The All New Scottish Football Predictions Competition

Will the league be over by Christmas? Will the passports be back in the drawers by November? Can Caley win any of their 38 away games? Here's your chance to demonstrate your prowess, knowledge and jammyness all in one scintillating predictions thread.

How it will work:
Every Monday I will post a list of fixtures for the following weekend along with criteria for point scoring, special bonuses, etc. All predictions must be made the day before the first fixture (i.e. Friday). Midweek games will be dealt with when they come around and I'll most probably wing it.

What you have to do:
Predict the score in every SPL fixture posted. 3 points will be awarded for every correct result plus 2 bonus points for a correct score. A special award of 3 points will be made every time to successfully predict the Old Firm to drop points.
Each week there will be special bonus rounds (e.g. number of red/yellow cards, total goals scored, number of penalties awarded, etc.) where you can get lucky and gather some valuable points.

There will be occasional bonus rounds with random shit that I think up when I'm supposed to be working.

I realise it's a bit late for this week's fixtures so I'll accept entries up until midday tomorrow (UK time).

Fixtures for this weekend:
Sat Aug 14 2004
Hearts v Aberdeen 15:00
Kilmarnock v Celtic 15:00
Motherwell v Hibernian 15:00
Rangers v Livingston 15:00

Sun Aug 15 2004
Dundee Utd v Dundee 14:00
Inverness CT v Dunfermline 15:00

Bonus: By surname, who will be alphabetically first and last to score? 5 points for each. Squad lists available at www.google.co.uk :-P

Onimo (GerryNemo), Friday, 13 August 2004 11:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Predictions: Celtic & Rangers fans will be the usual bigoted SCUM of the earth.

cºzen (Cozen), Saturday, 14 August 2004 08:13 (twenty-one years ago)

League - Setanta innit. The idea of Huns signing up to this makes me larf.

Dave B (daveb), Saturday, 14 August 2004 08:26 (twenty-one years ago)

gah setanta bollocks. I'm gunna have to go to the games, then. europe: itv (champ league) & bbc (uefa)?

Onimo's connection is down at the moment, but any more last minute takers? 5 minutes from now, Wk 1 of the prediction league closes.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Saturday, 14 August 2004 12:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Closed.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Saturday, 14 August 2004 12:17 (twenty-one years ago)

wait. are there any (premiership inc.) matches live on telly (sky inc.)? what rubbish!

cºzen (Cozen), Saturday, 14 August 2004 12:21 (twenty-one years ago)

kilarnock 2 - celtic 3, half-time. what?!

cºzen (Cozen), Saturday, 14 August 2004 13:44 (twenty-one years ago)

We'd already been 1-0 then 2-1 down by that point. The horrorof listening to it on the radio rather than sitting with a pint in the pub watching it was agonising.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 14 August 2004 16:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I remember reading that the PPV deal only happened for home subscribers, whereas pubs got it for nothing....obviously Saturday 3pm games won't be televised live anyway. Has the BBC got a highlights package?

scotstvo (scotstvo), Saturday, 14 August 2004 16:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, but not until Monday night.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 14 August 2004 16:31 (twenty-one years ago)

this is just plain rubbish. who goes to the pub?

cºzen (Cozen), Saturday, 14 August 2004 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, I do, though the chances of me doing it specifically for Invercally vs Dunfermline are probably slim to none. And balls to watching the Old Firm match in the boozer too. So is it Tam Cowan's show that's giving us highlights, or do we get a feast of football that night?

scotstvo (scotstvo), Saturday, 14 August 2004 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a proper show. It was on last Monday? Did you not notice the season kicked off last week?

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 15 August 2004 08:38 (twenty-one years ago)

it's on over 'without a trace'. I'm a sucker fr all those gleaming, shiny cop-show iterations = I won't see it bah!

cºzen (Cozen), Sunday, 15 August 2004 08:50 (twenty-one years ago)

A-ha! Instead of worrying about where to watch the SPL last week, I was sunning it up at the Benicássim festival instead. I'll look forward to Monday though!

scotstvo (scotstvo), Sunday, 15 August 2004 09:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Fixtures and bonus round for week 2 to be posted tomorrow.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Sunday, 15 August 2004 15:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Like everyone who doesn't support an Old Firm team, I propose we call the league over now and crown me champiest.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Sunday, 15 August 2004 16:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Champiest predictor for one week - reminds you of all those seasons when Hibs linger around the top 3 for a few weeks then drop like a fucking stone eh? :-P

Onimo (GerryNemo), Sunday, 15 August 2004 18:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Hibs in the top 3 usually means the Huns are 4th. I'd have thought you'd have been applauding that?

