Any interest in an NFL Fantasy League? Or is that just stupid?

Who'd be up for this? If we have at least, what, maybe eight teams, is that enough? Responses will decide.

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Monday, 9 August 2004 16:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I could see maybe doing this, but then again I always lose interest/get too busy.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 9 August 2004 16:30 (twenty-one years ago)

What is a Fantasy League? Is that where QBs invoke ancient dragons and...blah, never mind. Sorry.

Huck, Monday, 9 August 2004 16:32 (twenty-one years ago)

CFL stats don't count.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 9 August 2004 16:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow, an ILX football thread that's not about soccer. Color me game. Caveat: I might get too busy to attend to this for a full season.

Mr. Tony Plow (Leee), Monday, 9 August 2004 21:46 (twenty-one years ago)

And Yanc3y + blount to thread.

Mr. Tony Plow (Leee), Monday, 9 August 2004 21:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm game.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Monday, 9 August 2004 22:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh god don't suck me into this vortex I still think Deion & Bo are in the league STOP IT NO!

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 9 August 2004 22:53 (twenty-one years ago)

mookieproof (mookieproof), Monday, 9 August 2004 22:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I would do it! First pre-season game tonight, w00t!!

(I watched like 5 minutes of it)

Monetizing Eyeballs (diamond), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 00:42 (twenty-one years ago)

My brother and I (and some family members) are starting a league, and anyone who wants to join is invited. It's on Yahoo at http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com; the league name is The League They Couldn't Kill, and the password is chainsgillespie. I've set up the draft for Sept. 4 (Saturday) at 10 a.m. CST. This could change, but you could always just do pre-rank and autodraft the way I probably will.

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 01:33 (twenty-one years ago)

http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com is the correct thing, no semicolon allowed or necessary apparently

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 01:35 (twenty-one years ago)

and you have to enter 359895 for the league, not the name, geez could I make any more mistakes around here I think not.

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 01:39 (twenty-one years ago)

bump

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 13:27 (twenty-one years ago)

oh hell yeah

cinniblount (James Blount), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 13:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm definitely in.

I was about to join the ilx Brit football fantasy league yesterday, but this suits me much better.

mcd (mcd), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 13:32 (twenty-one years ago)

no, mcd, do BOTH LEAGUES!!!!!

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 14:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I signed up for the American league. NY Eye & Ear Control is my team. For those joining, I should point out when you follow the link above http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com you need to click then on the "free league". I got confused there.

mcd (mcd), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 14:10 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah i did too

cinniblount (James Blount), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 14:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm in!

adam (adam), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, I joined both the American and Brit versions of Fantasy Football. I have a rich fantasy life.

mcd (mcd), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

SleepingWithBienemy reporting to camp.

Mr. Tony Plow (Leee), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 20:13 (twenty-one years ago)

last year i said harrington to rogers would be the new manning to harrison, i was wrong. this year it will be harrington to williams.

keith m (keithmcl), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 23:31 (twenty-one years ago)

that's the spirit!

with Kevin Jones rattling off 80 yard TD runs to boot!

Monetizing Eyeballs (diamond), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 23:49 (twenty-one years ago)

or Harrington to Rogers.

mcd (mcd), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 01:44 (twenty-one years ago)

o come on - change it back to head-to-head

cinniblount (James Blount), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 11:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Head-to-head is sexxxy AND inspires more shit-talking, which is an U&K component of fantasy shenanigans.

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 11:56 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah! otherwise it's like you're playing golf

cinniblount (James Blount), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 11:59 (twenty-one years ago)

im in...i've managed to finish first 3 out of 4 years in my other league so you all are doomed. Let the shit talkin commence! FUCKERS!

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 12:00 (twenty-one years ago)

mcd (mcd), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 12:23 (twenty-one years ago)

So is anyone else sick of the whole "T.O." hype yet? I don't even want to turn on ESPN anymore I am so sick of that guy.

