and what do you use?
do you change brands to keep your skin from getting 'complacent' or used to something?
do you get someone else to moisturise your body for you?
if youre a guy answering this, are you too manly to use cream?

thesplooge (thesplooge), Friday, 30 July 2004 09:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I try to moisturise all of my body at least once a week. certain areas like say my arms, i try to moisturise every day. I am currently using clarins body moisturiser which is lovely!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Friday, 30 July 2004 09:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I have to moisturise parts of my face which dry up often, I know more and more guys these days who use moisturiser

Ste (Fuzzy), Friday, 30 July 2004 09:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh I moisturise my face at least once a day.

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Friday, 30 July 2004 09:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Every day. I also do body brushing because I am vain/ have too much time on my hands.

For my face I use Oil of Olay Complete Care. For my body I use either some goopy sandlewood scented stuff from Boots, a Sanctuary one with ginger in it, a mint one from Ted Baker, a Palmers Coco Butter one with shimmery bits in it or baby lotion. Clearly this is why I have no money. I spend it all on insane amounts of body lotion.

Anna (Anna), Friday, 30 July 2004 09:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I now swear by oil rather than lotion, especially in winter. Once when you get out of the shower is enough until your next shower. I carry a small bottle of lotion in my purse in case my hands get dry after washing them too.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 30 July 2004 09:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I used exfoliator (sp) on my arms & legs twice a week & my face once a week. I have a tube of hand cream which i use every time after i wash my hands. I have a really nice intensive one that i use every night.

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Friday, 30 July 2004 09:19 (twenty-one years ago)

can we extend this thread to include lip balms and whatever you use for your lips (if anything) as well? i sometimes just put cream on my lips too when im too lazy to find a lip balm or whatever to use instead.

thesplooge (thesplooge), Friday, 30 July 2004 09:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I am addicted to lip balm. I panic when I dont have it with me. I use 1 or 2 a week.

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Friday, 30 July 2004 09:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Yep. London water = bastard chemical jizz of Satan, hence need mucho moisturiser on face and shoulders very soon after showering, or flakiness ensues. My dad has manky dandruff and flaky skin and I'm not a fan of that starting. I always carry lip balm with me and frequently apply it during the day. I need to exfoliate my elbows as they are grim at the moment, for which I will use a nice Boots vanilla sugar scrub that moisturises as well. Gah this makes me feel really self-indulgent and vain.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 30 July 2004 09:25 (twenty-one years ago)

When I feel dry and scaly I use Body Shop Body Butter. Especially on my elbows, knees and ankles. I don't use it every day though. I'll use it if I feel dry, or if I am going to wear a skirt/tights.

I use a facial moisturiser every day, though. Oil of Olay. Maybe I should change to something more fancy, but it was good enough for my Great Grandmother (who used to have it shipped over to Africa) then it's good enough for me.

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Friday, 30 July 2004 09:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahaha I thought this was about Jason from BB: I watched the live feed last night of Jason moisturising for FORTY MINUTES.

Sarah (starry), Friday, 30 July 2004 09:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Every day. Clinique Dram Diff on my face and whatever's cheap in TK Maxx on the rest of me - most recently it's been some La Perlier royal jelly stuff that smells yummy. I don't mind spending money on stuff that makes me feel nice and besides, I have no intention of ending up with a leatherette cleavage in my advanced years.

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 30 July 2004 09:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I've got a pot of carmex lip balm sitting on my desk that i use several times a day, a tube of E45 in my drawer for my hands and use palmers cocoa butter or johnson & johnson dry oil body spray depending on how dry my skin is and how much of a hurry i'm in. I like elizabeth arden extreme conditioning creme as a facial moisturiser and eight hour cream is good for a multitude of things.

leigh (leigh), Friday, 30 July 2004 09:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha. Pink, Im the same way with lip balm. For the past 15 years, I have gone through 2 a week. Its also called obsessive compulsive.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Friday, 30 July 2004 10:05 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm also addicted to lip balm. i bring over about 10 or 15 bonne bell lip smackers in dr pepper flavor every time i go to the states (usually twice a year) and get through that, although some go as gifts. that's my signature balm, although i also have a blistex lip revitalizer as well as loads of glosses because my friend is a beauty journalist and gets loads of samples.

i use st. ives 24 hour moisture on my legs when i get out of the shower, and on my arms and shoulders if i think of it.

i love this kind of stuff. my flatmate was amazed at the amount of bath crap i had when i moved in...

colette (a2lette), Friday, 30 July 2004 10:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, most of the stuff in the bathroom belongs to me.

