Los Angeles FAP, Saturday the 21st -- Sunset Junction, and welcome Jeremy!

Sent around an e-mail but to followup here -- core of the FAP will be what Arthur has suggested on another thread:

" I'm DJing at Akbar on Fountain and Sunset on the Saturday of Sunset Junction, Aug. 21st. It's the Donnas/Ashford & Simpson night. I have the early shift, 7-10:30, so I'll probably be playing more rock-ish dance stuff since I dont' really get the chance on a usual weekend night. Everyone come down! There'll probably be plenty of people over 25 on this particular night. And it's usually free."

Will be meeting up with Chaki at his job at some point beforehand, will otherwise have the afternoon open. Sunset Junction info in general:

Post thoughts, ponderings etc. here!

Wow! You're turning Hell's Angels on us!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 13 August 2004 04:15 (twenty-one years ago)

well, it's just a 200cc old honda (much to my biker dad's dismay). plus i'm gonna paint it all cutey-pie and launch a new breed of cutie biker gangs that ravage the city with over-sensitivity.

So whois in? I might be wandering around on saturday..

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 17:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry. I missed this. I'll be there both days, but I can't say for certain how long. I'm going to try to not spend the entire day in the Junction, because I don't want to die of liver poisoning like last year. Also, SPARKS IS FORBIDDEN.

dean? (deangulberry), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 18:38 (twenty-one years ago)

You're fired.

At this point I really have no idea how much time I'll actually spend doing stuff at the Junction itself, but I need to talk to a few folks first.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 18:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Im debating picking up the subway on hollywood and western and hiking in. or maybe even just walking in from there. parking be damned.

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 18:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Sounds wise enough. You're at Hollywood and Western or near it? You're not too far off from other LA ILXors...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 18:54 (twenty-one years ago)

no.. i live on the westside actually. a friend of mine lives in that area and i figure ill just park at his place.

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 18:58 (twenty-one years ago)

watch out. that friend is a grabby drunk.

dean? (deangulberry), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 18:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm in on this in theory, but I can say for certain at what time. I also want to go see Them! at the Egyptian at 5pm, and Grimble Grumble that evening at The Smell.

However all of this will be canned if I don't make more headway in moving my stuff out of the apartment.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 19:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Didn't realize Grimble Grumble were back in town! Most cool. Let me know what your plans are as they develop, Elvis; right now I'm going to float up there sometime early afternoon, I figure.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 19:11 (twenty-one years ago)

If I'm in town this weekend I'll be at alot of this. The bands I really like are playing early, but I'll stay because the people watching can't be beat.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 20:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I am going to go to Supersonic first - I think Saturday is the last day. Will then try to get me and my friends to Akbar.

Lukas (lukas), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 21:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Supersonic is kinda MEH.

But when you're there, there are a few video monitors near the restrooms in the center of the exhibit. MAKE SURE TO WATCH THE COSBY SHOW ONE. It is AMAZING.

dean? (deangulberry), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 21:32 (twenty-one years ago)

hater! i believe in the healing power of student art.

Lukas (lukas), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 01:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I do too. I was actually looking forward to it, but found that it didn't seem very original or impressive. Also, I was bothered by the lack of skilled paintings.

dean? (deangulberry), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 01:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Err, I can drive anybody provided they provide rather specific directions from Western, and that my car's arrived in LA by Saturday.

x j e r e m y (x Jeremy), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Is it somewhere in a train in the Midwest as we type?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 15:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Hopefully. The place I sent it through was (in retrospect) terribly cavalier about the paperwork and shipment location. It's possible that my li'l Toyota's somewhere in Juneau, or stripped for parts in Baton Rouge.

x j e r e m y (x Jeremy), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 15:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Eep!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 15:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Hi

Vic (Vic), Thursday, 19 August 2004 08:16 (twenty-one years ago)

NED - Kuci.org is acting all funky. You responded to my emails, and presumably got them, in reverse order! I just sent ya another - and I have good news: I am now working from 9:30 to 6 on Saturday, so _can_ attend the Arthur Party FAP, meaning you probably _can_ crash on le couch. Okay? I just thought I'd post this here, since I know even if you don't read/recieve email, you do read every singly post in ILX-land

This is not 100% as you could have guessed with how flaky the work ppl are, but I do hope to attend. Maybe Spencer Ch-0w will dance with me this time.

Vic (Vic), Thursday, 19 August 2004 08:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh and speaking of unanswered 3m4ils Mr Ch0w hehee

Vic (Vic), Thursday, 19 August 2004 08:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey Vic, sorry about that, I'm still debating whether to drive up north tomorrow. However, it's looking less and less likely. In other Sunset Junction news:

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 19 August 2004 19:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Well I don't read EVERY post, Vic. ;-) But I did catch that one and thanks for the update! Plans will come together as they do.

