come ooooonnn it's ok right?

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 8 August 2004 17:59 (twenty-one years ago)

just one.

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 8 August 2004 17:59 (twenty-one years ago)

so wrong but it feels so right

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 8 August 2004 18:03 (twenty-one years ago)

it probably is ok. though I nearly killed myself by having a party on friday when I was sick.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 8 August 2004 18:03 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah i've done that before on the dubious theory that the booze & whatnot will drive out the germs! (never really does)

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 8 August 2004 18:04 (twenty-one years ago)

it does while you're drunk!

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 8 August 2004 18:05 (twenty-one years ago)

lots of straight whiskey when you feel like you might be coming down with something works very well.

lauren (laurenp), Sunday, 8 August 2004 18:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I am doing this right now (smoking that is).

Anna (Anna), Sunday, 8 August 2004 18:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I am sick right now, I wonder if smoking would help?

Leon Czolgosz (Nicole), Sunday, 8 August 2004 18:19 (twenty-one years ago)

it certainly can't hurt.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 8 August 2004 18:20 (twenty-one years ago)

i tend to recommend lots of whiskey no matter what the situation, come to think of it.

lauren (laurenp), Sunday, 8 August 2004 18:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I went to a party after getting over a nasty case of bronchitis, and smoked an entire pack in about six hours. I think I did some kind of permanent damage, as I've never breathed quite as well since.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Sunday, 8 August 2004 18:45 (twenty-one years ago)

so cold

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 8 August 2004 20:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Ugh yeah, do that way too often - smoking with headcold/throat infection is bad bad bad but I cant help it sometimes (I'm not that hooked that I *have* to smoke, but sometimes I cave).

I cant push myself to any parties or going out when sick though - I really am too sick too! Heh.

Chreiysy (trayce), Sunday, 8 August 2004 23:20 (twenty-one years ago)

er can someone check on Slocki?

Gear! (Gear!), Sunday, 8 August 2004 23:21 (twenty-one years ago)

i am going to the doctor soon

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 9 August 2004 15:15 (twenty-one years ago)

smoking tends to make me sick.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 9 August 2004 15:15 (twenty-one years ago)

thank you for your concern gear

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 9 August 2004 15:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Ask if you can smoke in the waiting room. "But the chairs are so comfortable in here!"

Huck, Monday, 9 August 2004 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

it's strep throat people!

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 9 August 2004 18:28 (twenty-one years ago)

StreptoCOCKus!

Huck, Monday, 9 August 2004 18:35 (twenty-one years ago)

for heaven's sake

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 9 August 2004 18:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Strep's what put me off smoking forever!

Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 9 August 2004 18:41 (twenty-one years ago)

the second you toss your cigarettes 'cause you're just too sick to smoke is the second you start getting better.

dyson (dyson), Monday, 9 August 2004 19:02 (twenty-one years ago)

sigh

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 9 August 2004 19:03 (twenty-one years ago)

nah, the second you toss your cigarettes 'cause you're just too sick is the second your lungs start expelling the rancid brown globs of saturated tar-slime that's been building up on your bronchioles in evermore painful hacking coughs. but you wouldn't get better without it.

cis (cis), Monday, 9 August 2004 19:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I've been looking for a good excuse to quit. Who wants to be quittin' buddies with me?

Huck, Monday, 9 August 2004 19:20 (twenty-one years ago)

it's not too hard. I quit inhaling a month before I stopped smoking, so when I actually did put 'em down I didn't miss them one bit. I never have the urge now, not at all, and I was still buying smokes a month ago.

Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 9 August 2004 19:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I would like to start again.

adam. (nordicskilla), Monday, 9 August 2004 19:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I would at least like a cigar right NOW.

adam. (nordicskilla), Monday, 9 August 2004 19:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I am sick, too. But in the belly, not the throat.

adam. (nordicskilla), Monday, 9 August 2004 19:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I am sick with in the wallet. Smokes is like $11/pack here.

Huck, Monday, 9 August 2004 19:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought Canada was supposed to be liberal!

adam. (nordicskilla), Monday, 9 August 2004 19:26 (twenty-one years ago)

it is scandinavian-style tax-the-harmful-luxuries liberal!

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 9 August 2004 19:28 (twenty-one years ago)

didn't you quit, huck? i guess not.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 9 August 2004 19:29 (twenty-one years ago)

How is canada with...you know...nudity?

adam. (nordicskilla), Monday, 9 August 2004 19:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Meanwhile healthcare and guns are free, wtf?

xpost, I quit for a few months. Then I got bored of being quit. Such a lame reason to start smoking again. But the buzz I was getting from withdrawal went away, and I was seriously bored. Nothing to regulate my mood/circulation.

Huck, Monday, 9 August 2004 19:30 (twenty-one years ago)

there's a nudity tax

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 9 August 2004 19:31 (twenty-one years ago)

How is canada with...you know...nudity?

Two words: wind chill
(though I think it's actually one word)

Huck, Monday, 9 August 2004 19:32 (twenty-one years ago)

WTF I'm cancelling my flight!

adam. (nordicskilla), Monday, 9 August 2004 19:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, in the mid-90s, the Supreme Court (of Ontario) said that it was unconstitutional not to allow women to go topless.

Huck, Monday, 9 August 2004 19:33 (twenty-one years ago)

actually the funny thing is quebec has a rather enlightened movie-rating system where violent films are much more likely to be rated adults-only than movies with nudity and/or sex in them, unlike the weirdo perverse mpaa

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 9 August 2004 19:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Which is weird, because in Quebec, it's a lot harder to get your hands on a gun and thus impressionably imitate a violent scene from a movie, but it's very easy to get your hands on boobies.

