Ken, you are pretty fucking cute.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 20 August 2004 05:33 (twenty-one years ago)

someone's drunk.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 20 August 2004 05:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahahahahaha. no.

Andrew (enneff), Friday, 20 August 2004 05:34 (twenty-one years ago)

aw thanks jay! i think so too!

do you fancy yourself too? (p.s. post pics)

ken c (ken c), Friday, 20 August 2004 05:35 (twenty-one years ago)

it's a genuine question btw.. do you fancy yourself? do you hate doing it? or do you love yourself even more for it?

ken c (ken c), Friday, 20 August 2004 05:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Ken, you are really cute. You have the shiniest hair I've ever seen. It probably isn't helping that I tell you that.

I fancy myself quite a bit as well. Maybe that's why we get along so well.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Friday, 20 August 2004 05:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope I look all right. It's important to have some satisfaction in your appearance, isn't it? Otherwise we'd all get around looking like Michael Moore.

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 20 August 2004 06:04 (twenty-one years ago)

My confidence is largely a put-on with me. That's the thing. If you tell yourself you're awesome enough times, a tiny part of you will start to believe it just enough to get you over the self-hate or intense lack of self-confidence, etc. that you see when you look in the mirror each morning (other people start to believe it, too.)

I suspect it's like this with Ken, too, but he'll never cop to it on a public forum. Actually no, I think he does just think he's awesome, 'cause his anecdotes always somehow involve his catching a glimpse of himself in a mirror.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Friday, 20 August 2004 06:09 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm sure it's not healthy to fancy yourself. or is it?

On the upside, you don't need to spend money on porn.

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 20 August 2004 06:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess I am like that too in a way. I actually lack the confidence sometimes! I don't know how the nervousness gets instilled in me.

But every now and then, you know, I look in the mirror and I surprise myself! It'd be like wow I'm jealous of that guy I bet he gets all the girls. And then I realised that's me! And then I start trying to kiss the mirror.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 20 August 2004 06:14 (twenty-one years ago)

It's true. I've seen photo evidence.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Friday, 20 August 2004 06:15 (twenty-one years ago)

(the kissing the mirror bit is false)

ken c (ken c), Friday, 20 August 2004 06:15 (twenty-one years ago)

(alright, it's true xpost)

ken c (ken c), Friday, 20 August 2004 06:15 (twenty-one years ago)

This should be a picture thread, so others can judge whether we are right to fance ourselves.

There, see? I'm pretty cute & cool in a geeky way. I'd fuck me.

Jimmybommy JimmyK'KANG (Nick Southall), Friday, 20 August 2004 06:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Looking kinda moody there too = I'd probably be good.

Jimmybommy JimmyK'KANG (Nick Southall), Friday, 20 August 2004 06:35 (twenty-one years ago)

This thread was made for you, Mouthy.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Friday, 20 August 2004 06:38 (twenty-one years ago)

please someone not start a fancing your sister c/d

ken c (ken c), Friday, 20 August 2004 06:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm developing a reputation, aren't I? This wont do.

Jimmybommy JimmyK'KANG (Nick Southall), Friday, 20 August 2004 06:44 (twenty-one years ago)

jeez oh

RJG (RJG), Friday, 20 August 2004 06:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh look! There's RJG being snide at me again!

Jimmybommy JimmyK'KANG (Nick Southall), Friday, 20 August 2004 06:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Is that a livejournal avatar, Mouthy? Haw.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Friday, 20 August 2004 07:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Seeing as how I'm the person who has sex with me the most, it can't hurt for me to fancy myself.

Harold Media (kenan), Friday, 20 August 2004 07:08 (twenty-one years ago)

It is not, Roxy! I don't have a Livejournal, only a Blog. This photo is my Stylus profile thingamajig. (As was the other one with the swoonsome indieboy glow, before I replaced it with teh moody black&white.)

Jimmybommy JimmyK'KANG (Nick Southall), Friday, 20 August 2004 07:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Isn't such narcisissm homo-sexual ? Appropriate, as Narcissus was, well ignoring that one nymph chick.. yeah-yeah, but in the fascination of fascinating one's self gender cannot be forgotten

Vic (Vic), Friday, 20 August 2004 07:11 (twenty-one years ago)

And then I start trying to kiss the mirror.

This inspired that post, btw

That didn't work.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Friday, 20 August 2004 07:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I am happy enough with how I look I think. I guess we all have bad days but in general, no problems.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 20 August 2004 07:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I wish I fancied myself more. I used to fancy myself a bit, when I used to dress up as the kind of boys that I fancied - the dirty dronerock girl. But now I look in the mirror and think I look pretty scary and intense. "This hairdoo's truly evil, I'm not sure it's mine."

