Eating is Cheating

a colleague said this about a forthcoming evening on the BOUZE, the implication being that if you didn't eat anything before setting out, then you got drunk quicker and this was a Good Thing.

I'm sorry but I don't identify with this at all! As far as I'm concerned I'm more likely to ensure that I've eaten before going out if I know I'm going to drink loads, or I'll drink a pint or more of water.

So, am I just old and boring? Do you identify with my colleague or me?

You.

You get drunk quicker and cheaper, but you also feel worse.

Oh my god, not eating when you drink is wrongness on every level. It's just asking for trouble. I would have had to stop drinking forever (due to hangovers and sickness) if I hadn't learned to eat before and during drinking. And crisps do not count, no.

scratchings do though.

I regularly drink without eating, particularly at FAPs, this is more of a time constraint thing

Getting drunk quickly versus having more stuff in your stomach when you puke? I'm with your colleague if it's a drink-to-get-drunk night, but on your side if it's a cocktail party.

But the hangover is worse if you don't eat, plus you're more likely to pass out at an early hour and miss all the fun.

I thought this was going to be an oral sex thread.

(allegedly, the current governor of California was once asked what he thought of Bill Clinton, and replied with "Eating isn't cheating")

exactly, tuomas. while you do get much more smashed much more quickly without food, it's not fun to go home before midnight and then hear about all of the great late-night fun that you missed. plus, hangovers after drinking on an empty stomach are kind of like death without actually passing through to the other side. bleah.

No, no, the story (probably apocryphal) is that Schwarzenegger was caught, during the filming of one of his movies, in one of his co-stars' trailers, giving her oral sex. He supposedly looked up at the person who caught him, anticipating the inevitable accusation, and said, "Eating isn't cheating."