I just can't wait until the Eagles D is giving up 400 yards a game and the pouting begins.

earlnash, Wednesday, 11 August 2004 14:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Totally. We will see with TO, I have a feeling it's going to be an odd pairing, he and McNabb. At least they got a real receiver though.

mcd (mcd), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 14:19 (twenty-one years ago)

T.O. may be chagrined to find out that Philly fans are not nearly as laid back as Niner fans--and that it's McNabb's team, not his

mookieproof (mookieproof), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 14:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Good riddance.

Also, the draft starts at 8am PST. AARGH.

Mr. Tony Plow (Leee), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 19:11 (twenty-one years ago)

get yr ass some coffee, Tony, it's a Saturday morning, you can draft in yr pajamas.

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 19:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Terrell Owens gives some fascinating and potentially inflammatory answers to questions posed by Playboy in the September issue of the men's magazine that will hit newsstands Friday.

The most controversial answer from the Eagles' newest receiver was about Jeff Garcia, his former teammate and quarterback with the San Francisco 49ers. Owens was critical of Garcia's ability before and after he left the 49ers, but Playboy's question was not about the quarterback's on-field performance.

The question: Jeff Garcia "has denied media rumors he's gay. What do you think?"

Owens' response: "Like my boy tells me: If it looks like a rat and smells like a rat, by golly, it is a rat."

mookieproof (mookieproof), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 19:29 (twenty-one years ago)

the worst part of this is the idea that Terrell Owens, in addition to being an egotist and apparent homophobe, uses the phrase "by golly."

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 19:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Not like homophobia (and egotism for that matter) is a stranger to pro sports.

I want to watch the game where he alligator-arms a pass down the middle.

Mr. Tony Plow (Leee), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 19:48 (twenty-one years ago)

i hope denver cuts bradlee van pelt so he can get picked up by another team and have a shot at playing. jake the fake will be hurt by week four and then there's the tough choice between danny kannell and matt mauch, yikes, surely van pelt has more upside than either of those stiffs.

keith m (keithmcl), Saturday, 4 September 2004 04:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Sleeping With Luca Brasi!

David R. (popshots75`), Sunday, 5 September 2004 01:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Corey Dillon being ranked down in the pack is a bonus pick for me. I think he could have a big year in NE. If he gets out of line Belicheck will knock his block off.

I like Belicheck, he looks like what a football coach should look like...he hasn't slept in a week and lives off coffee, bourbon and being surly. I just can't get with the Bill Walsh clean cut guy with the cardigan sweater kind of thing or the hyped up motormouth kind of guy like Gruden. Andy Reed is cool, I like coaches that look like they should be working in a muffler shop.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Sunday, 5 September 2004 05:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Red Stars -- Communist Plotters?

Farve, Shawn Alexander, T-Owens and Derek Mason on the same squad?

Criminy...I guess I have to hope that the loco Farve shows up that throws for five interceptions.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 17:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Derrick Mason gets namechecked like he's a superstar?

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 17:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Mason is the main target on the Titans, who seem to have a pretty good QB.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 17:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Checking it out, Mason went to the Probowl last year for the AFC. He's pretty good.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 18:01 (twenty-one years ago)

the Red Stars are my

Earl Nash (earlnash), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 18:17 (twenty-one years ago)

derrick mason was a rock for me last year. never flashy, never gaudy, but rock f'ing solid every week.

cinniblount (James Blount), Friday, 10 September 2004 02:42 (twenty-one years ago)

i also like how yr kicker is currently scoring more than my number one back fucking hell

cinniblount (James Blount), Friday, 10 September 2004 02:43 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah blount if you wanna concede anytime, that's fine

actually I made that move earlier tonight, dropped her second kicker elling. I didn't see much of the game but what did thornton do wrong?

