So what exactly do indie kids wear on the beach? The world wants to know.

hmmm..., Wednesday, 11 August 2004 13:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Cut off jeans.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 13:17 (twenty-one years ago)

plum smugglers

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 13:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Tight denim cut-offs if they're dudes.

Baby-blue high-cut bikini bottoms with those lame tankini things on top if they're girls. Most indie girls have serious emo butt, so they wrap a towel or two around their ample asscushions.

x j e r e m y (x Jeremy), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 13:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Anything plaid and long enough to cover up their blindingly white skin.

dave225 (Dave225), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 13:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I always wear football shorts = I am not indie. Perhaps I am Britpop?

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 13:19 (twenty-one years ago)

emo butt???

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 13:20 (twenty-one years ago)

my skin's not white = i'm not indie?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 13:20 (twenty-one years ago)

at the beach after Siren Fest (pretty indie) I saw some indie-ish looking dude in speedos.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 13:20 (twenty-one years ago)

emo butt is my uncle-in-law's name!

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 13:21 (twenty-one years ago)

You are not married to a butt, Adam.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 13:21 (twenty-one years ago)

i wear tight fitting nob revealing swimming trunks. the girls get a treat at swimming pools.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 13:22 (twenty-one years ago)

it could be an uncle-in-law on the mother's side.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 13:22 (twenty-one years ago)

My cousin's partner wore a pair of ultra tight speedos during our holiday this year. I almost puked in the pool.

Penelope_111 (Penelope_111), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 13:23 (twenty-one years ago)

(emo butt xpost) Emo butt is a phenomena best sighted at (now) Shins and Sufjan shows. It describes an average - though never thin - waisted girl with a large posterior. Emobutter girls, or grrls, always wear deep blue or indigo denim with pink/black leather-belts carrying lines of rivets or studs which accentuate the fucking hugeness of their asses.

x j e r e m y (x Jeremy), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 13:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I suddenly want to go to indie rock shows again.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 13:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not a fan of the sarong approach on the beach. It does scream "I HAVE A LARGE ARSE" more than just grinning and bearing it would.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 13:27 (twenty-one years ago)

ha! otm

Penelope_111 (Penelope_111), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 13:27 (twenty-one years ago)

yeh

dog latin (dog latin), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 13:28 (twenty-one years ago)

grinning and bareing.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 13:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I've been thinking of wearing a sarong.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 13:29 (twenty-one years ago)

At the beach this summer I've noticed a really distrubing trend. All the teenage high school normal/jock-y guys wear huge shorts with their boxers showing underneath. And they swim in them. WTF?

Magic City (ano ano), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 13:29 (twenty-one years ago)

(I do have a big ass for my size, but I'm comfortable with that)

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 13:30 (twenty-one years ago)

The beach is not an indie environment, so there is no such thing as indie beach fashion.

Bela Lugosi's Dad, Wednesday, 11 August 2004 13:32 (twenty-one years ago)

But please feel free to post pics and prove me wrong.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 13:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Or just post pic of indie girls with big asses.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 13:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Pic 1 is proof that the beach is not a natural indie environment.
Pic 2 is hot but not remotely indie.

Pic 2 is an "indie triangle bikini" from FigLeaf!

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 13:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Sarongs? I have never seen anyone, wearing one.

Indigo Denim? That is new to me.

the dreamfox, Wednesday, 11 August 2004 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm imagining Sisqo doing "The Sarong Song".

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

If it feels so right how could it be sarong?

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 17:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm with the no-indy-beach rule. They might roll up their pant legs at bit and take their converse off, but they're not getting wet.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 17:31 (twenty-one years ago)

i wear black boardshorts that tie in the front and have a ziplock pocket sewn into the left leg.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 17:32 (twenty-one years ago)

This indie-girl I used to know wore an exta layer of clothing at the beach. I told her "two sarongs don't make it right".

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 17:36 (twenty-one years ago)

One time I saw Julie Andrews at the beach. She was singing, "Sarong, farewell, auf wiedersen, goodbye."

na (Nick A.), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 17:37 (twenty-one years ago)

MAKE IT STOP

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 17:37 (twenty-one years ago)

What's sarong, oops?

na (Nick A.), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 17:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Not a thong, na. Not a thong.

