens

In one of those bizarre coincidences that probably aren't that bizarre, I only just finished reading this last night and the first thing I thought was "that would make a great film."

I do remember "Chronicle of a Death Foretold" being very ropey though.

I only just finished reading this too, and loved it. Personally I think they should do 100 Years of Solitude instead - or as well. That would make a big and beautiful film - it's certainly not unfilmable.

It would need to be, like, a seven hour De Sica flick. Amazing, and can't you perfectly imagine John Leguizamo as Jose Arcadio Segundo?

Eleanor Bron IS Úrsula.

Benicio del Toro IS José Arcadio Buendía.

Bruce Forsythe IS Melquíades.

¡brillante!

NO to Leguizamo. He'd just find some way to ham his way around Macondo. If they do this, it better not be as some amber-lensed Like Water For Chocolate -y thing.

Leguizamo needs to be one of the obnoxious sons. Or all 17 Aurelianos, a la Alec Guinness in Kind Hearts and Coronets. And yeah, there's definately the (very real) danger that this will end up being Oprahed to death.

No way this should be a film. This should be a television series.

co-directed by Lynch and Almodovar on HBO? I'll start on the pilot, stat.