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Sunday, 15 August 2004 18:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Weekend fixtures:
Sat Aug 21 2004
Dundee v Motherwell 15:00
Dunfermline v Aberdeen 15:00
Hearts v Kilmarnock 15:00
Livingston v Dundee Utd 15:00
Rangers v Hibernian 15:00

Sun Aug 22 2004
Inverness CT v Celtic 14:00

Bonus Round: For 10 points, how many penalties will be awarded?

Onimo (GerryNemo), Monday, 16 August 2004 09:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Dundee 2-1 Motherwell
Dunfermline 0-1 Aberdeen
Hearts 0-0 Kilmarnock
Livingston 1-2 Dundee Utd
Rangers 4-0 Hibernian
Inverness CT 2-2 Celtic

3 penalties, at least one for Rangers.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Monday, 16 August 2004 10:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Dundee 1-1 Motherwell
Dunfermline 1-0 Aberdeen
Hearts 2-0 Kilmarnock
Livingston 0-0 Dundee Utd
Rangers 2-0 Hibernian
Inverness CT 1-3 Celtic

2 penalties.

Alex Rae ban for 5 European games - that's the rest of his life isn't it? :-P

Onimo (GerryNemo), Monday, 16 August 2004 17:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Dundee 1-2 Motherwell
Dunfermline 0-1 Aberdeen (Jimmy Calderwood to be exceedingly smug at full-time)
Hearts 3-1 Kilmarnock
Livingston 1-2 Dundee Utd
Rangers 2-1 Hibernian
Inverness CT 0-4 Celtic (though in a just world it would be about 0-8, bastards, grumble grumble etc).

One penalty (for Rangers, obviously)

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 16 August 2004 18:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Just watched that awful Scotsport SPL highlights show, complete with token "crowd" - one supporter from each club plus a football crowd background to make it look busier.
Fans opinion slot was brilliant - Rangers fan thinks Rae was harshly treated SHOCKAH! Killie fan thinks Lilley was harshly treated SHOCKAH!

Oh, and Brebner's sending off was a scandal btw - just thought I'd mention that to please aldo :-P

Onimo (GerryNemo), Monday, 16 August 2004 22:00 (twenty-one years ago)

How what happened? I'd read there was an insinuation of hands raised.

(Nae SPL show in Eng-ger-land)

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 08:19 (twenty-one years ago)

(My interpretation) From what the camera caught he raised his arm to the side in a dismissive manner to shoo the 'Well lad away - looked to have clipped his shoulder or maybe his neck. The Well player spun away clutching his face as if he'd been hurt and the ref deemed it worthy of a 2nd yellow card.
You also got your assistant manager sent off for kicking a water bottle. Tony Mowbray said he's kicked hundreds of water bottles and wasn't aware of a rule against it.

(Nae SPL show in Eng-ger-land)
Trust me, this is a blessing. Surprisingly the Setanta coverage has been fairly good. Certainly as good as, if not better than, the Beeb's efforts last season.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 09:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Tony Mowbray said he's kicked hundreds of water bottles

I'm amazed, I'd have thought he was second favourite to reach all of them.

< investigates what Setanta costs >

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 09:53 (twenty-one years ago)

"It's shite being Scottish! We're the lowest of the low. The scum of the fucking earth!" - Rentboy 1996 - just after Scotland last won a friendly at Hampden.

You'd think that being a bit of a right-back in his day Bertie Vogts could get at least that position right. Gary Fucking Holt?! When the fuck did he ever play right back?

Total pish. It's so bad I've started nodding my head when Charlie Nicholas speaks.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 20:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Pish pish pish pish pish pish pish.

I had to watch England in the pub (who were fucking appalling, frankly - as everyone at the bar agreed) so missed the spectacle thankfully.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 19 August 2004 09:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Were Scotland playing last night or something?

