JaXoN (JasonD), Thursday, 22 July 2004 18:16 (twenty-one years ago)

amateur!st (amateurist), Thursday, 22 July 2004 18:20 (twenty-one years ago)

josh hartnett always looks like he's waiting for direction.

amateur!st (amateurist), Thursday, 22 July 2004 18:21 (twenty-one years ago)

amateur!st (amateurist), Thursday, 22 July 2004 18:22 (twenty-one years ago)

my ex gf has sold him like 4 pair of glasses. according to her, amst is otm, even in that transaction.

g--ff (gcannon), Thursday, 22 July 2004 18:23 (twenty-one years ago)

why does he keep losing his glasses?

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 22 July 2004 18:26 (twenty-one years ago)

he has this enourmous harry carey safety pair for going 'incognito.' minneapolitans, watch out.

g--ff (gcannon), Thursday, 22 July 2004 18:27 (twenty-one years ago)

For a while I pretended I was moving because of this movie. I mean, Matthew Lillard was wandering around my neighborhood, it was a bit much. Thankfully, the movie doesn't seem to be trying to have anything at all to do with Wicker Park -- apart from using some weird shot of the park itself as a totemic location. Some weird shot of the park with statues and without homeless people: it's totally unrecognizable to me.

nabiscothingy, Thursday, 22 July 2004 18:48 (twenty-one years ago)

that's because they would have had to pay the homeless scale

amateur!st (amateurist), Thursday, 22 July 2004 18:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I would rather see the trend continue with Humboldt Park (George Lopez) and Rogers Park (a Jason Schwartzmann / Mekhi Phifer buddy picture).

nabiscothingy, Thursday, 22 July 2004 18:50 (twenty-one years ago)

"ratso here says he grunts a line and is elgible for SAG benefits. also, walleyes jackson is complaining about the caterer being controlled by the chinese."

amateur!st (amateurist), Thursday, 22 July 2004 18:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Also Lincoln Park (Reese Witherspoon, Mira Sorvino), Buena Park (Glenn Close, Ben Kingsley), and North Halsted (Tom Cruise, Clay Aiken).

nabiscothingy, Thursday, 22 July 2004 18:52 (twenty-one years ago)

(We are doing interweaving comedy!)

nabiscothingy, Thursday, 22 July 2004 18:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Jackson Park would be good, or did Barbershop already cover that?

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 22 July 2004 18:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Grant Park - Hugh Grant and Meg Ryan find love as a British reporter and a hippychick in the midst of the '68 Democratic National Convention. Special Guest Stars: At the Drive-In playing the MC5.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 22 July 2004 18:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Nabisco, those are all genius.

I'm hoping there's a scene in Wicker Park where Josh Hartnett is at Myopic, in a narrow space between two bookshelves, looking through a book by himself, really concentrating -- and then he hears a voice! "Hi!" And it's the crazy girl standing right behind him! Oh no!

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 22 July 2004 18:55 (twenty-one years ago)

mine are just lame, I see how it is.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 22 July 2004 18:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Chan Ho Park: A Redemption Story, starring, I dunno, Jackie Chan and Margaret Cho or something.

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Thursday, 22 July 2004 18:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Hyde Park: young student Jena Malone embarks on torrid affair with professor Ben Stein. Dakota Fanning stars as wise-beyond-her-years lab school student. With Doug E. Doug as the Metra-platform robber (the poor guy only gets crack-addict roles anymore, it's horrible).

nabiscothingy, Thursday, 22 July 2004 18:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Begs2Differ, keeping in line with Chicago geography, that should be PING TOM MEMORIAL PARK.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 22 July 2004 18:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Albany Park (Margaret Cho, Steve Park)

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 22 July 2004 18:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Skokie (George C. Sc--wait a minute)

(I'm surprised Nabisco didn't cast himself in Hyde Park)

amateur!st (amateurist), Thursday, 22 July 2004 18:58 (twenty-one years ago)

mckarren park:

natasha lyonne and jason schwarzmann become bike messengers and save williamsburg from terrorists

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 22 July 2004 18:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Morgan Park - where?!??1

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 22 July 2004 18:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Portage Park (Tom Arnold as a retired construction worker getting fat off a city ghost payroll; Chloe Sevigny as the LaSalle Bank teller who grows to love him)

amateur!st (amateurist), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:00 (twenty-one years ago)

mckarren park:

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:00 (twenty-one years ago)

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:01 (twenty-one years ago)

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:01 (twenty-one years ago)

"Andersonville (Ellen DeGeneres, Kathy Bates) "

plus happy sidekick Tony Shalhoub

amateur!st (amateurist), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Heh.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:03 (twenty-one years ago)

no place for them in hollywood, sorry

or in the NEU-WILLIAMSBURG.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Pulaski Park - a 2002 release starring Dan Rostenkowski, elotes vendors, the homeless, hookers, Chester my landlord and me.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:06 (twenty-one years ago)

But so like will anyone actually see Wicker Park? They shot enough stuff around the neighborhood that I feel like I'd almost go see it, just to scope out the locations and giggle and all that -- but then movies shot in Chicago tend to be done there in a generic disguised-location "it was cheaper here" way, so it might even be unsatisfying for that. (Mid-80s comedies are the only films I can think of that really feature Chicago as a location -- mid-80s comedies, John Hughes films, and My Best Friend's Wedding maybe, and it's always in a Loopy kind of way that's not particularly satisfying.)

nabiscothingy, Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I am taking High Fidelity as understood, obviously.

nabiscothingy, Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:08 (twenty-one years ago)

i wish someone would do with chicago what before sunset did with paris, but then chicago is not really a "walking city" like paris is.

