Is anyone watching these?
Wee little Craig Beattie doing everything possible to stop Camara from coming to the Celtic and some other teams that I don't care about.

Yes, me (well, bits of them). I am alarmed at Celtic's defence in many ways, but I haven't seen the ManYoo game yet. Camara has apparently agreed to sign, but it's a defence we are needing more that that. And a goalkeeper.

so we're not talking nfl pre-season... zat rite?

Anthony (Plato Guy), Thursday, 29 July 2004 18:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Nope, but the Celtic are the only team playing out all the people trying to make the team. Chelsea are rolling over unfit Roma at the moment. Manu suck ass as always and Cisse is looking like he'll be a threat all season.

I'm all footballed out, can't work up any interest in these piddling friendlies, why does the season start earlier and earlier each season? Oh right, money.

Camara expected to be unveiled in an hour or so. Amoroso deal still allegedly on (this one I don't get: we didn't want to sign him without seeing him on the pre-season tour, he refused to play a 'trial', he went to Birmingham and got injured, now we're after him again?! He hasn't kicked a ball in 10 months!).

Beattie's goal vs ManU was stunning. Sadly, I fully expect him to be relegated to the bench for the 'real' football. Seems to be a Mark Burchill in the making :-(

Defence has been pish - big Joos said after the Liverpool game that if Mad Martin was watching him he'd be thinking he badly needs a centre half.

Looking forward to seeing what version of Bobby Petta we're going to get this season. Can't believe it kicks off in only a week.

I heard something about Camara being the most expensive loan sigining in the history of British football. Is he really that good?

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 30 July 2004 10:32 (twenty-one years ago)

No.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Friday, 30 July 2004 11:15 (twenty-one years ago)

If he was he wouldn't be playing for Wolves would he? Still there's always Amoroso - a Brazilian fanny-dancing hasbeen who hasn't kicked a ball in anger for 10 months and was too unfit to join Birmingham City.

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 30 July 2004 11:17 (twenty-one years ago)

That's the spirit :-P

A friend of mine went to the Skydome in Toronto last night to see Liverpool v Porto. I'm awaiting the report...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 30 July 2004 11:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Oops - the games's tonight. That explains the lack of news...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 30 July 2004 12:01 (twenty-one years ago)

just got an email from my friend back home. an excerpt:

"Liverpool were praciticing at the old varsity stadium, no stands anymore just grass, so I went and watched that from behind the fence, very interesting to see. At one point, one of their midfielders nails a ball and it bounces over the wall at the north end of the pitch and over onto bloor and bedford intersection--I was too far away to get it, but this dude picks it up....and gives it back. Only in canada."

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 30 July 2004 12:13 (twenty-one years ago)

... he'd have shot it in the US

Does this mean your third wee boy is going to be called Craig?

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 30 July 2004 12:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Har-de-har har.

Hope big Tony Mowbray gets your lot relegated :-P

Onimo (GerryNemo), Friday, 30 July 2004 12:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Well we're not getting gubbed off Liverpool at least.

OK, we're getting gubbed off nobodies from the Baltics instead. But we did beat Forfar the other day.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 30 July 2004 12:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Why varsity? They should at least practise at Birchmount or Centenial. I noticed last night one or two tourists branded CR Smith.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 30 July 2004 12:52 (twenty-one years ago)

The Liverpool game might not be too bad to watch, hopefully it will be a good indication that they'll be playing with their best defence being a good offense. But I'd rather see a movie then watch Porto theatrics.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 30 July 2004 12:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Dunno Noodles... I haven't been in Toronto in ages - I thought Varsity was completely demolished to make way for a mall or something.
Ha - all my high school track & field stuff took place at Birchmount! My shitty school didn't have a stadium/pool/etc. Yay Scarborough!

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 30 July 2004 13:16 (twenty-one years ago)

They're trying to get rid of all the school pools. Turning them into city pools or something in attempts to save money. It's a bit of a mess.
