Every morning the office park smells like Rogaine does. What could this be?!?!?!

toupee glue? toner? residual denture cleaner? plastique?

Toner is more acrid and "heavy" smelling.

Certainly not glue although it does bear a resemblance to some superglues.

does rogaine have a really acrid, ethanol-y odor? I seem to associate it with cleaning products, and if the office park has an overnight janitorial staff it's possible they're the culprits.

does Ethanol smell like running alcohol (isopropyl)

if so, not particularly.

I perceive smells as sound and this smell is like like a really thin tone at probably 3600-4500hz.

Isopropyl is around 3000 3200 hz

Are you losing your hair, Jon?

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 26 July 2004 12:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I was actually for a while, but its thickened up a lot (I have very fine hair to begin with) since I stopped being vegetarian and beat my drug addiction.

I don't even have vegetarianism or drug addiction to give up :(

you guys don't care about my synasthasia :(

George W. ILX (ex machina), Monday, 26 July 2004 12:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I've got it really (badly / well) too ... in the latest Smithsonian magazine there's a big article on supertasters, and I'm one of them. My nose is incredibly finely attuned and I'm often reminded of literal scenes in which each element of a smell/taste is imaged as a singlular, seperate and discrete smell-giving component. Cheap wine might remind me of a stable, the overtones of shitty grapes might inspire a moldy saddle, and the foam cork residue could suggest, incongrously, a menstrual representative, e.g. a tampon in the middle of the floor.

I wish it was easier to quantify smell.

There's a fantastic calvin and hobbes on that point. I remember being about 14 and trying to use that strip's smell-vocabulary in front of my parents, "Mom, that pasta smells awful snorky," before getting in trouble and chased from the kitchen.

IT'S BACK AND STRONGER. Maybe it is worse on smoggy days?

If you're near Lake Ontario or a slow moving tributary its probably Algæ.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 11:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm in Rhode Island right now actually -- it doesn't smell like algae (or the Kodak plant especially)
