Request: Norton Utilities

Hello all. I'm in a bit of a jam with my Mac. I'm wondering if maybe someone has a recent version of Norton Utilities appropriate for Mac OS 9.2 that they could burn and send to me. I'd be happy to reimburse for shipping or send you a copied music CD or anything like that in return.

My CD of Norton is messed up and I am having problems w/my hard drive, so I need it pretty bad.

Any help is very, very appreciated!

(You can email me offboard if you like. Just replace the exclamation marks with i's in my address.)

I don't even know who you are!

norton sucks for mac. they have discontinued it. you should be requesting diskwarrior or tech tool.

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 13:05 (twenty years ago)

discontinued? i had no idea. well, then, a similar utility like diskwarrior or tech tool. (gosh, i remember using tech tool in like, 1992.)

"not interviewing"--not sure what this means.

jon, out of compassion, please explain why you continue to post "Mac OS9"? are you amazed that someone would still be using such a thing?

Does anyone have a copy of the AfterDark 2.0 for MS-DOS?!?!?!

jon can you drop the "stunned" pose for a moment and think about what you are doing?

i am using mac os9 because i purchased my powerbook in 1995. i haven't had the money, since then, to replace it. so i make do with what i have. i don't find it terribly inconvenient, because i don't see any inherent value in getting abreast of technology. although if i had the money, i wouldn't hesitate to purchase a newer powerbook with osx.

from my perspective, you seem to be making fun, not of an outdated operating system, but of the fact that i can't afford to upgrade as quickly as yourself. there's a strange sense of entitlement and ridicule evident in this behavior that i find offensive. perhaps i am reading in too much, but this is my reaction and i hope you will try to understand it.

so, i ask you to lay off the jocularity on this particular subject--and not use my sudden earnestness as another opportunity for mockery, either. i'm in a tight situation--i need my computer for a job search, and if it's broken i'm doomed because as noted above i can't afford another at the moment--and it really doesn't helped to be mocked for, of all things, using an out of date computer operating system.

thank you. feel free to email me off board if you would like to continue discussing this.

in other words, i am aware i am using an old operating system, and i'm only happy to acknowledge as much. however, unless you want to send me the needed software, or purchase me a new computer, i'd appreciate it if you wouldn't be so petty as to indulge in ridicule for that fact. not everyone places, or can afford to place, a premium on keeping up with technology. please understand that.

i don't understand that post. are you saying i could find a relevant piece of software as shareware? if you think this, please let me know of a piece of shared software you think would fit the bill.

amateur!st (amateurist), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 13:57 (twenty years ago)

as for system upgrades, my powerbook can't handle osx unfortunately. i have the most recent recommended version of os9 that my powerbook can handle.

amateur!st (amateurist), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 13:57 (twenty years ago)

seriously, why continue in this vein? i made a fairly straightforward request, for norton utilities. if you cannot help me with that, what point is there to rub my face in the fact that i am using an older operating system?

amateur!st (amateurist), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 14:02 (twenty years ago)

ok jon, i understand where this is headed. have fun with your thread.

People,
People who need people,
Are the luckiest people in the world
We're children, needing other children
And yet letting a grown-up pride
Hide all the need inside
Acting more like children than children
Lovers are very special people
They're the luckiest people in the world
With one person one very special person
A feeling deep in your soul
Says you were half now you're whole
No more hunger and thirst
But first be a person who needs people
People who need people
Are the luckiest people in the world
With one person one very special person
No more hunger and thirst
But first be a person who needs people
People who need people
Are the luckiest people in the world...
