A slice of wisdom from the Clash there (Death or Glory).

But what does it mean?

Is it true?

Talk about nunfucking here.

gramps, Tuesday, 10 August 2004 01:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought this would be anthony.

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 01:04 (twenty-one years ago)

x j e r e m y (x Jeremy), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 01:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmm

--------, Tuesday, 10 August 2004 13:23 (twenty-one years ago)

there would be more nuns there, presumably.

g--ff (gcannon), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 13:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Christian nuns?

They're already married to Jesus.
He can't really join the Church as he's already kind of important.

So...it doesn't work.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 13:26 (twenty-one years ago)

"he who eats eggs, will later go to a farm"

g--ff (gcannon), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 13:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I could never tell what the fuck Strummer was singing here.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 13:27 (twenty-one years ago)

He can't really join the Church as he's already kind of important.

Of course, important people CAN join the Church. That is an RUBBISH argument. So maybe you're right after all.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 13:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Isn't it like, you will eventually embrace the very things you once despised? Although I guess there had already been some embracing going on...

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 13:31 (twenty-one years ago)

the nuns might have invited him. but when he got there, they might have been uncomfortable.

g--ff (gcannon), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 13:35 (twenty-one years ago)

isn't the Church Jesus' body on earth, or something?

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 13:36 (twenty-one years ago)

At least I now know what Steve Kilbey and Marty Willson-Piper and all were doing in their earlier days.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 13:41 (twenty-one years ago)

"He who fucks nuns will later join the Church"? Isn't that kind of like "Once you've had black, you'll never go back"?

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 14:20 (twenty-one years ago)

It sounds like a Spanish Civil War reference to me, i.e the young soldiers on the Republican side who demonstrated their hatred of the Catholic Church by fucking (raping) nuns, became respectable and religious in later life.

Joe Kay (feethurt), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

That's very interesting, thank you.

gramps, Tuesday, 10 August 2004 15:16 (twenty-one years ago)

That's a complete guess about it being specific to Spanish Civil War, but the gist of the meaning seems fairly clear

Joe Kay (feethurt), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 16:06 (twenty-one years ago)

More footage here.

ned trifle (Notinmyname), Tuesday, 26 May 2009 12:06 (seventeen years ago)

Are they looking for nuns, or joining a church there?

Mark G, Tuesday, 26 May 2009 13:36 (seventeen years ago)

I glanced at this news story online yesterday, the headline was British "Nuns" Arrested in Greece, and there was a picture of those guys. At first I didn't notice the scare quotes, so for a moment I was like damn, British nuns look kinda weird!