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Friday, 10 September 2004 03:23 (twenty-one years ago)

he has having some trouble adjusting to the new marvin harrison rule, he finally got called on it

cinniblount (James Blount), Friday, 10 September 2004 12:52 (twenty-one years ago)

any given sunday....

...or, blount, MONDAY NIGHT

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Monday, 13 September 2004 14:44 (twenty-one years ago)

what's crazy is todd heap is probably the second best fantasy te and there's a 66 point differential between him and gonzo (who's first obv.)(esp. after this week - jesus christ).(actually looking again check the scoring on both of those - wtf???)

i lost 200 bucks saturday, primarily becuz of motherfucking notre dame. i will be watching tonight's game with great interest, if only for 'pride' (my interest will not begin to approach the knights gm).

meanwhile - quentin griffith - steal of the draft, stud, etc. why did i think 'if he's got the titan's starting job that's good enough for me' and yet blink at 'if he's got the bronco's starting job that's good enough for me'????? so happy alex gibbs (no relation to j!ll g!bbs, my sixth grade paramour who stephen hammer informed at the time was a 'lezzie' to which my response was 'is not! take it back!' even though neither of us had the faintest clue what a lezzie was) is now the falcons o-line coach: good good good.

cinniblount (James Blount), Monday, 13 September 2004 15:36 (twenty-one years ago)

alex gibbs' continued employment is proof that the nfl is entirely without morals or good taste.

i still think the broncos'll suck. their defense ain't all that; jake fucks shit up regularly; they got no receivers; i dunno why but i still doubt their 1,000-yard factory. jets = for real, tho.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Monday, 13 September 2004 15:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I always had to defend the honor of the mom of next door neighbor and sixth-grade paramour, k!m s@tt3r, against "lezzie" allegations. they were true though, as i figured out later. still and yet. small-town oregon in not firebombing open lesbian couple with five kids between them in the late 1970s not-really-shockah!

griffin a steal yes. will the 5'7" sparkplug/fireplug keep it up all year or get squashed like a bug? only time, and my fantasy team's numbers, will tell. my wide receivers are for shit and this new atlanta offense that gives mike vick NINE RUSHING YARDS IN A WIN can toss its own salad though. between him and byron sandwich, my team (which will be named for a different adam ant lyric every week) is gonna have a long year methinks.

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Monday, 13 September 2004 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

is clinton portis built for 30 carries a game?

mookieproof (mookieproof), Monday, 13 September 2004 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know the score, but I know I got stomped considering how T.O. and Alexander played.

How about Cleveland taking B-More out and it not being even close. That has to be the most interesting win of the first week, considering how many talking heads think the Ravens can win it all. Personally, no matter how good their D might be and it hasn't been as good the past two years as the Superbowl season, that QB and the fact that J.Lewis is possibly going to end up in jail, I doubt they make the playoffs.

It is a bit too early to tell, either the Steelers have really improved in stopping the run or Oakland has no running game at all.

I'm still bummed that the Colts blew it on Thursday. It sure doesn't look like NE defense was nearly as wicked as last year other than causing turnovers. James fumbling twice is pretty rare, he is generally pretty good at keeping the ball.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Monday, 13 September 2004 18:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Washington would be wise to not overuse Portis in the first half of the season. Their backup Laddell Betts looked pretty good in a couple of games last year before the Skins completely gave up on Spurrier. Washington looked pretty solid against TBay, they need to score touchdowns instead of field goals, but their defense is going to be very good.

Minnesota did what they wanted against Dallas' D. That cannot be a good sign for Cowboy's fans. The Vikes seem to be the best team in football either the first week or last week of the season and never all the way through.

Did anyone see the Lions/Bears game?

Earl Nash (earlnash), Monday, 13 September 2004 19:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Sure did. Pretty putrid football all the way around. Luckily tho, my beloved gridiron gladiators, the men from Detroit who don the Honolulu blue and silver, were able to prevail. Thanks largely to a Paul Edinger field goal blocked and returned for a TD. But on the downside, Chuck Rogers is out for the season, hurt in the Leo's first offensive series. Of course, he was also being counted on to be my top fantasy wideout, so I'm in a double world of hurt.

