you know, instead of linking like this

http://ilx.wh3rd.net/askaquestion.php?board=1

some of you guys know how to transfer the link into a sentence, so it comes across like this:

Hey, check out this hipster wiseass discussion board I just discovered on the net

- and you just click on the text, and whoop's you're there. or here.

how does one do that???

<a href=http://www.yourlinkhere.com>the text you'd like to assign to the link</a>

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 26 July 2004 21:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Except that it should be a href="yourlink", with the "s.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 26 July 2004 21:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Whoa! And whatever you do, don't click on http://www.yourlinkhere.com, even out of curiosity.

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Monday, 26 July 2004 21:41 (twenty-one years ago)

tuomas,

not true, href does not require quotes.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 26 July 2004 21:45 (twenty-one years ago)

All those wasted years of typing quotation marks! I never knew.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 26 July 2004 21:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Neither did I.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 26 July 2004 21:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I want my time back and transferred into a weekend in Rhyl.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 26 July 2004 21:48 (twenty-one years ago)

however, img src tags do!

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 26 July 2004 21:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, it's all so confusing.

btw. if you're pasting a link to another ILX thread you don't need any of this at all - just paste the url and and the magic ILX faeries will turn it into a proper link with the thread title.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 26 July 2004 21:50 (twenty-one years ago)

You're kidding me. Don't click this link.

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Monday, 26 July 2004 21:51 (twenty-one years ago)

A pedant writes: your browser will probably accept href without quotes, but it's definitely not legal in recent HTML. Certainly, XHTML 1 or later require quotes around all attribute values, including href.

(because it's defined in terms of XML, which also requires it)

caitlin (caitlin), Monday, 26 July 2004 21:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay, stop it you brainies!

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 26 July 2004 21:56 (twenty-one years ago)

koogs (koogs), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 09:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I wondered how to do this myself.

Maria D. (Maria D.), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 15:43 (twenty-one years ago)

EARLY ADOPTERS,

how long until HTML is no longer accepted? i say never!!!

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 15:52 (twenty-one years ago)

OTM. Valid HTML 4.1 is not only a web standard, it is in some ways leaner than XTHML. I'm about to start re-coding an entire website so that it validates, and NO WAY I'm going to try to use XHTML. That would be insanity, actually. You pretty much have to hand code it for it to work. My own website is XHTML 1.0 strict, but that's really just me showing off.

Whiskeytown Littlecock (ex machina), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 15:56 (twenty-one years ago)

> You pretty much have to hand code it for it to work.

just stop using frontpage 8)

koogs (koogs), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 16:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha. I wish it was that simple. Dreamweaver MX will fuck up XHTML just as bad.

Major McTwitch (kenan), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 16:01 (twenty-one years ago)

How do we post pictures now?

R.I.M.A. (Barima), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

put an "i" before the "httpurl" junk

Whiskeytown Littlecock (ex machina), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 16:14 (twenty-one years ago)

It hasn't always worked for some and there were enuff posts asking about it from people who could do it on old-ILX, so I hadda ask.

R.I.M.A. (Barima), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 20:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Apparently there's a resolution and file-size limit to postable pictures.

The Dreaded Rear Admiral (Leee), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 20:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Kenan,

But I bought this BetaMax for $2000!!!
