Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch's War on Journalism

I'm kind of surprised ILX has't mentioned this movie much yet. Who has seen it?

I've always known Fox News to be quite unreliable, and when watching I find myself much more interested in the neat graphics and the sensation as opposed to the opinions and facts they report on.

Even if the film itself seems very one sided and is a type of propaganda in it's own way, I think the overall message about the importance of diversifying the media is a very good message.

As a side question, where does the news you trust the most come from?

my mum.

*raises hand*

It's worth watching, but like most of the current wave of political documentaries there's not a whole lot there that I found surprising or informative. "Fox is a tool of Murdoch and cozies to conservative interests? I'm shocked SHOCKED"

I don't trust any of the news - best you can do is eat a healthy diet of different information and hope for the best.

No news is good news

although actually i would say ILX! because it's here that topical stories get dissected and translated so well and it's here i spend most of my time. because of things like John D v Momus and Tombot v whoever I'm able to read between lines better - to the point where it feels like 98% of the news is just pure fabrication for the sake of media sustenance.

This is why I decided not to see it. I doubt it would have something to say that I haven't heard already.

Other than yr mum or ILX, what more professional news agencies do you find or think of as the most trustworthy? like C-Span, Associated Press, PBS, etc?

A Nairn (moretap), Thursday, 12 August 2004 11:33 (twenty-one years ago)

BBC

I think the only programmes worth watching on BBC re political news are Newsnight, This Week and Question Time i.e. not the actual news bulletins.

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Thursday, 12 August 2004 11:42 (twenty-one years ago)

The news bulletins are now utter utter crap, all amateur dramatics and hand wringing/waving from reporters and the same stupid graphics which we all used to laugh at on "The Day Today" and "Brass Eye"

Dadaismus (Dada), Thursday, 12 August 2004 11:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Elvis, where did you catch it already? Has it hit the art-hour circuit out here ? I think it still may be fun to watch, esp. if you have any conservative, Fox-fan friends you can forcefully drag with you to see it...

as much "crap" as CNN might be / probably is, i still find myself respecting a handful of reporters there, namely Aaron Brown, Daryn Kagan and Candace (?) ThatchickwhodoesDay_Break. And the morning weatherman (the tall one) is so hott! (But there's another thread for that; I know, i know i'm the one who started it)
