lauren (laurenp), Sunday, 8 August 2004 15:20 (twenty-one years ago)

heh, but that was when I was 8. I went up the tower though, dunno if you can do that anymore, and bought loads of Smurfs. Italy was Smurf mad in 1984. Actually, the first thing I saw when I went to Belguim was a display of Smurfs in a shop window at Brussels airport, and that was 1994.

Wait, I forgot Paris (where's that thread about film titles as imperatives?). You can kick London out of my list now if you like. I'm not that fond of it really, but I have had some good times there.

i've noticed that a lot of people have a sentimental attachment to london, moreso than to most cities. this doesn't correlate with greatness.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Monday, 9 August 2004 14:05 (twenty-one years ago)

this was really hard for me. i keep thinking in terms of where i'd live, which makes my list look like this:

london (wouldn't be here otherwise)
new york (one of the few places i could live in the states if i moved back)

but then there's places that i love because of nostalgia, but don't want to go back, like:
ann arbor (so many amazing memories, though i don't think i could go back)
chicago (love the city, but it was just a touch too midwestern for me)

and some of the cities i've visited that i'm not sure i could live in but really loved. that list is longer, so i'll try to cut it down and say it's a tie between:
portland/vancouver/toronto/stockholm/hong kong

i suck at picking favorites!

colette (a2lette), Monday, 9 August 2004 14:06 (twenty-one years ago)

and of BIG GIGANTOR NUCLEAR FACILITY fame, too.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 9 August 2004 17:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Pigeon Forge is, like, putt-putt courses and Elvis impersonators. Oak Ridge is, like, a giant nuclear facility and rich Catholic families. I don't geddit.

i used to love new orleans but last time i was there was a disappointment

duke tipp, Monday, 9 August 2004 18:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Last time I was in New Orleans, I got robbed at gunpoint. My sister and I were on ecstacy wandering in a bad neighborhood, so we were sort of asking for it.

Maria D. (Maria D.), Monday, 9 August 2004 18:57 (twenty-one years ago)

1. London, by a distance
2. NYC, the only other city I could imagine living, as it seems the most similar to London that I've experienced, in the ways that matter to me.
3. Istanbul, the best city I've ever holidayed in.
4. Paris, maybe somewhere I could live if the language wasn't an extra drawback, and somewhere I'd certainly have a flat if I were rich.
5. Barcelona, for the buildings mostly.

Harold Media (kenan), Monday, 9 August 2004 19:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't like cities. Gary epitomizes a lot of what I don't like about them, therefore it is one of my favorites.

oops (Oops), Monday, 9 August 2004 19:47 (twenty-one years ago)
