The End of the 12 oz Soda Can?

Is there some concerted conspiracy to kill of the 12 oz aluminum soda can and replace it with the more expensive 20 oz plastic bottle? I'm thoroughly satiated after 12 oz - I don't want more. And I don't like plastic bottles.

I think 64 oz Big Gulps or whatever are insane, I could never drink that much pop.

Also - potato chip bags seem to vary extensively in price and bag size, but the net weight is remarkably consistent - about 13/4 to 2 oz net wt.

My favorite format for Coke is the 6-oz glass bottles. That's just about as much Coke as I can drink before it gets warm. I wish these were easier to find!

what about those Pepsi mini cans? how fucking stupid is that?

Huck, Wednesday, 28 July 2004 20:29 (twenty-one years ago)

There are mini glass bottles too, but I've only ever seen them at hotels (like at conventions and stuff). They are short and fat.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 20:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't wait until we can just download soda pop from the internet into whatever irregularly sized container we want. I'll go for 10.5 oz.

Huck, Wednesday, 28 July 2004 20:33 (twenty-one years ago)

mini cans are good for roadtrips

kephm, Wednesday, 28 July 2004 20:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I fucking hate those 20oz plastic monsters. Soda in anything other than an aluminum can does not get cold enough. 2 litres are fine if I'm at home and have ice.

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 20:50 (twenty-one years ago)

haha sometimes my wrath over the most petty things amuses me.

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 20:51 (twenty-one years ago)

measuring liquids in ounces sounds like mentalism to me. Litres or pints, people!

(p.s. does that case say "blanc de blancs"? shouldn't it be "blanc des blancs"?)

amateur!st (amateurist), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 20:53 (twenty-one years ago)

for some reason as a kid when i would see "12 fl oz" i'd always think it stood for "12 floral ounces" I HAVE NO IDEA WHY

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 20:54 (twenty-one years ago)

This may be a stupid thing to say, but keep in mind that they're "fluid ounces," and drink-wise they're still a lot easier than saying, I dunno, "this one is 1.24 pints, this one is 1.46 pints," or whatever. Things have to be a little bigger to go by pint divisions, no?

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 20:54 (twenty-one years ago)

that was an x-post

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 20:54 (twenty-one years ago)

what about the old squat cans? I loved those.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 20:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I went to Taco Bell awhile ago and got one of those package deals.... and all they would give me was like this fucking forty ouncer of diet coke. I just wanted one of those small, wax paper drinks but I was (against my will) given a giant, non-biodegradable or recyclable plastic cup with fucking Shrek on the side.

Ain't America great? (sighs blissfully.) Soon the whole world will be great too.

andy, Wednesday, 28 July 2004 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 21:06 (twenty-one years ago)

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 21:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I am drinking from a 20oz right now and I wish it was a BIG GULP.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 21:07 (twenty-one years ago)

i hate that when people act like "omg we are getting bigger AND BIGGER SODAS EVERYDAY!!!!" like its a sign that the world is coming to a fucking end.

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 21:09 (twenty-one years ago)

coke from a plastic bottle is rank.

I could drink like 8 forties of malt before 9am, yo, but I can barely get down a pint of soda.

andy, Wednesday, 28 July 2004 21:09 (twenty-one years ago)

If this 20 oz. of Pepsi I've got was any colder it would be ice. y'all goofy in the noggin.

Too much soda makes you feel... free.

andy, Wednesday, 28 July 2004 21:18 (twenty-one years ago)

my eyes.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 21:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Cause soda isn't good for you and having bigger and bigger container sizes of soda is therefore not a good thing either.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 21:24 (twenty-one years ago)

thank you, grandmother.

pass the big gulp, please.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 21:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 21:30 (twenty-one years ago)

It's all been downhill since they stopped bottling soft drinks in the 300 ml and 750 ml glass bottles. Man, both Coke and Pepsi tasted fantastic out of one of those, but the minute they put them into plastic bottles they started tasting like harsh, fizzy diluted corn syrup. Don't even get me started on why aluminum cans deserve to be destroyed.

There's a place just up the street from here that's got the smaller glass bottles again. They too small but they're tasty.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 21:31 (twenty-one years ago)

do you prefer old timey bicycles too?

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 21:32 (twenty-one years ago)

don't get Grampa Sean started on the horseless carriage.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 21:33 (twenty-one years ago)

In college there was this one gas station that still sold Pepsi bottles. I don't know where they hell they got them from. I was one of the few people who had a car and therefore one of the few who could pick up said Pepsi bottles. I think I earned drinking money each week by hawking Pepsi to everyone in the dorms.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 21:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I say bring back the 16 oz. glass bottles with the styrofoam labels around it. Plastic bottles suck when it comes to shooting things with a bb gun.

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 21:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I chugged straight from the 2-liter back in school, dawg. Now I'm all classy and have this mug I use.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 21:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh god the 2-liter bottle. I think that's one of the things that put me off of drinking soda.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 21:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I think they still sell soda in regular 16oz glass bottles in Mexico, which is why you can sometimes find it in california and the southwest.

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 21:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I also remember the days when CeCe Peniston was a cool female musician instead of a college boy who's cruisin' for a beating!

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 21:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I was thinking that maybe that gas station got the bottles from Mexico, but I went to school in IL so you wouldn't think someone there had any business connects with Mexico. They even gave me cash back when I returned the empty bottles!

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 21:44 (twenty-one years ago)

" think they still sell soda in regular 16oz glass bottles in Mexico, which is why you can sometimes find it in california and the southwest. .."

I buy the tamarind jaritos... what happened to that in America? Sturdy, thick reuseable bottles! The old soda bottle machines always had reused bottles. I think there's some Great Lakes area beers that still use reusable bottles (Huber, et al) but only the Mexican have the sense to keep that going. It was a good source of income for me as a child, and as a broke, drunk Gringo adult in San Blas as well.

andy, Wednesday, 28 July 2004 21:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Ooooh, what I'd give for a 16 oz. glass bottle of ManzaƱa right about now.

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 21:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I chug coke from two litres, but my love of cans is great due to abt. 90% of pizza restaurants in NYC offering a 2 slices+can of soda special.