Dadaismus (Dada), Thursday, 19 August 2004 09:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh Christ, 3-0 to Hungary, who are FUCKING SHITE!!!!!!!! Funnily enough, whenever I explain my theory that Scottish football may be in permanent decline, Hungary's the parallel I always bring up.

Dadaismus (Dada), Thursday, 19 August 2004 09:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Can I say in Scotland's defence that one goal was a dodgy penalty, one was a cracker that would have graced any game, and one was an own goal that I am quite happy to excuse on the grounds that Pressley would have got to it had he not fallen on his arse due to nasty rainy (i.e. Scottish) weather.

All hate should be directed towards Andy Webster. He was rubbish.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 19 August 2004 15:52 (twenty-one years ago)

True, but... the dodgy penalty came as a result of dodgy defending, the peachy 2nd goal came as a result on NO defending, and the 3rd came as a result of a huge gaping hole at left back and a keeper thinking he had go go gadget arms.

Can I say in Scotland's prosecution that we did fuck all in the way of looking like scoring. Ever. Against Hungary.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Thursday, 19 August 2004 21:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Apart from that shot from Fletcher that the keeper saved near the end?

Also, Marshall does have go go gadget arms (see UEFA Cup quarterfinal against Barcelona last season). They obviously don't work in rubbish weather though.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 19 August 2004 22:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Aye, forgot about that - right above the keeper, easy tap over. There was another in the first half that was straight at him plus McFadden's 14 touches to get the ball onto his left peg before shooting from six yards.

We weren't that bad in the first half, but there was no cutting edge. According to Sky-Stats-Man every Scottish striker apart from McFadden has gone more than 6 games without a goal. It's showing.

That said, should anyone get upset about losing friendlies? We haven't been beaten at home in a competitive match since England won the Euro play off in 2000. Is that a stat that says "Sack The Manager"?

Onimo (GerryNemo), Friday, 20 August 2004 08:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Another two hours to go and only 3 entries for this. Without more interest it's as much fun as Jim Jeffries and Bobby Williamson at Jim McLean's house for a "penalties against us" debate.
I'll keep it up for another week or so and see how it goes.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Saturday, 21 August 2004 08:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Dundee 1-2 Motherwell
Dunfermline 0-1 Aberdeen
Hearts 1-0 Kilmarnock
Livingston 1-3 Dundee Utd
Rangers 2-1 Hibernian
Inverness CT 1-2 Celtic

No penalties

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Saturday, 21 August 2004 10:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Did you really actually think there would be any interest in this outwith the usual suspects?

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 21 August 2004 10:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought there were more usual suspects. Only 4 Scots on ILX interested in the SPL?

This week's now closed, cheers.

Apparently Gordon Strachan was asked on Football Focus if he would take the Scotland job and replied "I'm a Scotsman, how could I say no?"

Onimo (GerryNemo), Saturday, 21 August 2004 12:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I wuv Gordon Strachan. I don't think he'd improve Scotland much, but he'd be mightily entertaining when explaining exactly why we're not so good.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 21 August 2004 18:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Good week for me - don't ditch this just because no-one's playing...

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 22 August 2004 16:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Pre-season indicators are that Celtic are a load of old guff with no strength in depth at all. I am SCARED. I want to believe that playing McManus, Maloney and Wilson will make it all better (and losing Thompson and Camara would be a good start, so maybe it will be OK), but we're only one injury/suspension away from having Adam Virgo in the team. *hides behind sofa, wibbling*

Any top European spies watching that with a view to checking out possible opponents from the second-seeded pot for the Champions League will have been chuckling into their Parkhead pies. I may just go to the pub now and come back out in May when it's all over.

Channel Five's "excellent" coverage consisted of two former custodians of the Celtic managerial tracksuit talking pish, and a commentator so patronising to plucky little Celtic that they should have been on ITV during the World Cup. Grrrrrr.

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 22:01 (nineteen years ago)

Never mind, we're apparently in a RECORD EXCLUSIVE DOUBLE SWOOP for Timoshchuk from Shaktar Donetsk and the brilliantly named Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink. Only a cynic would point out that selling jerseys with those names on them would make a few quid :-)

Bah, I just tried to price it but the Celtic online store limits names to 10 characters.