amateur!st (amateurist), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:09 (twenty-one years ago)

i love the shot with ian williams in the record store

xpost

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:09 (twenty-one years ago)

i guess thief had some nice chicago location shots in it, including one where the green mill is blown up.

amateur!st (amateurist), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:10 (twenty-one years ago)

It could take place on the 30-minute el ride out to O'Hare. If you add a change-over at Clark + Lake, it could be like an hour.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:12 (twenty-one years ago)

We need to develop our own Odyssey-patterned Chicago film. A man's car dies in Evanston, and he needs to get to his South Side home before evening, because it's his wife's birthday. The Red Line has been disabled by squirrels, and he doesn't have enough money for a cab. Imagine his quest!

nabiscothingy, Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:13 (twenty-one years ago)

at least the train in Chicago goes to the airports.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:13 (twenty-one years ago)

nabisco are you positing a Chicago-style Warriors?

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:14 (twenty-one years ago)

hell cab?

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:15 (twenty-one years ago)

or chicago cab as it is known in some circles?

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:16 (twenty-one years ago)

D.C. Cab?!?!?????

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Honestly, I'll probably see this on video for the thrill of actually recognizing places that I pass regularly in a movie. Yes, I am a dork, but no one ever makes movies in Richmond or Colonial Williamsburg or suburban Maryland.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:18 (twenty-one years ago)

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:18 (twenty-one years ago)

take the 151 bus down sheridan to michigan ave and pick up the # 3 bus to the south side. it has all the makings of a horror flick.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:18 (twenty-one years ago)

NA: You can already do a little of that with High Fidelity, especially whenever anyway steps outside of the Honore-and-Milwaukee store location.

The Lotus-Eaters = Howard Street drug purchase
Cyclops = Rogers Park mugging
Aeolus = Falafel in Andersonville
Circe = angry lesbians
The Sirens = not-angry lesbians
Scylla & Charybdis = Cubs fans everywhere
Calypso = horny Trixies

nabiscothingy, Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:22 (twenty-one years ago)

High Fidelity is the worst.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:25 (twenty-one years ago)

i was in chicago not too long ago, visiting a friend who lives on division. i should have said something here.

g--ff (gcannon), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:31 (twenty-one years ago)

High Fidelity is the worst.
-- hstencil (hstenc!...) (webmail), July 22nd, 2004 1:25 PM. (hstencil) (later) (link)

the worst what? it's a decent movie.

amateur!st (amateurist), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:33 (twenty-one years ago)

We've done that argument, I think.

nabiscothingy, Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:34 (twenty-one years ago)

i think so too

amateur!st (amateurist), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:35 (twenty-one years ago)

it's a horrible movie and horrible document of Chicago locations (though I did party in the apartment used as Tim Robbins's apartment once).

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:36 (twenty-one years ago)

i think that storefront used as cusack's record store is still empty. can NA confirm this?

amateur!st (amateurist), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Yup.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I know because I masturbate in the doorway of that building every day.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:42 (twenty-one years ago)

So I hope it's abandoned.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:43 (twenty-one years ago)

you really need some hobbies.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:46 (twenty-one years ago)

public masturbation is a venerable hobby!

amateur!st (amateurist), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Just ask Onan!

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha ha Onan the Barbarian.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I think there's something wrong with me.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:52 (twenty-one years ago)

This is what happens when I skip breakfast.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:52 (twenty-one years ago)

typo up there. i meant to write, "public masturbation is a venereal hobby!"

amateur!st (amateurist), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:57 (twenty-one years ago)

hstencil: Did you party in Tim Robbins's apartment when a woman named Ingrid lived there?

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 22 July 2004 20:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I liked High Fidelity, btw.

And I am tempted to see Wicker Park for the spot-the-Chicago-locale factor, too.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 22 July 2004 20:51 (twenty-one years ago)

hstencil: Did you party in Tim Robbins's apartment when a woman named Ingrid lived there?

is this going to wind up with the revelation that hstencil sired jaymc's stepbrother?

amateur!st (amateurist), Thursday, 22 July 2004 20:52 (twenty-one years ago)

jaymc - I have no idea who lived there. It was a gigantic three-apartment party.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 22 July 2004 20:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I like High Fidelity less every time I see it. Started up pretty high, but last time I saw it, Cusack annoyed the shit out of me.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Thursday, 22 July 2004 20:53 (twenty-one years ago)

(xpost) Let's hope!

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 22 July 2004 20:54 (twenty-one years ago)

you people disgust me.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 22 July 2004 20:55 (twenty-one years ago)

hstencil (hstencil), Sunday, 23 January 2005 07:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Hella Fitzgerald (JasonD), Sunday, 23 January 2005 07:48 (twenty-one years ago)

what's she scared for, you guys moved away!

hstencil (hstencil), Sunday, 23 January 2005 07:51 (twenty-one years ago)

three years pass...

Darn, I just saw this film and there's a whole thread about it after all!

the pinefox, Monday, 12 January 2009 22:06 (seventeen years ago)

Upthread I'm all like:

For a while I pretended I was moving because of this movie.

But now in NYC I have run into Hartnett twice, and one of those times he and his friend kept stealing my freaking beer

nabisco, Monday, 12 January 2009 22:11 (seventeen years ago)

no escape from this blend of 70% sub-Keanu Reeves and 30% sub-Matt Dillon

nabisco, Monday, 12 January 2009 22:12 (seventeen years ago)

I would rather see the trend continue with Humboldt Park (George Lopez)

This one got made x2:
