I love the warm summer rain, when you can just go outside and run through the empty streets and jump on puddles and roll on the grass, and in general act like a child.
I love the cool autumn rain, when you can stay inside and watch the raindrops fall on trees that are yellow and red and brown, when you can drink something hot and you have the perfect right to be melancholic and contemplative.
And I love the spring rain, when the water forms little streams and earthworms rise on the surface, and afterwards the grass smells nice and the air feels fresh.

What I really dislike is warm sun right after a good rainstorm, esp. in the summer, so that all the lawns and roads start to steam and the air is chokingly humid. blech.
If I'd discovered twee music in high school, I would have been so damn twee, listening to The Sundays while looking at the rain, but instead I listened to shoegazer bands, Portishead and Joni Mitchell, which is pretty good in retrospect.

I do like really really heavy rain though, when it comes down in sheets and the drains can't cope and everyone gapes from their windows. Mostly we just get regular rain though, with occasional drizzle and the odd shower. Interspersed with smir.
Smir, is anyone outside my family familiar with that word?

ha yes, i sometimes feel i have "reverse" seasonal affective disorder. not a huge fan of the cold, however.

my position's always been that cold's preferable to heat cuz you can always put on another layer but the reverse isn't true -- but this is just bias because i have extensive experience with steaming jungles and none with, like, minnesota, where i'm sure there wouldn't be enough layers in the world for me
― le Histoire du Edgy Miley (difficult listening hour), Saturday, 21 May 2016 20:34 (nine years ago)
i can kind of get into intense dry heat, it makes me feel alive and present and more connected with the cosmos or something.

Cold+rainy no, likewise having to sit at work in wet clothing. Otherwise love it, especially in the warm summer while pleasantly buzzed.

― Ste, Monday, 6 November 2017 21:34 (eight years ago)
I really love getting soaked on the way to work and then sitting for a whole morning with trousers that are absolutely wringing/heavy and chafing. It's a rare delight. I also love standing at a bus stop that doesn't have a shelter in the rain for half an hour in Glasgow in December and subsequently having a bout of asthma that keeps me up half the night. Also I love being splashed by cars that have driven through a large puddle that was caused by rain, staining my newly dry-cleaned trousers.
Fuck is wrong with you people?

I've converted this to an mp3 and play this when I've trouble sleeping. There's something intensely soporific and comforting about the sound of rain on a car roof.

I loved the rain yesterday because some jackass had had themselves a great time recreationally spraying a fire extinguisher all over the sidewalk in front of the building, leaving behind drifts of dubious yellow powder, and the rain washed it away.
