Yesterday I adopted a cute little black & white, female kitten. She is 12 weeks old & is so adorable. She is currently called 'Midge' which is completely wrong for her, but I cannot decide what to call her. Her new housemate, an all black 12 week old male kitty is called 'mungo'!
So far I have considered
Phoebe
Molly
Soleil (solly)
Peppermint Patty

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 9 August 2004 12:04 (twenty-one years ago)

you have to call her Jerry if her friend's name is Mungo

kyle (akmonday), Monday, 9 August 2004 12:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I like Solly, that's pretty. :-)

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Monday, 9 August 2004 12:06 (twenty-one years ago)

ken c (ken c), Monday, 9 August 2004 12:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Goose. Call it Goose. Emma's brother's kitten was called Goose until his g/f bullied him into calling it Thomas.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Monday, 9 August 2004 12:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Well I would have called her Jerry, but it's a bit of a crap name really!

Well you would say that!!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 9 August 2004 12:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Mungo and Midge are a double act already too. Solly is a boy's name. I like Phoebe and Molly. Peppermint Patty is a bit long, so will only work if you like 'Patty' enough on its own maybe. Or 'Pepper[mint]', I guess.

Archel (Archel), Monday, 9 August 2004 12:08 (twenty-one years ago)

"Chutney Xpost" has got that 'Grand Champion Longhair 2001-2004' feel about it.

Molly is a dog's name.

If I ever get a cat it will be called Pyewacket after the black cat in Bell, Book and Candle.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 9 August 2004 12:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I like 'Ponsonby' like in Reggie Perrin, but not for a girl.

Archel (Archel), Monday, 9 August 2004 12:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Why is 'molly' a dog's name?

are any of those pictures actually your kittens?

i don't like phoebe, but that's mostly because of traumatic flatmate/'friends' events and because i was nearly called phoebe myself.

i like molly. or combine, for molly solly.

my favorite cat name was a friend that had a big tabby called machine.

Dude, I have just adopted a kitten, how the f@#k can that not be twee? You got a suggestion, then let's hear it!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 9 August 2004 13:30 (twenty-one years ago)

My friend's cat was called Food.

Archel (Archel), Monday, 9 August 2004 13:30 (twenty-one years ago)

What about 'cat face'?

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 9 August 2004 13:31 (twenty-one years ago)

can you call it solly without spelling it soliel? just wouldn't want to name a cat after punky brewster! (unless you called it punky brewster, of course)

xpost-- that can be your special name that you call it when you're cuddling. not for public knowledge!

colette (a2lette), Monday, 9 August 2004 13:32 (twenty-one years ago)

not sure what punky brewster is, but solly on it's own is ok!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 9 August 2004 13:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Call it Ravage.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 9 August 2004 13:33 (twenty-one years ago)

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 9 August 2004 13:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Wiley? (geddit?)

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 9 August 2004 13:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Name her after another type of animal! That's always funny! My ex-roommate had a cat called "Guinea Pig".

By the way, you can give a boy's name to a female cat. They don't mind...

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 9 August 2004 13:34 (twenty-one years ago)

'dave'

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 9 August 2004 13:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes! Call it Wiley! Seriously!

(Then get another one and call it Dizzee)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 9 August 2004 13:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Sophisticat.

I think it was Philip K Dick who had a cat called Magnificat. I like that - I don't know why.

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 9 August 2004 13:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Call it Markone

We used to be visited frequently by a white cat who we called Mr Fiddles. One day my friend and I made him a little red top hat out of card and string. Mr Fiddles didn't like the hat - but we made him wear it anyway.

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 9 August 2004 13:44 (twenty-one years ago)

'Xena'

'Newt'

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 9 August 2004 13:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Come to think of, Mungo and Midge ARE kind of silly names for two cats. Mungo was a dog, Midge was a mouse. And where the hokey is Mary?

You could call her by some colorful name that has nothing to do with black or white - like Scarlet or Baby Blue.

Or maybe some sort of pirate-like name? Or Captain?

or Charger? Or Champion?

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 9 August 2004 14:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, Sully is great!

I want a cat named C.K. Dexter Haven.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 9 August 2004 14:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Sully is a portly AFC Wimbledon player. Solly is part of a racist joke about the chinese.

How about "Lightning"?

Mehitabel

http://www.donmarquis.com/archy/

the song of mehitabel
By Don Marquis, in "archy and mehitabel," 1927

this is the song of mehitabel
of mehitabel the alley cat
as i wrote you before boss
mehitabel is a believer
in the pythagorean
theory of the transmigration
of the soul and she claims
that formerly her spirit
was incarnated in the body
of cleopatra
that was a long time ago
and one must not be
surprised if mehitabel
has forgotten some of her
more regal manners

i have had my ups and downs
but wotthehell wotthehell
yesterday sceptres and crowns
fried oysters and velvet gowns
and today i herd with bums
but wotthehell wotthehell
i wake the world from sleep
as i caper and sing and leap
when i sing my wild free tune
wotthehell wotthehell
under the blear eyed moon
i am pelted with cast off shoon
but wotthehell wotthehell

do you think that i would change
my present freedom to range
for a castle or moated grange
wotthehell wotthehell
cage me and i d go frantic
my life is so romantic
capricious and corybantic
and i m toujours gai toujours gai

i know that i am bound
for a journey down the sound
in the midst of a refuse mound
but wotthehell wotthehell
oh i should worry and fret
death and i will coquette
there s a dance in the old dame yet
toujours gai toujours gai

i once was an innocent kit
wotthehell wotthehell
with a ribbon my neck to fit
and bells tied onto it
o wotthehell wotthehell
but a maltese cat came by
with a come hither look in his eye
and a song that soared to the sky
and wotthehell wotthehell
and i followed adown the street
the pad of his rhythmical feet
o permit me again to repeat
wotthehell wotthehell

my youth i shall never forget
but there s nothing i really regret
wotthehell wotthehell
there s a dance in the old dame yet
toujours gai toujours gai

the things that i had not ought to
i do because i ve gotto
wotthehell wotthehell
and i end with my favorite motto
toujours gai toujours gai

boss sometimes i think
that our friend mehitabel
is a trifle too gay

We're going to name our next dog Dr. Claw, or maybe something big like Oliver Stone. Then, we could say, when asked as to his name, "Ollie... as in Oliver... Oliver STONE!" or "Ozzie... as in Oswald... Lee HARVEY Oswald!"
