The Norma Khouri 'Forbidden Love' controversy

This is pretty interesting -- Khouri's book, based on my reading some key chapters in the library copy, was a striking and sorrowful tale of a friend in Jordan slain by her family in an honor killing over the friend's dating a Christian man. Apparently it was a big bestseller in Australia in particular, where Khouri now lives.

However, the Sydney Morning Herald has published some stories saying it was all a hoax, and the book is at least being temporarily withdrawn:

The most recent SMH story up interviews a friend of hers from Chicago:

Intriguing. The I, Rigoberta Menchu controversy of this decade?

one month passes...
I'm suprised no one took up on this thread. Maybe it was only news in Aus? Anyway. Khoury disappeared for a while, with the media finding all this damaging stuff about her and her publisher saying they were going to drop her if she didnt show (she had a 2nd book on the way out)...

Now she's showed up and admitted some of the accustations and the second books been dropped. Weird.
