I cannot spend any money until Oct. 1.

Okay, I'm making exceptions for the Dawn of the Dead and La Dolce Vita DVDs, and maybe a CD or two, but seriously, aside from that I won't be spending a dirty dime on anything extraneous until I've moved out of this fucking apartment. So this is the thread where people encourage me not to spend money and subsequently taunt me with everything I'll be missing out on until then.

(I'll still be spending money on social outings, but not much...)

Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 9 August 2004 03:30 (twenty-one years ago)

If youre not to spend money, dont go out. Not if it means going anywhere near bars or trains or petrol money or the like anyway!

I mean um, dont be a shut in or anything ;) Just do cheap/free things - picnics, go to the library, take up power walking... I dunno. Learn how to knit.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 9 August 2004 03:33 (twenty-one years ago)

My free time is limited essentially to the hours of 6pm to midnight on the weekends now, unless my weekend days free up. Which make it all easier! And those hours are going to be spent writing, like I am now.

And please, I knit like a motherfucker.

Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 9 August 2004 03:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I wish I could remember how to knit. I want a Dr Who scarf.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 9 August 2004 03:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I've already finished. Where should I send it?

I imagine a West Ham fan might make use of it

Bumfluff, Monday, 9 August 2004 03:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Woah! Thats cool =) What colour is it? It looks... brown, in that shot.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 9 August 2004 03:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, Gear, instead of encouraging you, I think we should form some sort of AA-style support alliance. I'm moving on Oct. 1 as well, and I need to spend less money as well, and I'm pretty bad at that. I just bought a six-dollar pack of smokes, for the love of God, despite the fact that I have $20 to get me through the next week. And don't even MENTION beer to me... I'll melt every time.

As it is, I plan to ride my bike to work for at least the next week. That's about 5 miles each way -- not too bad, but not something I'd usually consider if I weren't flat broke. And the week after that? That's when I'll be my weakest. I'll have some money, but not as much as I will think I do. I need help.

I feel your pain. I understand your problem.

Harold Media (kenan), Monday, 9 August 2004 04:02 (twenty-one years ago)

When faced with this issue, three things come to mind:

1) couch
2) hardwood floors
3) one bedroom

1) I want to give the couch a new home.
2) I want hardwood floors, not the sickly blue-gray color I have now.
3) Self-explanatory.

Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 9 August 2004 04:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I think you may actually be me. I have a love seat and a very large chair that require more of a living room than they're been given. I have a fairly pricey new dining room table with a glass top and mad style, sans proper dining room. I have blue-grey and green-grey checkered linoleum floors. There's no way to decorate that. And worst of all, I live in a basement. Not a "garden apartment," no, that would be *nice* compared to what I have. It's a fucking renovated basement. There's exposed ductwork down here. The windows are glass bricks with vents. It's like a scene from Brazil. You can't imagine a more depressing apartment.

Harold Media (kenan), Monday, 9 August 2004 04:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I know a girl who would liven that place up considerably.

Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 9 August 2004 04:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Unfortunately, I do not.

Harold Media (kenan), Monday, 9 August 2004 04:25 (twenty-one years ago)

She'd make fine use of that loveseat.

Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 9 August 2004 04:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, I have a girl who makes living here bearable, don't get me wrong. She's made fine use of the loveseat before, too (wink wink). That doesn't mean I don't need to move.

What city are you in, Gear?

Harold Media (kenan), Monday, 9 August 2004 04:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I need to do this too. Maybe I'll join in with Gear! and quit going on $300-per-trip spending binges at Target.

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Monday, 9 August 2004 04:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Los Angeles. Unfortunately biking to and from my jobs would take forever/result in my death.

Mandee, I told you to stop buying lamps at Target! I know they're nice, but enough is enough.

Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 9 August 2004 04:51 (twenty-one years ago)

and quit going on $300-per-trip spending binges at Target.

Once you have $300 to spare, though, this is an EXCELLENT thing to do.

And yeah, I couldn't bije to work in LA. Chicago is nice and 19-th century like that.

Harold Media (kenan), Monday, 9 August 2004 04:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm totally going to buy you a beer someday soon.

jaymc, Monday, 9 August 2004 05:24 (twenty-one years ago)

and quit going on $300-per-trip spending binges at Target.

oh god, there's a $50 cover charge for even walking in that place. and now that i only get to target twice a year, it's stupidly expensive.

good luck to both gear and hm, i suck at not spending money. i kid myself that it's just london's fault and not simply that i hardly make any money and go out 6 nights a week. sigh.

colette (a2lette), Monday, 9 August 2004 08:51 (twenty-one years ago)

1) couch
2) hardwood floors
3) one bedroom

So - you are moving into a one bedroom apartment with your female roommate? Have I missed a thread? am I allowed to be a cheeky wind-up merchant?

___ (___), Monday, 9 August 2004 08:59 (twenty-one years ago)

no, no, and yes!

Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 9 August 2004 15:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I am so broke. : /

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 9 August 2004 15:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm totally going to buy you a beer someday soon.

You have hit upon the one context in which I will allow talk of beer.

Harold Media (kenan), Monday, 9 August 2004 16:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude, don't start knitting, that shit's expensive!

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Monday, 9 August 2004 16:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I'm too poor to afford yarn.

Leon Czolgosz (Nicole), Monday, 9 August 2004 16:39 (twenty-one years ago)

six years pass...

Spending money would make me happy but it makes me unhappy to spend money.

blackcoffeeredsun, Wednesday, 2 February 2011 03:47 (fifteen years ago)

eight years pass...

Banáná hÉireann (darraghmac), Monday, 13 January 2020 00:40 (six years ago)