Only thing left to do is watch Longwell boot 3 or 4 field goals in a losing effort tonight, so I can increase the hurtin' I'm putting on Yanceypants while ensuring the Leo's remain in a two-way tie for first with Minny.

Ah, it's great to have the NFL back.

Reed Moore (diamond), Monday, 13 September 2004 19:31 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, my team has pulled the collective bed-shittin in week one. wish i had made the draft on-time so motherfuckin rudi johnson wasn't my no. 1 pick!

CAN ANYONE STOP TEH RED STARS??

Ouch to the Knights having the week off.

And by golly, my team's actually competitive!?@

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Monday, 27 September 2004 15:11 (twenty-one years ago)

roy williams(the lions version) is off to an unbelievable start especially since joey's specialty is still the 4 yard toss to the back. 8-8 looks like a real possibility, woo hoo. if they were in the afc west they'd win the division.

keith m (keithmcl), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 02:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, Keith, thank you. I'm pleased to see you have noted that I am a beast in the making. I am a top 5 elite receiver in the NFL right now, no question.

Roy Williams Highlight (diamond), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 03:56 (twenty-one years ago)

The first quarter of the Colts/Packers game was the most fun I have had watching a game in a while. I wish teams could air it out like that more often.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 04:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Your post above, Earl Nash, re. Gannon was pretty prophetic. What the hell kinda fucking idiot QB puts his head down like that when he's obviously not going to make the first down? A QB with a broken neck.

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 04:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Gannon has been doing loco things like that forever, he is just 38 and can't get away with it any more. My college roommate was a Viking fan, so we followed the early exploits of Gannon and I remember seeing him play in KC. In many ways, I can't believe that crazy mofo ever turned into a probowl level player.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 04:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Whom should I start at QB this week? Warner vs. Dallas, or Aaron Brooks vs. the Bucs?

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Friday, 8 October 2004 15:58 (twenty-one years ago)

too dangerous, bench 'em both, esp if you're playing against me

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Friday, 8 October 2004 16:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Warner! He's on a roll. Plus you gotta believe that Tampa will bear down and win a game here eventually. The defense looked pretty good against Denver.

Leeee, we should get together to watch the games when we play each other. Whenever that is. I seem to only square off against members of the Cibula family. I've been playing Cibulas for like four weeks in a row.

Roy Williams Highlight (diamond), Friday, 8 October 2004 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

No worries Begs, I'm up against the Red Star juggernaut, I just want to put up a respectable point total.

Broheems, yeah, I had Warner pencilled in. Now I have confirmation. Also, we're h2h in week 13. PLAYOFF MADNESS.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Friday, 8 October 2004 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

no surprise, mojo, there are EIGHT cibula teams total. i guess we kind of ruined the league, huh? OH WELL.

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Friday, 8 October 2004 16:17 (twenty-one years ago)

last weekend was awesome, all eight teams were in one house as my brother and his wife and three kids were staying with us. MUCH trash was talked, much Madden was played.

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Friday, 8 October 2004 16:18 (twenty-one years ago)

two months pass...
T.O. has to take a T.O. for the rest of the season. I can't say I am broken hearted and besides it will be more interesting to see if McNabb can win the whole thing on his own.

The playoffs should be interesting this year, as the NFC is completely open outside of the Eagles and the AFC having so many very good teams. SD looks like a very good all around team. NE is a bit banged up, but they don't lose. The Steelers have a good D, a great running game, a rookie QB and has beaten NE. Manning and the Colts offense may be the best ever. The NYJ are also pretty good. I'd like the Falcons chances, but every time I see Vick play he fumbles the ball four or five times and throws two interceptions. How they end up winning is beyond me.
