First show was a mixed bag, but I'm going to give it a few more episodes. Borrows pretty heavily from Sopranos and SFU, but none the worse for it.

I don't mind Leary, but I guess a lot of people hate him.

I think the hate comes from WAY TOO MANY smug MTV spots, I can't even deal with more than a few moments of him (although I will admit that his style started a mini-revolution in commercial advertising).

I was hoping this was a Rescue 911 type docu-show about the glory of firefighters that he hosts.

i'll always like d leary for the station id spot he did for the independent film channel:

"hi, i'm willem defoe, you're watching ifc"

g--ff (gcannon), Thursday, 29 July 2004 17:14 (twenty-one years ago)

haha that's great!

i really enjoyed 'the job' - easily my fave abc show of the past ten years (unless i'm forgetting something)

cinniblount (James Blount), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:41 (twenty-one years ago)

What is it?

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:41 (twenty-one years ago)

it was a cop show he did with radio raheem, sort of an updated barney miller (haha, actually it was closer to brandon tartikoff's vision for 'hill st. blues' - 'barney miller. outdoors.' - than 'hill st. blues' was)(i'm a bit of a sucker for a cop show). the mighty mighty foine karyn parsons was on it also. steadicam (maybe?) style sitcom ala arrested development or curb your enthusiasm (well, slicker than cye, i guess just arrested development).

cinniblount (James Blount), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:46 (twenty-one years ago)

it's it!

actually, my fave Leary bit was his appearance on the "MTV Top 20 Lamest Vids" 5 years ago, with Jon stewart, janeane garofalo, and that cokehead monkeyboy from SNL(NOT jimmy fallon)

xp

I still haven't seen this all the way through. Somewhat mystified as to whether my friend who worked on "The Job" (which I agree was great) is working on this. BTW I don't know if there's ever plans for a DVD set of "The Job," but Denis had a whole bunch made up for his staff, and we had a good time watching 'em at my friend-who-works-for-him's house the day after 2003 BLACKOUT when his was the only neighborhood in Brooklyn with power.

god jon stewart owned on that mtv thing - he'd say nothing and not even really be paying attention for ten minutes while everyone worked it, pitching punchlines like crazy, and then he'd say one thing and it'd be (effortlessly) 1000 times funnier than anything anyone else had said (yes, even funnier than CHRIS KATTAN).

eleven months pass...
This is a fantastic show!! The writing is phenomenal!

"You're welcome for the bone marrow, ASSHOLE!!"

It is wrenching, too. It's kind of crazy that they can curse and say whatever they want.

I've seen a couple of episodes and I've liked them.

I saw the posters for this, it's on sky over here i think, the posters gave the impression that the plot is:

TOMBOT saves the good people from fires and gets sweaty and sooty in the process.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 15:45 (twenty years ago)

wow ed, that is pretty otm.

it is a good show.

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 15:49 (twenty years ago)

Yep.

Reading one of blount's post, I just realized that Radio Raheem is now Robbie Robertson in the Spider-Man flicks!

I've been hearing a lot of good things about this show. Unfortunately, I still have no interest in watching Leary do anything.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 16:29 (twenty years ago)

Get over it, dooder - the show's top notch (and full of cussin')!

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 16:30 (twenty years ago)

I might just!

We've been through the first four seasons (via Netflix) at our house; have seasons ive and six in our "save" queue. (Does season six even exist yet?) It's gone downhill a little, I'd say (a stinker episode here and there), but I'm still definitely a fan. (Plus they've filmed some scenes in Sunnyside, Queens, which is where I live.)

Also, probably the most Catholic TV show I've ever seen, for whatever that's worth (since The Flying Nun anyway.) At least as Catholic as the Hold Steady.
