kelsey (kelstarry), Thursday, 7 July 2005 20:43 (twenty years ago)

Only a dick would have Thin Red Line out from Netflix that long and NOT watch it.

I Named Veal (nordicskilla), Thursday, 7 July 2005 20:47 (twenty years ago)

you have to keep the film out for at least as long as it lasts. which is quite a long time.

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 7 July 2005 20:51 (twenty years ago)

i kept soylent green from netflix for like 3 mos.

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Thursday, 7 July 2005 20:53 (twenty years ago)

Haha, Adam. I never have time to watch movies. Or maybe I don't feel like it. I'm probably not the best candidate to have a Netflix subscription. And yet...

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 7 July 2005 21:00 (twenty years ago)

Anyway, Thin Red Line, yeah, I hear such good things, but the prospect of watching it always seems like such a chore. I think, oh great, it's like 10 hours long. And then I think, oh great, it's about war. And then I have to tell myself, Terrence Malick made it, it can't be that bad. And, lots of people I like and respect like it, too! Okay. And there are some amusing cameos from famous people, you like famous people, right? One day, Adam. One day.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 7 July 2005 21:02 (twenty years ago)

I really don't think it is that hard to watch.

I Named Veal (nordicskilla), Thursday, 7 July 2005 23:33 (twenty years ago)

no, it's very good. a pleasure to watch.

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 7 July 2005 23:36 (twenty years ago)

i always do this with movies, wait forever, think about them too much. thin red line though, ten minutes in and you'll be down.

jergins (jergins), Friday, 8 July 2005 03:03 (twenty years ago)

Just skip/fastforward to the long grass blowing in the wind scene it is the best since Tom Jones

sandy mc (sandy mc), Friday, 8 July 2005 09:35 (twenty years ago)

best Long grass blowing in the wind scene is surely in Tarkovsky's "mirror".

jed_ (jed), Friday, 8 July 2005 09:50 (twenty years ago)

four weeks pass...
Haha I just tried playing The Thin Red Line (FINALLY) and found that the DVD has no sound track. Seriously. WTF.

jaymc (jaymc), Sunday, 7 August 2005 23:11 (twenty years ago)

What a horrible movie!

Dr. Glen Y. Abreu (dr g), Sunday, 7 August 2005 23:20 (twenty years ago)

hahaha

Wait... you're joking, right?

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Sunday, 7 August 2005 23:55 (twenty years ago)

hm, i can understand that someone would dislike it - it's a bit portentous and precious as well as being badly cast to an extent.

jed_ (jed), Monday, 8 August 2005 00:07 (twenty years ago)

No I'm not joking...

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 8 August 2005 00:09 (twenty years ago)

I figured at first it was Malick-esque stillness and silence -- lots of pretty shots of nature -- and then I fast-forwarded to a part with actors, and Sean Penn's mouth was moving but nothing was coming out.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 8 August 2005 00:10 (twenty years ago)

Oh wait unless you guys mean Dean...

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 8 August 2005 00:11 (twenty years ago)

that's what i was responding to.
