Open plan office and all, but working these hours, how am I going to find the time to get it done otherwise?

So I am doing. Don't think he will take quite as kindly on my timing of working on it though...

No-one seemed to mind though. The advantage of been the only Westerner in an office here is that people don't mind you playing by a totally different set of rules. No-one else here would ever dream of doing a CV at work.

now if only i could find the office stash of posh paper, the deception would be complete!

There are more people completing job applications & CVs in my office at the moment than there are doing actual work.
Using ILX as a skiving mechanism has meant that my CV is terribly out of date, I should have updated it in the recent downtime.

I am doing this right now.

Timeline--
May: "Hey bossguys, I'm gonna be taking some summer classes in July. I'll be needing Mondays and Tuesdays off, but I can work any other day of the week whenever you need me. Graveyard too, if it comes to that."
Two Weeks Ago: "Hey bossguys, just wanna remind you that I've got those classes coming up in a couple weeks and I'll be needing Mondays and Tuesdays off."
Today: "Hey bossguys, I see that you've scheduled me to work tomorrow (Monday). I'm working on finding someone to fill in for me, but just out of curiousity, where communication break down here?"
Bossguys: "If u don't come in tomorrow u fired."
lol fuck bossguys rly

Is it OTT to describe myself as an "ersatz night auditor"?
― BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Sunday, 8 July 2007 23:22 (eighteen years ago)
I will be printing this out on the office printer.

I once typed up a nice flowery resignation letter while at work. My supervisor came over and saw me and we had a discussion about whether this was correct use of company time and concluded it wasn't. But I finished off anyway.

Good man.

I once watched a coworker do that ("I can no longer work at a place where violations of state health code are rampant and guest security & satisfaction are less important than the bottom line").
It was very satisfying.

The store shut down a month after I left so I missed out on around £500 in severance pay. I don't like my life.
The man is not nice.
― jim, Sunday, 8 July 2007 23:35 (eighteen years ago)
Oh yeah, doing this is classic. I found I was even able to use the office fax machine to send out resumes. I had a couple of close calls, though.

BIG HOOS are they for real? would they seriously fire you? cuz that's sick, dude. i've had bosses like that before, and i've just called the bluff - which is risky, but kinda worth it too.
― Rubyred, Sunday, 8 July 2007 23:53 (eighteen years ago)
There's a new guy here who has a history with this boss, worked under him for years elsewhere. On a couple of occassions he's insisted that bossman will not hesitate to fire someone if he doesn't think they're doing their job.
Thing is, Bossman's just pissed cause everyone (everyone BESIDES me) has been calling in for various reasons lately. Out of the seven staff members working up front right now, four have been here less than three weeks and they've all been calling in.
He's sick of it and is taking it out on me, the most senior Guest Rep. Truth is, if he's gonna be enough of a dick to take out his frustration at other staffers on MY paycheck, I don't wanna work for him anyway.

exactly. but it's hard sometimes when you don't have other means of paying the bills. hope your cv gets you a new job soon.
― Rubyred, Monday, 9 July 2007 00:18 (eighteen years ago)
lol bossman's gf just walked past in her typically provocative outfit and goes "working hard?"
― BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Monday, 9 July 2007 00:20 (eighteen years ago)
Hospitality Industry my ass! I should be able to bigotedly abuse anyone I want for my $60 a night.
Seriously, man, if this guy doesn't open his eyes soon, jet outta there.

"Hard, yes. Working? You tell me."
― Oilyrags, Monday, 9 July 2007 00:22 (eighteen years ago)
Given my amount of time in the business and the relatively menial nature of the work, I don't expect it to be hard to find another place. These guys that I'm with now hired me during my interview.
Just got paid this past Friday and I've already found a Holiday Inn (for whom I've worked before) that's hiring, so I'm thinking I'll be lucky this time.
― BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Monday, 9 July 2007 00:23 (eighteen years ago)
do it. fuck ya boss, he deserves to be left high and dry.

better to be venting your *workplace frustrations* on the interwebs rather than at your actual workplace!
― Rubyred, Monday, 9 July 2007 01:16 (eighteen years ago)
As long as I don't vent on myspace or facebook, I am in the clear.

I really wanna call the boss back and try to make him see how utterly wrong he is here.
He's firing me for missing a day that I told them I'd need off two months ago; he's keeping on the brand new people that are asking for vacation time and randomly not showing up after they've been here two weeks.
He's firing the guy that he and everybody else here come to when they have questions about the functions of our software. I get more positive comment cards than anybody else. I've been here longer than anyone else (including him!), and consequently I know how to do my little job better than anybody else here.
If he wants people that he can rely on to work, he needs to realize that I've been reliable every day for nearly 2 years now. These new people have not.
I really want to call and tell him all this shit, but then I remember that this job isn't worth fighting for.

AND I KICK OUT HOMOPHOBES DAMMIT
― BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Monday, 9 July 2007 02:33 (eighteen years ago)
Hey it looks like I'm in the clear, found a guy to cover part of the shift for me tomorrow.
I'm still doing interviews at these other places though. Seriously, after getting this gambit pulled on me? Fuck this place.
― BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Monday, 9 July 2007 02:56 (eighteen years ago)
i know what it's like; you think eventually they'll see that you're actually a valuable staff member to have around, but they won't. screw him and get yourself a job where you'll be appreciated at least a little more.