Congratulations to the Murrayfield Maroons and all their supporters in stopping a wee team from "doing an Artmedia" (we'll never live that one down).

Congratulations to Archie Gemmell and his U19 team. Scotland in a final! A chance of a trophy to put next to the prestigious Kirrin Cup!

Onimo (GerryNemo), Thursday, 27 July 2006 08:45 (nineteen years ago)

Please note: unfortunately, due to some unresolved technical problems, we are currently unable to offer the minileague functions on Predictor.

Oh well, anyone wishing to join in and prevent me from getting a hat trick of titles, get on over to the Predictor home page and sign up.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Thursday, 27 July 2006 08:51 (nineteen years ago)

I tried to watch the Hearts game last night, but I've still not recovered from World Cup burnout.
I'm kind of astonished that the under 19s are doing so well. Can't see them beating Spain in the final, though, not after the Spanish cuffed them 4-0 in an earlier round.

Greig (treefell), Thursday, 27 July 2006 08:59 (nineteen years ago)

Is the under-19s game going to be on teh telly? Presumably on some variation of Eurosport. What are the chances of finding a pub showing it? It's not going to be on at the same time as proper SPL stuff, is it?

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 27 July 2006 19:20 (nineteen years ago)

BBC Two are showing it.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/internationals/5221720.stm

Greig (treefell), Thursday, 27 July 2006 19:34 (nineteen years ago)

Marvellous. I'll have been out of Parkhead for enough hours to be in the mood to watch another crushing disappointment! Hurrah!!

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 27 July 2006 19:38 (nineteen years ago)

Gretna's high profile first ever entry into European football is a tip to... Derry City. Hardly the San Siro, but small acorns and all that.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Friday, 28 July 2006 14:46 (nineteen years ago)

Me and my dad were just roffling on the phone at all the memories of the end of last season (yeah, yeah, a couple of weeks ago, I know) of when all the media were going on about Gretna fans dusting down their passports for their great European adventure. And now they'll be tootling down the road to the Cairnryan to Larne ferry and not even getting out of the UK. Ha!

I have brushed aside the memories of last-minute Craig Beattie equalisers scraping us a draw in an eight-goal "thriller" this time last year, and have gone for the Celtic win. And, true to form, I've gone for Rangers for the 1-1 draw.

Have we not signed anyone yet?

ailsa (ailsa), Friday, 28 July 2006 17:12 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, have you forgotten Derek Riordan, Gary Caldwell, Kenny Miller, Jiri Jarosik and Evander Sno?

Allegedly still incoming if you believe everything you read in the papers: Ivaylo Petkov (actual proper left back, it says here), Anatoliy Timoshchuk (midfield muscle) and Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink (big lad with a big name up front)

Onimo (GerryNemo), Friday, 28 July 2006 20:49 (nineteen years ago)

No, I haven't forgotten. I meant "have any of these people we're meant to be signing in time for tomorrow signed yet?" Stop being a pedant :-p

I'm allowing a large window of opportunity to let J-VoH put his full name to paper. I want to see a parade of new stars tomorrow. I do NOT want to see Alan Thompson or Adam Virgo.

Anatoliy Timoshchuk (midfield muscle)

No, I think you mean Anatoliy Timoshchuk, someone to stop Derek Riordan/Stan Varga being in a two-horse race for "worst haircut in the Parkhead dressing room".

ailsa (ailsa), Friday, 28 July 2006 21:43 (nineteen years ago)

Why is the Scottish season starting in July? Is this normal?

Teh littlest HoBBo (the pirate king), Saturday, 29 July 2006 11:34 (nineteen years ago)

I have no idea. It's the second year running it has started in July. If you read the start of this thread you'll see the first fixtures for 04-05 were on 14th August.

It makes sense to start early if there's a world cup at the end of the season or if you want to have a winter shutdown, Neither of these things is happening this season so I've no idea why we're starting early.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Saturday, 29 July 2006 21:09 (nineteen years ago)

Celtic were excellent today. As good a league game as I've watched in a long time. Great league debuts for Jarosik and Miller, the latter making all the "he can't play with his back to goal" experts look like the idiots we all know they are.