Anna (Anna), Friday, 30 July 2004 10:13 (twenty-one years ago)

They always seem to discontinue the lip balms that I get hooked on!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Friday, 30 July 2004 10:13 (twenty-one years ago)

But Anna, it's a way of treating yourself without spending too much money. Well at least, that's what i tell myself, even though it ends up costing loads.

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Friday, 30 July 2004 10:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I refuse to be the only boy to post about body moisturising so I'm keeping hushed

Porkpie (porkpie), Friday, 30 July 2004 10:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I moisturise my face every day and my body after I take a shower (which is every or every other day, it depends). I moisturise my scalp every time after I've shaved it (I'm a baldie by choice), because shaving irritates the scalp. I'd love to use some of the more expensive moisturisers, but I'm very poor, so I usually buy the cheapest moisturiser that isn't too oily. I'm not sure whether there's that big a difference between different moisturisers, though, besides the brand name. Oh, and whenever possible, I try to pick cosmetic products that aren't tested on animals.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Friday, 30 July 2004 10:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm an addict for lip balm too, by the way.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Friday, 30 July 2004 10:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Some of my flatmates have found it funny that I'm usually the one who spends the longest amount of time in the bathroom, even though they are girls and I'm a guy. I also used wear make-up every day, but I think there's another thread by me on that subject somewhere in the ILE archives.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Friday, 30 July 2004 10:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I use sorboline, every day. People ask me what my secret is, why I look so young. I tell them my secret is sorboline... and oral sex.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 30 July 2004 10:41 (twenty-one years ago)

what make up did you wear? ive always been curious about wearing makeup but have never done it.

thesplooge (thesplooge), Friday, 30 July 2004 10:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm like Tuomas (minus the scalp thing). Moisturising is part of my ritual which I will NOT skip. Considering I like being in the sun I try to keep my skin as healthy as possible. So to answer the thread's questions (starting with the subject):
-Yes
-Every day (roughly)
-Usually Vaseline intesive care for the body, varying after-shave balms (right now some Nivea For Men stuff) for the shaved area of the face, and Body Shop 'face protector' stuff for the non-shaved parts of my face.
-Yes, I change brands, but usually for cost reasons (what's on sale!)
-If possible, yes, but mostly I do it myself.
-I am a man who uses moisturiser and I don't feel any less manly at all.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 30 July 2004 10:41 (twenty-one years ago)

x-post
so it's not anal sex? Why you wait til I get home!!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Friday, 30 July 2004 10:41 (twenty-one years ago)

hahahaha

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 30 July 2004 10:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Last night a lady I was chatting with was surprised when I told her I was 33 - she thought I was closer to her age (25). OK, she was probably being polite but I do get this regularly (provided it's dark enough not to notice my grey hairs), so I must be doing something right.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 30 July 2004 10:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude, you totally look younger than your age!!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Friday, 30 July 2004 10:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm 37 but people think I'm 27 even though I'm going bald. Why? Sorboline. All over me. Every day. And lots of yummy carpet.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 30 July 2004 10:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks Pink! But there are times when I probably look 40! :(

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 30 July 2004 10:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Well yes! ;-)

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Friday, 30 July 2004 10:55 (twenty-one years ago)

You do look a lot younger Rob. My mum thought you were my age.

Anna (Anna), Friday, 30 July 2004 10:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Hooray for moisturiser! Proven by science!

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 30 July 2004 12:17 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm a product addict, too. i moisturize everyday. face: in summer, i alternate kielh's blue herbal moisturzier with a dr.brandt exfoliating cream. other seasons, i used lancome's impactive day cream. the rest of me currently gets treated with an estee lauder moisturizer, and i have a mini-pot of the body shop's mango body butter in my bag for emergencies. for lips, i use benefit's silky balm or a nivea rose balm. once a day, i apply some lancome crap to keep them from getting wrinkly.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 30 July 2004 12:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I just discovered kiss my face peaches 'n cream, which works really well with my oily face in the summer. Ihave problems with products being too heavy and slimy. I'm addicted to Bonne Bell strawberry lip gloss and have been since I've been 5. I use spray oil from the Body Shop for legs after shaving, it seems to work quite well.