Huck, Monday, 9 August 2004 19:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Particularly if you are a woman.

Huck, Monday, 9 August 2004 19:38 (twenty-one years ago)

ha ha - that's why montrĂ©al was #1 on my favourite cities list¡

dyson (dyson), Monday, 9 August 2004 19:52 (twenty-one years ago)

i've been smoking too much. my jowls are sore. i need to stop.

|a|m|t|r|s|t| (amateurist), Monday, 9 August 2004 19:53 (twenty-one years ago)

just stop butting your cigarettes out on your jowls!

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 9 August 2004 22:56 (twenty-one years ago)

(you have jowls?)

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 9 August 2004 22:57 (twenty-one years ago)

The best remedy for a cold in the bronchial area for me has always been to smoke some good weed. I'm serious.

jim wentworth (wench), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 00:55 (twenty-one years ago)

i still feel like shit

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 13:50 (twenty-one years ago)

i haven't eaten since friday

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 14:02 (twenty-one years ago)

What about ice cream and jello?

Huck, Tuesday, 10 August 2004 14:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Vicodin!

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 14:37 (twenty-one years ago)

it is also no longer fun to wake up every morning in a pool of sweat the exact shape and size of my body

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 14:40 (twenty-one years ago)

you can build those yourself with materials from home depot.

|a|m|t|r|s|t| (amateurist), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 14:51 (twenty-one years ago)

when i did smoke i used to switch to either Ultra Lights or Menthol lights. otherwise i would get chest rattling coughs that sounded like an undisciplined army trying to fight its way out of my lungs.

Anthony (Plato Guy), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Get better soon Slocki. As a long-time smoker who has had bronchitis (and smoked) and strep (and, surpise!, smoked) my advice is to get some nictotine gum or patches - it will reduce your recovery time considerably.

Michael White (Hereward), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 15:23 (twenty-one years ago)

thanks michael! (unfortunately gum is out for me as i have a "gum" infection as well! feh!)

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 15:24 (twenty-one years ago)

And stop smoking smack too, k?

Michael White (Hereward), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 15:28 (twenty-one years ago)

ok DAD

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 15:29 (twenty-one years ago)

try some vaporub. aside from making you breath more easily, the overpowering eucalyptus smell should dull you craving for smoke.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 15:51 (twenty-one years ago)

i should try that at work! or not.

|a|m|t|r|s|t| (amateurist), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 15:54 (twenty-one years ago)

do you sell smart drinks at raves?

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 16:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I wanna quit. Maybe I'll do what Gear did and just quit inhaling for a bit.

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I found it easy to stop smoking vaporub strangely enough.

Michael White (Hereward), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 16:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I wanna quit!

Huck, Tuesday, 10 August 2004 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

one month passes...
Why am I doing this?

Alba (Alba), Monday, 27 September 2004 23:16 (twenty-one years ago)

smoking or quitting?

jones (actual), Monday, 27 September 2004 23:52 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm doing it too

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Monday, 27 September 2004 23:53 (twenty-one years ago)

it makes you even more miserable, but it makes you feel tough too, like tom waits. in the long run, who's to say that a person's mental strategy against the cold virus isn't the most important one?

You've Got to Pick Up Every Stitch (tracerhand), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 00:46 (twenty-one years ago)

three months pass...
awful

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 01:32 (twenty-one years ago)

yes

LSD, called the aristocrat (ex machina), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 01:36 (twenty-one years ago)

i hate that nasty phlegm cough you get when you first light up

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 01:37 (twenty-one years ago)

great incentive to quit!

having to feed the addiction during heavy chest colds (already worsened, lengthened by the habit) helped me ask: "why am I doing something I no longer enjoy?"

9 years now - you can do it too

Paul (scifisoul), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 01:44 (twenty-one years ago)

two months pass...
oh the memories

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 2 April 2005 02:23 (twenty years ago)

two years pass...

Especially dud when you go out to the local shop and they've only got regulars instead of the lights.

James Mitchell, Friday, 22 February 2008 12:33 (eighteen years ago)

this is what menthols are for. it is like a minty week's holiday.

r|t|c, Friday, 22 February 2008 13:00 (eighteen years ago)

Yikes.

Utter dud. Right when you're doing it, SO bad when you're done.

B.L.A.M., Friday, 22 February 2008 14:57 (eighteen years ago)

My band is going out of town this weekend to play a few shows, and I was sort of looking forward to buying cigarettes, esp. since a) we'll be in cities where you can smoke inside bars, and b) my girlfriend won't be there to admonish me for it, but I've had a fucking sore throat all week, which means it's pretty much the worst idea in the world.

jaymc, Friday, 22 February 2008 15:09 (eighteen years ago)

just have a hall's at the same time, it's like d.i.y. menthol, i figure it equals out

Tracer Hand, Friday, 22 February 2008 15:12 (eighteen years ago)

Some nice mint tea with lots of honey and lemon to sip between drags will sort you right out.

Laurel, Friday, 22 February 2008 15:16 (eighteen years ago)

I just bought my first ever packet of nicotine lozenges. I'm not sick, but I am going out tonight with people who don't smoke, so I figured it's about time, I was supposed to quit at new year when I turned 30 the year 2000 when I turned 21 sometime after I'm dead

Colonel Poo, Friday, 22 February 2008 15:21 (eighteen years ago)

I am so happy that I don't smoke anymore.

roxymuzak, Friday, 22 February 2008 16:45 (eighteen years ago)

I've just started seeing an ex smoker (she quit five months ago), this'll make me cut down a lot, I reckon. I'd feel so guilty if I got her started again.