Still a few niggles with the back four. Mark Wilson is looking like a snip at £400k (how much better than Wilson is Ashley Cole - 60 times? hahaha) but McManus and Caldwell were far from convincing in the middle. Mo Camara had a great 60 mins before a mistake in the second half seemed to destroy any confidence he had. If we sign Petkov and get Balde fit I think we'll be ok.

Petrov should not be sold. He is the best midfielder in the country.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Saturday, 29 July 2006 21:19 (nineteen years ago)

Minileagues are up and running.

League Name: ILX SPL League

Onimo (GerryNemo), Sunday, 30 July 2006 11:43 (nineteen years ago)

Smashing. You can all laugh at my two points.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 30 July 2006 11:47 (nineteen years ago)

Caldwell was so unconvincing yesterday, I thought he was Adam Virgo.

Congratulations to Archie Gemmell's under 19 squad for a marvellous achievement and a short period at the end when I actually thought they might haul it back and go into extra time. Second best team in Europe. Yay.

(I love Mark Wilson, btw, and I'd already be backing him for player of the year if he didn't play in a totally unsexy position and it wasn't a Rangers player's turn this year)

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 30 July 2006 11:53 (nineteen years ago)

Hooray, I will be joint bottom with ailsa.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Sunday, 30 July 2006 11:56 (nineteen years ago)

Cool, I've signed up for the minileague. I seem to be joint top with 5 points at the minute. I might as well enjoy the glory while it lasts...

Greig (treefell), Sunday, 30 July 2006 15:41 (nineteen years ago)

Hi all. What's in the water in Scotland? The U19 team were exceptionally great last week, and beside them there seem to be a lot of talented, young players in the league (Celtic, Rangers, Hibs...). It's a pity that the Scots got such strong European Championship qualifying group, with Italy, France and the Ukraine.

zeus (zeus), Monday, 31 July 2006 17:51 (nineteen years ago)

In a nutshell, we have had a succession of managers who seem to have ignored any number of decent young players in favour of a bunch of past-it old blokes who play (read: sit on the bench) for either half of the Old Firm, or play in England (being as how the Premiership is the best league in the world and all, this apparently makes people who play in the lower down English leagues better than anyone playing for Aberdeen, Hibs, Hearts, etc). This has resulted in a slide down the world ranking as a result of not qualifying for any tournaments and by sliding down the rankings we fall down into lower-ranked seeding pots for qualifiers and then we get more good teams in our groups which means we get beaten more, don't qualify, fall further down the rankings, etc etc, vicious circle, blah blah.

I'm not sure how this is going to get better in this hellish qualifying group, but at least Walter Smith seems disposed to picking younger players (for the most part - we'll just ignore David Weir for the purpose of this argument)

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 31 July 2006 18:24 (nineteen years ago)

Well, as a Hungarian, I've got some experience in witnessing a nation's football falling down (both club and country level), so I think I understand it...
But, anyway, for me it seems that now Scotland has a crop of terrific youngsters - not just the U19 players, but Maloney, McManus, Wallace, Riordan, Burke, Naismith, Boyd, Scott Brown, O'Connor, etc. Though not living in Scotland, I can't see them playing week in-week out, so my question is: are they really that talented? Will they be international class players, like McAllister, McCoist, McClair, Gough, McStay were (not to mention more older players like Strachan or Dalglish)?

international class players, like McAllister

Hahahahaahahahahaahahaahahahahahahahaha.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 31 July 2006 20:54 (nineteen years ago)

??? He really was. Obviously he was the best of his generation from what I saw of him.

zeus (zeus), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 06:30 (nineteen years ago)

McAllister was a great player, but like so many others he never quite carried his form to international level.

Scotland's attacking options look great at the moment, with Boyd, Maloney, McFadden, Riordan, O'Connor, Burke, etc. all fighting for 2 or 3 places. If Smith can keep them playing as a solid defensive unit the way we did in parts of the last campaign I'm hopeful we can improve.

I don't think we have any hope of getting out of the qualifying group for 2008 but hopefully by the time the next WC qualifiers come around some of these guys will have fulfilled their potential. Boyd, Burke and Maloney in particular all look like they could be world class (depending how you define world class).

I remember you saying that once about Mark Burchill, so I'll reserve the right to be sceptical.

