I was kind of anticipating She Hate me until I read the review in The New Yorker.

I think I am greatly anticipating The Village, even though I know nothing about it.

What about you?

amateur!st (amateurist), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I too look forward to The Village though I have learned not to look forward much to movies much these days.

Michael White (Hereward), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:32 (twenty-one years ago)

you are a naughty little tease

xpost

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Michael, your movie jadedness never fails to sadden me.

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:32 (twenty-one years ago)

amateur!st

Salaud, va! ;)

Michael White (Hereward), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Are you my future?

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:33 (twenty-one years ago)

i am seeing the village tonight

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm semianticipating The Village and Collateral and Blade III. None of those that heavily though.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:33 (twenty-one years ago)

i bet the twist is THE VILLAGE IS REALLY A TOWN!

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:33 (twenty-one years ago)

do let us know please.

Blade III?

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:33 (twenty-one years ago)

i am looking forward to the village as well (i know this will turn some people off, but it seems to be hinting towards some post-9/11 allegory or something). still 2046 more than anything tho.

ryan (ryan), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:34 (twenty-one years ago)

When is the Thomas Vinterberg movie coming out in the US? Amateur!st?

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I was kind of anticipating She Hate me until I read the review in The New Yorker.

Me too.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:34 (twenty-one years ago)

man shyamalan has got some suspense-directing skills but his scripts are soooooo bad

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I know ILX doesn't like Anthony Lane, but that really really put me off in a big way.

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Blade II was awesome, but I will admit I was on cold medication when I watched it.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:35 (twenty-one years ago)

"swing away!"

amateur!st (amateurist), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't set to much store by my jadedosity. I was never more than a part-time movie fan anyway. I'm more of a books and poetry guy anyway. I predict, nay command a happy cinematic future, Adam.

Michael White (Hereward), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:35 (twenty-one years ago)

For the record I bear no ill will towards Anthony Lane.

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:35 (twenty-one years ago)

i just saw signs for the first time yesterday. i kind of liked it to be honest. i dont mind the religious stuff, and there was a lot of really funny touches.

ryan (ryan), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Have you read his collection of reviews?

Michael White (Hereward), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes.

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:36 (twenty-one years ago)

there was a thread on it where people totally bitched him out.

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:36 (twenty-one years ago)

BUT THEY ARE KILLED BY WATER IT'S SO DUMB AAAARGGGHH!

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:36 (twenty-one years ago)

The Village twist: THEY ARE KILLED BY AIR AND/OR FEATHERS.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Post-Anthony Lane review, I've shifted my predominantly African-American movie allegiances to The Cookout.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Sky Captain, Hero, Wimbledon, Alexander? I've been extremely underwhelmed by movies this year.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I think he's the bee's knees.

Michael White (Hereward), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yeah, Sky Captain looks kinda awesome. Laurence Olivier is in it.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:38 (twenty-one years ago)

And just to be provocative. Denby can go eat a bag of dicks.

Michael White (Hereward), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:38 (twenty-one years ago)

wimbledon looks like agony

ryan (ryan), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Laurence Olivier is in it.

Whaaaa?!?!

Michael White (Hereward), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:39 (twenty-one years ago)

oh and that deliverance style comedy with seth green...

ryan (ryan), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, two very different threads:

http://www.ilxor.com/searchresults.php?board=1&mode=threads&q=&titlepart=anthony+lane&name=&email=&username=&dateafter=&datebefore=&catid=all

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:39 (twenty-one years ago)

They used old footage of Olivier I guess. He's the bad guy. Though apparently his scenes are brief.

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Finding Neverland looks interesting, at least. So does Sky Captain. Alexander looks like butchery, in a way.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I am looking forward to seeing some more movies at some point.

o. nate (onate), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:42 (twenty-one years ago)

The Villages look as - or more - shitty than M. Night Shamaladingdong's last flick, with even more pseudoreligious new-agey shit.