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

This is bikini-ing to make me feel ill.

na (Nick A.), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 17:41 (twenty-one years ago)

indie /= GenCon

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 17:55 (twenty-one years ago)

The "somethimes y" rule can really screw things up--wait, is that a Ned Flanders button-down?

sexyDancer, Wednesday, 11 August 2004 17:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Is that guy supposed to be Indiana Jones or Tom Waits?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 18:56 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a fine line between the two, to be honest.

Allyzay Science Explosion (allyzay), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 18:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Tom Waits for no man

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 18:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Indy Rock and the Temple of DOOM

sexyDancer, Wednesday, 11 August 2004 18:59 (twenty-one years ago)

one year passes...
Back to the indie-kids beachwear issue...

Roxy black board shorts with multi-coloured polka-dots and matching bikini or tanki top/ red board shorts with plain black bikini/tankini top- is what I wear... but I'm pretty emo, and not in an emo-butt kinda way :P
Talking of summer clothes in general, I prefer winter stuff but black/blue denim mini skirts (they do for the beach too) or cut-off jeans are good too, along with one of a selection of multi-coloured tank/vest tops.
In terms of shoes I wear converses mainly, but dolly shoes are cool in the summer as are those little converse-style velcro coloured dollys. Flip-flops do for the beach, but only in bright colours.
Black mixed with bright colours, denim and polka-dots are an emo girls dream!

Hope that clears some things up, now comence with the anti-emo comments.
- Zoe

Zoe, Wednesday, 3 May 2006 14:20 (twenty years ago)

How about anti-flip-flop comments?

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 14:40 (twenty years ago)

hahaha Zoe what is "emo-butt"????

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 14:42 (twenty years ago)

read one thread!

Is it me, or does that girl posted up thread sort of resemble me?

(Major difference: I would never wear a Clash shirt!)

tokyo nursery school: afternoon session (rosemary), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 15:50 (twenty years ago)

It's not just you

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 15:50 (twenty years ago)

PHEW thank goodness I don't have any studded belts.

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 15:52 (twenty years ago)

I do, however, have a FAN FUCKING TASTIC swimsuit from mybabyjo.com. Have I mentioned? I know I promote the hell outta it, they oughtta give me a free one. Mix w/ selection of wrap skirts & Tshirts for travel to/from beach.

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 15:54 (twenty years ago)

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 15:59 (twenty years ago)

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 15:59 (twenty years ago)

Jimmy Mod is a super idol of The MARS SPIRIT (The Famous Jimmy Mod), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 16:00 (twenty years ago)

Laurel plz to explain why every nice dress on that website is out of stock :(

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 16:00 (twenty years ago)

I am going to check out the clearance two pieces at Target today

(even though I have two suits from last year that I never wore at all, I still sort want the suit with cherries on it)

tokyo nursery school: afternoon session (rosemary), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 16:03 (twenty years ago)

oh no, I have worn dark denim with studded belts, do I have emo-butt????

tokyo nursery school: afternoon session (rosemary), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 16:04 (twenty years ago)

Allz: I dunno but I'd hazard the guess that it's because everyone wants sundresses in the springtime? Try stopstaringclothing.com, too -- they cross-stock a lot.

JtM: Because I would not look like that in it. Also becuz triangle-tops are not useful for anything but lying on the beach and screeching about getting splashed by boys playing water frisbee.

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 16:06 (twenty years ago)

(i found that gis-ing for "emo pants" - are they emo bikinis? i don't even know. i probably would not wear them. and yeah, triangle tops... for home-use only.)

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 16:13 (twenty years ago)

They are perhaps ever so slightly rockabilly in "artistic" "inspiration"? Not so much in execution.

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 16:15 (twenty years ago)

oh my god. that Bernadette dress is incredible!

sunny successor (katharine), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 17:06 (twenty years ago)

sunny successor (katharine), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 17:07 (twenty years ago)

White collars = not for me (I will look 13) but the PENCIL SKIRT IS!

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 17:22 (twenty years ago)