LIES

Onimo (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 08:38 (nineteen years ago)

Though he was a better player than anyone at Celtic ever gave him credit for. First touch was shocking, mind.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 08:39 (nineteen years ago)

It's great to finally see decent young talent coming through. It seemed like we were playing the same group of ageing not-quite-good-enough players for the last 10 years.
It's a pity that we landed up in such a difficult euro 2008 qualifying group, but at the very least we'll know if grounds for optimism are actually there - you couldn't get a much better test.
It feels kind of strange to have hopes for the Scotland team...

Greig (treefell), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 08:39 (nineteen years ago)

Thanks. As for McAllister, I first saw him at the '92 European Championship, where he was voted into the All Stars team of the tournament, and I really liked his style. Also he was in the UEFA Cup winning Liverpool at the age of 36, so I wouldn't say he didn't carry his form to international level - otherwise I wouldn't know him :)

zeus (zeus), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 08:42 (nineteen years ago)

The UEFA Cup is not "international level"

Onimo (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 08:43 (nineteen years ago)

and apart from the final, which was brilliant, Liverpool were painful to watch in that tournament.

THE CURSE OF BROON.

OK, but still there is Euro '92, where Scotland should have beaten Germany, and go through the semi-finals, they played absolutely magnificent, heavily influenced by McAllister - only the goals didn't come.

zeus (zeus), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 08:59 (nineteen years ago)

Some good fixtures this weekend - it'll be interesting to see how Celtic recover from travelling around the world getting humped. We were shocking at Tynecastle last season and it's a miracle we got 3 points there.

Possible appearance for Gers' new man (pictured this week in most of the papers posing outside the Celtic shop at the airport).

Will Gers fans be singing Wolverhampton Town?

Still shite. (you can decide amongst yourselves whether I mean my attempts at predicting, or Rangers)

What's with Falkirk actually winning at home, huh? Just when I'd decided to give up all hope of them ever doing so as well.

Also, Falkirk and St Mirren joint top of the SPL? WTF?

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 6 August 2006 08:44 (nineteen years ago)

I AM STILL WORSE THAN YOU.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Sunday, 6 August 2006 08:54 (nineteen years ago)

Marathon, not a sprint, blah blah...

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 6 August 2006 08:55 (nineteen years ago)

Er, yeah, marathon not sprint. Hearts for teh SPL. Neil Lennon for teh scrapheap, etc etc etc. Bah. Crisis-inciting clash at Parkhead next week against league-topping behemoths St Mirren. Thank fuck I'm out of Paisley for the weekend next weekend.

Did it look like flying to Japan and back during the week had any effect at all?

Dave B (daveb), Sunday, 6 August 2006 17:12 (nineteen years ago)

Ummm... because of the trip to Japan I got 3 points.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Sunday, 6 August 2006 20:49 (nineteen years ago)

I had the Celtic - Hearts match down as a 2-2. Close but no cigar.

Someone told me yesterday that Paul Telfer is Gordon Strachan's brother-in-law. That would explain a lot.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Monday, 7 August 2006 11:13 (nineteen years ago)

I can't find any googleable evidence to back this up except one bloke saying it on celtic quicknews. I suspect this is where your mate got it from. Wikipedia tells me Telfer *is* Eamonn Bannon's nephew though.

Radio Clyde "exclusive" today suggests Stephen Pearson is definitely off to Derby. Because obviously from the squad put out yesterday, we have plenty of strength in depth and can afford to get rid of him. Erm, wait a minute...

Anyway, he was brilliant before he (insert possibly libellous comment of your choice here), and he made my New Year's Day very happy indeed this year. And he looks a bit like Ally C.

I forgot in all my rage at how shite Celtic were at the back yesterday that their goal was very good indeed.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 7 August 2006 14:49 (nineteen years ago)

According to Graham Spiers' column in the Herald, Julien Rodriguez spent the summer reading Anna Karenina - "The next thing you know, Barry Ferguson, unhealthily influenced by this new rush of existentialism inside Ibrox, will be quoting Jean Paul Sartre to us at press conferences"

I live in hope.

this creeping pain that gnaws and fumbles and caresses one and
never hurts quite enough, no wut ah mean?
