I love soviet-era aerospace tech. It looks kind of ultra-utilitarian & sinister. the "Ekranoplan" ground-effect vehicle is where they excelled themselves:

more here. Apparently there was a REALLY enormous ekranoplan that remained unfinished at the time of the collapse of the soviet union. They should build it!!

mmmm ekranoplan, my previous placement student and I spent a week working out whether we could build one on the roof once. obv it wouldn't be able to go very far
