Let's give him a chance! :) Gale

The only reason I'd give Garth Brooks a chance is to get his hopes up before I chopped off his other arm and thus make the experience more agonising.

At first I thought this thread was going to be about Common.

Ian, Saturday, 10 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Now Ronin... Lol Did I git yer dander up? lol Gale

Gale Deslongchamps, Saturday, 10 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Go Ronan! No Mercy! No Mercy!

Kim, Saturday, 10 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Better Garth than Billy Ray fucking Cyrus, but that ain't saying much.

Proper country good. Bluegrass great. Garth "pop country" Brooks needs stringing up like a chicken.

ogden speaketh the TROOF.

Now Ronin

ronan = masterless samurai, wandering in search of his destiny, killing mulleted pop-country twats along the way?

jess, Sunday, 11 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Garth Brooks is 'proper' country - he's by no means the first C+W star to chase chart rock/pop 'action' - he's just not GOOD country.

I think you really have to keep him in perspective. He's arena country, openly and happily inspired by Kiss. Combined with his penchant for doing strange things (the 'old French whore' turn on SNL, not to mention that wonderfully bizarre Kevin Rowlands impersonation, of all people!) and a few times even going against his presumed demographic (how many stars of his stature in country music have spoken openly and positively about gay rights?), it makes him an interesting figure to regard.

That said, the music still eats. ;-)

I love Country but when i say that and people think that means Garth Brooks. it gives me hives. He, Tim McGraw Faith Hill or ANY OF THE BULL SHIT YOU HEAR ON CONEMTPARY COUNTRY RADIO ISNT COUNTRY. They shall all be burnt in the wrath of God . God himself will let them rot while The Cashes and Loretta Lynn will be allowed to sing in the choirs.

anthony, Sunday, 11 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Thank you Anthony. Someone needed to say that.

Ronan, Sunday, 11 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

But was that someone Anthony?

ogden, Sunday, 11 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hey hold up, I think there's some confusion here. Are we chopping off his arms, incinerating him with omnipotent wrath, or just leaving him to rot? Me and the boodthirsty horde just wanna know for the sake of the jeering, chanting, and stuff.

The one thing I learned from Elementary sch00l in Idaho is "Standing Outside the Fire" is about Not Doing Drugs.

Don't Do Drugs! "They're so hell-bent on giving/walking a wire/ Convinced it's not living/if you stand outside the fire"

I heard this song SO MANY times for so many anti-drug presentations. Any gritty photo of a junkie brings this song to mind. Forever connected!

Anthony, you sound like my father, sort of. He says radio country is evil and bluegrass is great.

maria, Sunday, 11 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'd rather have Billy Rae cyrus than garth brooks- he was less prolific and funnier to look at. Both are evil though