As long as we're using the thread for public updates -- Jeremy, I'm sure you caught my earlier mail, but give me a call tonight if you can, anytime after 7 pm, say.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 19 August 2004 19:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Hi, Ned, sorry my cell phone's off. It should be back on by Saturday. Yeah, sure, you can stay over. I'm not sure how late I'll be staying out, though. I'm DJing till 10:30, I think. Oh, no, I'm competing with Timmy the Terrror!

Spencer, I hope you come, I will be playing Annie and Alizee and I don't know if anyone else will care.

Arthur (Arthur), Thursday, 19 August 2004 22:30 (twenty-one years ago)

No worries, Arthur, sounds like Vic has it covered now, but one way or another it'll work out. Thanks! You'll be playing Annie? Good, a chance to hear her in a fine context.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 19 August 2004 22:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm in town and will be at this, I'll figure out when to meet everyone. Ned has my celly#.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 20 August 2004 23:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Yus indeed. Actually I haven't heard from Jeremy himself since early in the week! Worse comes to worse I'll get there under my own steam, though.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 20 August 2004 23:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay Ned is IT on? It is 2:13 AM Saturday morning, I am low on sleep, just got home for the first time since this going to work this morning and have to go to work in a few hours but I AM going to Ralph's at this hour just to get some AJAX since aOMG YOU CANNOT SEE MY MOLDY BATHTUB IN ITS PRESENT INCARNATION - SO I GUESS THIS IS G00D THAT U ARE COMING BECAUSE IT IS MOTIVATION TO FINALLY CLEAN MY BATHTUN SINCE NOVEMBER 2003 BUT I MAY BE LATE AND NOT GET THERE UNTIL 8 OR 9 PM SINCE I ALSO HAVE TO GO TO FUCKING T MOBILE AFTER WORK SINCE MY RELATIONSHIP WITH VERIZON IS OVER, DID YOU HEAR THAT YES IT'S OVER FUCK OFF VERIZON GOODBYE MOTO (ROLA) I HATE YOU I'M GOING TO "GET MORE" NOW BECAUSE MICHAEL DOUG;AS' BITXH S0LD IT TO M3

Vic (Vic), Saturday, 21 August 2004 08:17 (twenty-one years ago)

i cant wait to show you my new phone though! whats amusing is that i have to carry ariound BOTH the motorola and t mobile phones since im trying to keep the same # and the transfer may not happen for up to 7 days - so i have to carry both around since they don't know when the transfer will happen! I THOUGHT TECHNOLOGY WUZ SUPP0S3D T0 B3 SM4RT WTF

Vic (Vic), Saturday, 21 August 2004 08:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Can someone please advise on the best way to get there via MTA, for today/tomorrow? I don't want to face the parking situation like last year. (I've never taken MTA in that part of the city. Where's a good place to park, and then get on a bus or rail?)

morris pavilion (samjeff), Saturday, 21 August 2004 15:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Looks like you want route 4 eastbound, which goes down Santa Monica Blvd to the Sunset intersection. I'm not sure if they are diverting all bus traffic or not on the day, but that intersection is what the folks at the Sunset Junction site specifically suggest in their directions on the website. The 2 could also serve the same purpose as it comes down on Sunset.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 21 August 2004 17:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Akbar itself is 4356 W. Sunset, (323) 665-6810.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 21 August 2004 17:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay, just checked with Jeremy and left a message for Vic on at least one of his cell phones. ;-) Right now the vague plan on my end was to try and swing over to Sherman Oaks to visit Chaki at his store -- if that falls through, I'm planning on sticking around Hollywood first at Amoeba and then from there over to Sunset Junction. I figure showing up early to see Arthur before he starts DJing at 7 pm could be fun but obviously there's no set plan here -- people will appear as they appear! Hope to see folks there!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 21 August 2004 18:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey Ned, my cell phone is on again. I should be at Akbar around 6:30 or so. I'm skipping the Junction today. Most of the bands I want to see are tomorrow.

Also, as far as I can tell from the e-mail they sent out, there is no cover charge at Akbar this weekend. I'll be in the room to the left when you walk in the door.

Arthur (Arthur), Saturday, 21 August 2004 20:55 (twenty-one years ago)

FAP great, Jeremy's a prince of a feller. Rah!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 22 August 2004 15:50 (twenty-one years ago)

A late report: This was the most fun I'd had at an LA FAP. A bit cramped, though. Next time less blabbing, more dancing! Chaki and Jeremy and Lolita, it was great to meet you.

Arthur (Arthur), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 02:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I danced! You are the greatest DJ in the world as you played "Galang" *and* Annie!!!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 02:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, that was my most ILM moment. Thank you! I'm sorry you missed my Sister Janet Mead/Siouxsie/Al Jolson segue, though!

Arthur (Arthur), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 02:47 (twenty-one years ago)

whoa!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 02:49 (twenty-one years ago)
