Hilarious e-mails

Being in an office I get the usual round of classic and dud e-mail gags doctored JPGs, powerpoint presentations etc etc. Of course there have been a LOT of stuff about THE SITUATION. taliban, anthrax, bin laden -- all grist to some piss-poor joke mill somewhere along the interweb.

My question is largely to US ILE-ers, do you get these, and do you find them upsetting or not? A work colleague sent a 'funny' JPG to a number of people (as you do) including one person from the US and he was quite taken back with the sharpness of the response from this one person. i think he was a bit of a fool to do this, but really have you been upset by these things? Do you get them in quite the same number? (at a guess i was getting a dozen or so, plus many more website links, a couple of weeks back)

I got a bit pissed off with the Taliban/Bin Laden ones so I ended up asking a couple of friends not to send me those any more. But I've said it before and I'll say it again, the ones that really fucking get my goat are the "This is international women's friendship week, there is an angel watching over you, this is a virtual hug, send this on to ten strong women" ones. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGHHHHHH!

I did get pretty annoyed about all those Nostradamus and Sept 11th ones. Normally quite rational people were attaching "Now I'm really scared" messages to them! He made those predictions 100 years after his death, you know.

Can I be hugged by ten strong women?

I didn't really aim that too well did I. There's the issue of taste with these jokes. I mean it was actually pretty impressive that the interweb star-chamber in charge of jokes didn't get going straight away -- usually there's at least one gag within minutes of some news story. this time there was a gap of, what, a good 3 weeks? but that doesn't stop the fact that we end up with photoshopped images showing plane-proof twin towers, and other even more distasteful things.

i guess you could defend it as a legitimate way of dealing with it. but for a lot of people (the bereaved and directly involved) i imagine it won't relieve the intensity of the emotion involved.

Bloody hell, i've just re-read that. still i'm posting it anyway, so sod you.

i have seen none of these but I think this is because most of my friedns no that I would get very upset by them. I tend to have a sense of humour faliure when people make light of barbaric senseless killing. I do, however like good, satire steve bell and private eye being good cases in point

photoshop doctoring happens so fast now, grab the video still spend 30mins with the cut n paste.. .

strikes me as a bit a poor method of voicing anger with the recent events," i know, i hate bin laden I'll photoshop him, HA. " kind of displays people's media apathy..