My problem is that I have excema on the back of my arms and nothing seems to work to soften it. Gah. Any suggestions? It's not bad enough for a dermatologist.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Friday, 30 July 2004 12:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I always find that e45 cream works really well jocelyn. although i'm sure you've tried that!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Friday, 30 July 2004 12:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I haven't actually, Pink, but I'll try it now.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Friday, 30 July 2004 13:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Get to it lady, it's great!!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Friday, 30 July 2004 13:07 (twenty-one years ago)

tell me more of this sorboline

g--ff (gcannon), Friday, 30 July 2004 13:10 (twenty-one years ago)

My wife has been telling me to moisterize my face for many months and finally bought some stuff (it might be oil of olay of some sort?). I was resistant. I finally starting using it and now I cannot stop. It feels so damn good.

mcd (mcd), Friday, 30 July 2004 13:49 (twenty-one years ago)

i use walgreens mosturizer for my face in the winter, and my elbows and hands. i have some carmex, but i dont use it all the time. if my hair is very short in the winter, i smack a little bit on the scalp.

AaronK (AaronK), Friday, 30 July 2004 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I use this in-shower moisturizer that's just amazing. (Bath and Body Works, I think) Perfect for when I feel too lazy to do it afterward.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Friday, 30 July 2004 15:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I use moisturising cream from Trevor Sorbie's Professional Male Grooming range. Also Laboratoire Garnier Synergie products for cleansing, sebum control, muscle rub gel etc.

Ben Mott (Ben Mott), Friday, 30 July 2004 15:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I hardly ever use moisturizer on my body. Yesterday, though.. I did something most likely idiotic. I BOUGHT CREME DE LA MER OMG WTF?

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Friday, 30 July 2004 16:05 (twenty-one years ago)

omg! how is it? i've always wanted to try it but the truly insane price tag kept me away, plus i've been told that it's too heavy for my skin.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 30 July 2004 16:10 (twenty-one years ago)

So far, so good, Lauren! I bought the oil absorbing variety. So I guess I didn't get 'creme' - so I guess I should correct myself and just say I bought la mer.

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Friday, 30 July 2004 16:14 (twenty-one years ago)

However, for the price, this shit better make me look like a million bucks.

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Friday, 30 July 2004 16:17 (twenty-one years ago)

high five, mandee!

shit. i'm so pathetic. i really should not get so worked up over face cream, but i can't help it.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 30 July 2004 16:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Worse things to reve up over, Lauren....

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Friday, 30 July 2004 17:16 (twenty-one years ago)

g--ff, I could tell you more about sorboline but I think I've raved excessively about it before. I think I even said I ate it at one point. Enough is enough. However, without sorboline, I would turn into a red, fissured sore within hours. I even shave with it.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 30 July 2004 21:33 (twenty-one years ago)

"reve up" = suddenly start daydreaming?

i use an enormous tub of Boots cream, classy and cheap!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 30 July 2004 21:43 (twenty-one years ago)

reve up with me, dream lover

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 30 July 2004 21:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I only moisturize my legs when I shave them and my face when I think it's getting dry. I use Neutrogena facial moisturizer and whatever nice-smelling lotions I get as gifts for my legs.

Maria (Maria), Friday, 30 July 2004 22:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I do - every day.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 30 July 2004 22:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I've become a bit of a Kiehl's whore (their standalone London shop is a 15 minute walk from here). In college I worked at the first Body Shop in the US so used their stuff for 10 years, until they'd discontinued all the stuff that I liked - and I

Face: I moisturise with Ultra Facial Moisturiser if I need a light moisturiser, overnights and wintry days get Panthenol Protein Moisturising Face Cream. There are no sunscreens in these products, that's why I use them.

Body: I do lotion straight out of the shower and right now, that lotion is Deluxe Hand and Body Lotion with Aloe Vera and Oatmeal, and the handcream with 10SPF that I can't use because PABA plus heat makes me break out.

Exfoliation - bath mitts and Dr. Bronner's tea tree oil castile soap on the body, Simple face wash dusted with some baking soda on the face. Baking soda turns whatever you're using into a scrub with its granules, it's got soothing properties and in summer is bliss on a sunburn.

Ally needs to be here, really. She was here when I went to Kiehl's and there was a Good Fairy working there (eg. gay male shop assistant who is free and easy with samples) and arrived back to my place with a bagful of sachets and small bottles - mmmmmmm.
