"A regular can of Coke" - singular. Steve is still winning.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 12:43 (twenty-one years ago)

1.99 form 12 is good - but yeh, multipacks don't count

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 12:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Mmmm Sam Smith's basic larger? In Peckham? Does this have to be a public house?

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 12:48 (twenty-one years ago)

ENRQ (Enrique), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 12:48 (twenty-one years ago)

2. What is the longest amount of time you waited for a London bus?

me: 47 minutes for a 123 from Turnpike Lane. It was really cold so I didn't want to leave the bus shelter.

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 16:03 (twenty-one years ago)

the bus didn't come tho! so the wait could've been even longer. i went home in disgust so never found out.

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 16:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Probably about 20 minutes, I usually give up and start walking at such a point.

3. Most tolerable 'public' (ie can be in shop eg Waterstones Piccadilly, but not pub where they tend to take a dim view) place to urinate?

ENRQ (Enrique), Thursday, 5 August 2004 11:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Steve, I think Vicky once diod over an hour waiting for a 123 in Tottenham, and she was coming home so had no choice but to sit there, no taxis in sight.

Porkpie (porkpie), Thursday, 5 August 2004 11:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Boarders on Charing Cross Road Enrique.

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 5 August 2004 11:21 (twenty-one years ago)

good call from Anna there, also Borders on Oxford street.

John Lewis too

Porkpie (porkpie), Thursday, 5 August 2004 11:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, I've only done this when drunk, but mid-range hotels are great if you need the loo. Just walk in with the air of someone staying there and use the bathroom in the lobby. (Scuzzy hotels don't have them and posh hotels just know you're not staying there).

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 5 August 2004 11:23 (twenty-one years ago)

kings cross station (would cost you a whooping 20p though)

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 5 August 2004 11:28 (twenty-one years ago)

ah yes tolerable and free. paddington also = 20p and isn't that nice anyway.

ENRQ (Enrique), Thursday, 5 August 2004 11:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Anna otm, i went into Old Street Holiday Inn once, not only to use the lavs but also to FIX MY HAIR

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Thursday, 5 August 2004 11:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I waited over an hour for a bus once when NINE of the buggers went by in the opposite direction. I also waited 90 minutes for a bus at Waterloo when the power was down last year.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 5 August 2004 11:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Borders lav thirded.

Wooden (Wooden), Thursday, 5 August 2004 11:35 (twenty-one years ago)

an hour and 10 minutes for a 94 on oxford street after the cancelled kid koala dj set in borders one evening. (two went by full and didn't stop but the first of those was after 45 minutes). my ticket bought from the machine had officially expired but driver didn't notice.

(and hooray for bookshop toilets.)

koogs (koogs), Thursday, 5 August 2004 11:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Obv night buses don't count, right? I'm still waiting for one from October 30th, 1998.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 5 August 2004 11:37 (twenty-one years ago)

There are those open air unrineries in places like Soho Square. Godsend for boys. Otherwise, during the day, the Photographers Gallery has a very relaxed loo policy.

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Thursday, 5 August 2004 11:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I waited just over an hour for either a 102 or a 299 at Bounds Green tube station when it snowed in Jan/Feb this year before giving up and walking back to Muswell Hill, which took me 40 minutes and no buses went past me in that time, so nearly 2 hours!

You can easily use the loos in the pub at the top of Paddington station to avoid paying 20p :)

poopy, Thursday, 5 August 2004 12:00 (twenty-one years ago)

also re cheapest pints, several pubs round Wood Green tube used to be about £1.50 a pint, but that was a year or 2 ago so may have gone up now. Jolly Anglers did Stella for £1.50 during the week.

poopy, Thursday, 5 August 2004 12:01 (twenty-one years ago)

loos: the ica. waterstones i find tends to have queues, at least in 1st floor mens.

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 5 August 2004 12:04 (twenty-one years ago)

ICA is easily accessible but a bit minging, and often cramped. True about the queues, tho. [Possibly this sort of thing will exercise me less when I live in London]

ENRQ (Enrique), Thursday, 5 August 2004 12:06 (twenty-one years ago)

NB: some borders have locks on the doors*, the thing to do is go to the info counter and ask for a token, or carry a couple of dimes with you (as that appears to be what the tokens are...)

*nice warm secure toilets are soon heard about by london's homeless drug-using population, unfortunately...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 5 August 2004 12:08 (twenty-one years ago)

border's toilets have locks on the doors, that should be, you don't need a token to get into the shop...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 5 August 2004 12:08 (twenty-one years ago)

why do you think i posted this???

member of london's homeless drug-using population (Enrique), Thursday, 5 August 2004 12:10 (twenty-one years ago)

The Paddington bogs are free after a certain time of night, so if you can just hold it in for a bit, Bob's your uncle.

As an intellectual, I like nothing better than using the bogs at the National Gallery (Sainsbury's Wing) or the British Museum.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Thursday, 5 August 2004 12:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I waited over one hour for a 131 outside Kingsmeadow. Bllody rubbish service that one. Whilst waiting at Mount Pleasant for a 19, saw the 38 go past 13 times before the 19 arrived. Jeez.

I have once slept on a bus seat, lying down. Oh yes. I rock.

Dave B (daveb), Thursday, 5 August 2004 12:12 (twenty-one years ago)

dave you menko, why didn't you get the 38 to angel and then you have more options for finsbury park related travel (although one of those is the 4)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 5 August 2004 12:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah, the inevitable gravitation of any London thread towards public transport. It makes me feel warm and toasty inside. Or maybe that's the lack of air conditioning.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 5 August 2004 12:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha! I was going towards Battersea, and knew that my two options were to get a 38 to Victoria and chnage onto a b us there (which I once got, but it took 45 minutes) or the 19.

So ner ner ner (daveb), Thursday, 5 August 2004 12:31 (twenty-one years ago)

you could have got the 38 to the bottom of park lane, and then hooked up with the 137 that goes to battersea.

Vicky (Vicky), Thursday, 5 August 2004 12:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Now I find this out

Dave B (daveb), Thursday, 5 August 2004 12:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Oy vay!

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 5 August 2004 12:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Presumably during these marathon bus waits people have to go to the toilet and while you are away the bus whizzes past.