Almodovar's 'La Mala Educacion'
Feig's 'I am David'
Scorcese's 'The Aviator'
Payne's 'Sideways'
Condon's 'Kinsey'
Miller/Rodriguez's 'Sin City'
Ramis's 'Ice House'

x j e r e m y (x Jeremy), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:42 (twenty-one years ago)

So, I'll intoxicate myself and wear headphones. That may do the trick...when I see it in a year-and-a-half like all the other movies I watch.

Michael White (Hereward), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:45 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm looking forward to the Village even though I feel I should hate Shamylan (sp?), I find myself liking his movies every time I watch them. They're better if I think of them as long episodes of Tales from the Darkside or something.

She Hate Me looks dumb beyond words. I mean, really, Spike, try harder.

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:45 (twenty-one years ago)

You tell him, Kyle!

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm very much anticipating Oliver Stone's Alexander the Great biopic. I always kind of liked Stone's ability to craft visceral spectacles, as ridiculous and mysogynistic as he can be.
"Alexander" has an enormous budget and features a number of eccentric actors Colin Farrel, Angelina Jolie, Val Kilmer, and Anthony Hopkins narrates from and old timey library.
Though Stone's last two films were quite weak. The idea of this gang of crazy motherfuckers with tons of money makes me hopeful that the result will be very interesting if nothing else.

herbert hebert (herbert hebert), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Feig's 'I am David'
What is this? Is this Paul Feig of Freaks & Geeks fame?

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Almodovar's 'La Mala Educacion'
Feig's 'I am David'
Scorcese's 'The Aviator'
Payne's 'Sideways'
Condon's 'Kinsey'
Miller/Rodriguez's 'Sin City'
Ramis's 'Ice House'

I have to say that none of these excite me like they should. maybe the Almodovar and Payne. I fear Sin City. Is "The Aviator" the long-promised Howard Hughes project? I have have had an almost lifelong HH obsession and fear the worst for that one.

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:47 (twenty-one years ago)

scorcese is a total oscar whore now

ryan (ryan), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, and I Am David AKA North to Freedom by Anne Holm is an absolutely wonderful and brilliant piece of young adult fiction.

x j e r e m y (x Jeremy), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll welcome any Harold Ramis movie with open arms, even despite Bedazzled and Stuart Saves his family. Plus, the cast on Ice House that one is super-duper, and Cusack's been away from really funny stuff for too long.

x j e r e m y (x Jeremy), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Just saw Manchurian Candidate a last night: awful. No idea why it's getting semi-good press.
Now I have to go and review Britney-8 Mile's new rom com Little Black Book. Yey!

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I Robot!

You can't go wrong with Will Smith and robots!

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:51 (twenty-one years ago)

The Aviator supposedly concentrates on his early years, not the batshit crazy later days, so we won't see Dicaprio dressed up in an old man beard with long fingernails urinating into a mason jar unfortunately. We may have seen something close to that if Brian Depalma got to make his Hughes biopic that he wanted to do in 98' with Nic Cage.

herbert hebert (herbert hebert), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Post-Anthony Lane review, I've shifted my predominantly African-American movie allegiances to The Cookout.

I missed this post but it made me crack up with laughter for some reason.

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I know Jaymc really does think about this stuff.

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:58 (twenty-one years ago)

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Thursday, 29 July 2004 21:58 (twenty-one years ago)

We're going to watch "Trouble in Paradise" again this evening.

Michael White (Hereward), Thursday, 29 July 2004 22:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Collateral yes!

I'm expecting Bruce Willis to make That Yellow Bastard acceptable.

The Dreaded Rear Admiral (Leee), Thursday, 29 July 2004 22:14 (twenty-one years ago)

"I'm expecting Bruce Willis to make That Yellow Bastard acceptable" = code for Jessica Alba is teh stripper!

The Dreaded Rear Admiral (Leee), Thursday, 29 July 2004 22:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Zatoichi.

