I don't know abuot "chavs", but w/charvers, the n e england equivalent of neds, you do get the odd older one, but they seem to tail off in their early twenties.

In the last few weeks, the whole "chav" look seems to have taken off up here to the point that the majority of people of a certain age group one sees in the shopping mall or wherever are now dressed chav-style, so as a signifier, it has recently become MEANINGLESS.

Yes, because as we all know, it's ILLEGAL and WRONG to like, or indeed find any affinity with, any music made before one's birth. Someone I used to work with years ago once expressed incredulity that I even knew who The Who were, let alone actually listened to and liked them. I find this stance bizarre.
