i expect hal hartley's "no such thing" falls into the former category, but i haven't seen it because the title is so shitty

Dumb and Dumberer - the most brilliant thing about it is the title. I'm assuming. I mean, I haven't seen it.

i have

(weeps)

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 6 August 2004 18:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, I've seen No Such Thing, so there you go. (It was good).

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Friday, 6 August 2004 18:11 (twenty-one years ago)

so we have our first official entry!

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 6 August 2004 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

adaptation (latter)

No Such Thing was cute but retarded.

Is the bad movie title like the bad album cover thing? Sure seems like it. Or is it just that if you really like a movie the title gets better in your mind.

Leon-vs-The Professional

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 6 August 2004 18:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't even know why I posted that.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 6 August 2004 18:18 (twenty-one years ago)

because you love it

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 6 August 2004 18:22 (twenty-one years ago)

This is harder than I thought. I was gonna say Ginger Snaps cuz I just watched it and it was really cool, but the only problem is Ginger Snaps is a great name for a movie.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 6 August 2004 18:26 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, good movies with good titles don't count!

Spy Kids 2: Island Of Whatthefuckever It Was The Island Of

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 6 August 2004 18:40 (twenty-one years ago)

The Bourne Identity

(and, to a lesser extent, The Bourne Supremacy)

what titles could be stupider and less compelling?

antexit (antexit), Friday, 6 August 2004 21:40 (twenty-one years ago)

And in the bad movie with a good title category (which is easier than the other one):

Bela Lugosi Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla

The funniest movie title of all time.

I hated Adaptation (loved the title, the concept, Chris Cooper, but the rest... ). I have a really hard time remembering Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, the title that is, I have to prep myself, "OK, how's it go?" like I'm going to come up with Eternal Spotlight of the Mindless Sun (which I prefer)—though I 'd defend the original as a kickass line of verse. And liked the movie a lot, especialy sweet and sour Kate WInslet

Bad Movie with Good Title:The Phantom Menace
Very evocative title for a piece of stinky, lowbrow fecal scunge with way too much Jar Jar.

Good Movie with Bad Title:Attack of the Clones*
Cheesy bad b-grade 50s title attached to a pair of fascinating battle scenes.

* = I'm basing my rating of "Good" on only the last 20 minutes of the movie.

alex, we're not talking about bad movies with bad titles! they do not contain that precious contradiction which we seek here!