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Thursday, 29 July 2004 22:41 (twenty-one years ago)

"The Aviator supposedly concentrates on his early years, not the batshit crazy later days, so we won't see Dicaprio dressed up in an old man beard with long fingernails urinating into a mason jar unfortunately. "

I am disappointed now.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Thursday, 29 July 2004 22:44 (twenty-one years ago)

gwen stefani is in it

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 29 July 2004 22:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not sure why anyone would look forward to a Spike Lee joint these days. She Hate Me appears as though it'll make Chasing Amy look like a subtle masterwork. Take away two or three films and Spike's a hack.

Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 29 July 2004 22:50 (twenty-one years ago)

was the premise of She Hate Me written by a horny 15 year old boy?

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 29 July 2004 22:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Collateral
She Hate Me
The Grudge starring Buffy

I've absolutely hated both M. Night movies I've seen (Signs and Sixth Sense), but I've got hope for The Village.

Opening this week in Dallas, I've got to see Maria Full of Grace

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Thursday, 29 July 2004 22:54 (twenty-one years ago)

She Hate Me is also 135 minutes long.

Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 29 July 2004 22:54 (twenty-one years ago)

No that was Kids. i still stand up for Kids.

xxpost

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Thursday, 29 July 2004 22:54 (twenty-one years ago)

yes, maria full of grace looks good.

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Thursday, 29 July 2004 22:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not sure why anyone would look forward to a Spike Lee joint these days.
The last ten minutes of 25th Hour.

I thought the Then They Lez It Up stuff in SHM was a MacGuffin for Lee to look at corporate wrongdoing?

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Thursday, 29 July 2004 22:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Unless She Hate Me is about a crossdressing Rod Smart, that's the worst film title ever.

The Dreaded Rear Admiral (Leee), Thursday, 29 July 2004 22:55 (twenty-one years ago)

The last ten minutes of 25th Hour.

Actually, all of 25th Hour, my favorite film of 2002.

jaymc, Thursday, 29 July 2004 23:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, but especially the last ten minutes.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Thursday, 29 July 2004 23:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I am having serious trouble trying to decide whether to waste $6 and 2 hours at the drive-in seeing The Village so I can see friends tomorrow. I can't help thinking thata trailer saying nothing about the movie besides that things living in the woods hate red and that the director also was responsible for Signs (which I thought was really stupid) is a bad sign.

Maria (Maria), Thursday, 29 July 2004 23:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Just saw Little Black Book. There was a preview of Collateral in the screen next door. I want to shoot myself.

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Friday, 30 July 2004 00:15 (twenty-one years ago)

cºzen (Cozen), Friday, 30 July 2004 00:29 (twenty-one years ago)

It looks surprisingly decent. Jamie Foxx's really beginning to make a name for himself, methinks.

x j e r e m y (x Jeremy), Friday, 30 July 2004 01:08 (twenty-one years ago)

The Bourne Supremacy had a trailer for Ray (about... Ray Charles) starring Foxx. It looked OK.

milo, I share your corny indie fuck movielove.

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Friday, 30 July 2004 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Heh, Milo, that's a perfect description. I think there's a mousy little blonde girl in George Washington, too. Also: Rory is my favorite Culkin.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 30 July 2004 15:18 (twenty-one years ago)

the NYT review of "the village" pretty much confirmed s1ocki's opinion of shyamalan: good, solid direction; impossibly hokey and contrived script with "metaphysical" overtones.

there was also a pretty positive review of "manchurian candidate"; i have to admit i'll probably see it, out of curiosity if nothing else.

amateur!st (amateurist), Friday, 30 July 2004 15:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, Manchurian Candidate has had some good reviews (my lifelong friend CHUCK TATUM'S excepted! ;) )!

mmmmm father dowling *far-off look*.

sorry, wrong thread.

cºzen (Cozen), Friday, 30 July 2004 18:39 (twenty-one years ago)

one year passes...
This Harold Ramis crime comedy with Cusack and Thornton might -- MIGHT -- be interesting... the script is by Richard Russo and Robert Benton!
