I LOVE planes! I recently seen a picture of a Boeing SuperGuppy and almost wet my panties. Boy that's one heck of a plane. I'm also fond of 747's but I'm not really into fighters.

Please, indulge me fellow plane geeks.

Wow! That's a bit close!

i love the Southwest livery. i guess the service itself is average.

those pics jon linked to can't be entirely real!

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 16:11 (twenty-one years ago)

those shots from Kai Tak are awesome. Landing there was probably the closest I've ever felt to white-knuckling, and it was totally routine.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 16:11 (twenty-one years ago)

the Kai Tak ones are totally real, it was one of the most (if not the most) difficult approaches on earth.

i want one of the lovely teal aer lingus uniforms.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

yeh the Netherlands Antilles ones are a little dubious tho - the scale of people to plane seems kinda off i don't know...

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I landed at Kai Tak too, right before they closed it. It was intense.

good lord. and i thought the approach to san diego was bad!

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 16:14 (twenty-one years ago)

SONIC BOOM!

Beautiful! Bring back concorde.

Rumpy Pumpkin (rumpypumpkin), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 16:17 (twenty-one years ago)

not airliner related - one time when I was backpacking in New Mexico, on this saddle ridge between two mountains, this pair of F-16s flew over at about 200 feet above the ridge. That was intense.

I'm bummed that I never got to ride the Concorde but I did get to see one on its approach to JFK last summer at Brighton Beach.

We get balloons hitting our chimneys and trees a lot.

Also: I was standing on a high rise overlooking the ocean one day when a single seat plane, painted in Red Baron fashion (Iron Crosses and all) flew up from *below* the rise I stood on with its wings nearly perpendicular to the ground. Amazing.

Whiskeytown Littlecock (ex machina), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 16:20 (twenty-one years ago)

We've been buzzed by fighters before driving past Glencoe - one pilot was suspended for flying his plane underneath a road bridge in Ballachulish nearby.

i generally hate flying, but a short flight from honolulu to hilo was astonishing. (looking out the window, that is. the flight itself was ok. the waitresses gave us watered-down guava juice.)

amateur!st (amateurist), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope you mean stewardesses.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

"flight attendants," dude.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

actually, former members of the new wave band the waitresses now work for hawaii air.