I'm not surprised Ken C fancies himself, though. It *is* the shiny hair, indeed.

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Friday, 20 August 2004 08:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, Kate otm on dressing up like boys you fancy. I recently got my hair cut into the style I like on the menfolk. I find myself wearing more and more suits/suit parts. I swear some mornings I consider taping down my tits.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Friday, 20 August 2004 08:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm ugly but I wear it well.

cºzen (Cozen), Friday, 20 August 2004 08:10 (twenty-one years ago)

That works sometimes.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Friday, 20 August 2004 08:12 (twenty-one years ago)

For some reason I really want to see a pic of rox in boy drag now.

AaronHz (AaronHz), Friday, 20 August 2004 08:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe I should actually do this again. It might help restore my damaged self confidence.

I should go back to the hair salon, take a picture of Aaron Delays and say "make my hair look like this again. GIVE ME GHD OR GIVE ME DEATH!!!!"

I have to lose a lot more weight before I can fit back into the DDB clothes again, though. Sigh. It's a goal to aim for, I guess, to get back into the leather trousers. I tried on my black Levis last night and although I could finally get them over my hips, they just wouldn't button.

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Friday, 20 August 2004 08:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, me too. I need to be able to fit into this pair of pinstriped black trousers I used to live inside. But yeah, drag pics to come, surely.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Friday, 20 August 2004 08:14 (twenty-one years ago)

This was me in stick-on sideburns with Skanky Ho Boy Hair...

http://website.lineone.net/~j_rattail/pic12/lol472.jpg

I wish I could find the picture of me dressed up as Nick Rhodes (in lovely suit and everything) sitting talking to Dan C6. That was a hilarious picture.

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Friday, 20 August 2004 08:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Roxy pix fast plz k thx bye.

Jimmybommy JimmyK'KANG (Nick Southall), Friday, 20 August 2004 08:27 (twenty-one years ago)

ken c (ken c), Friday, 20 August 2004 08:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Kate, that pic's in the Betsey Trottwood innit? Good hair! Blonde suits you.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 20 August 2004 09:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha he, well spotted, Liz. Yes, there are far too many pictures of us playing at the Betsey Trotwood. I can't believe you haven't seen me with blonde hair before... I had blonde hair for over a decade. How strange. (Though actually, I think that's a wig, it oddly looked almost exactly like the hair underneath.)

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Friday, 20 August 2004 09:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I threw all my wigs out when I moved. I actually kind of regret that now. But they were pretty skanky at this point. :-(

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Friday, 20 August 2004 09:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I think this is beyond classic, but then again I am the vainest person I know.

Matt's confession of the day: half of the big wall next to my bed is occupied by a gigantic mirror. Oh yes.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 20 August 2004 09:29 (twenty-one years ago)

It's probably better to fancy yrself than to hate the way you look. Personally, I don't fancy myself, nor do I ever think I look that bad. The universe doesn't hate me, it just doesn't care, and that's okay with me.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 20 August 2004 13:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I fancy the girl playing the foosball table in Kate's band.

nabiscothingy, Friday, 20 August 2004 13:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Not a football table, a Vox Continental.

Grrr, and we had such bad intra-band tension that to this day, I automatically lose respect for anyone that fancied her. (Even though we don't actually have any hard feelings left towards each other and are friends of a sort.)

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Friday, 20 August 2004 13:57 (twenty-one years ago)

haha, she's wearing the WE DON'T SUCK T-shirt, like in the drawing on the cover of the cd I have.

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 20 August 2004 14:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't talk about her any more. TALK ABOUT ME! TALK ABOUT ME!!!

I'm wearing a shirt that says "Track and Field Suck Big Hairy Moose Cock" (which I ended up giving to Steven Drew a few years ago, heh). That *MUCH* cooler than the stupid homemade "we don't suck" shirt THAT I MADE, I might point out. Humph.

band jealousies, they're still so real, so many years later...

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Friday, 20 August 2004 14:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I fanc myself today. My hair is shiny too and I have a nice coat.

Cathy (Cathy), Friday, 20 August 2004 14:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I have a classic love/hate relationship with myself

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 20 August 2004 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm pretty vain, and i do fancy myself, although certainly not all the time. i scrub up pretty good i think, but sometimes i just think... bleh.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 20 August 2004 14:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I stop fancying myself as soon as I see the pictures, usually.

Cathy (Cathy), Friday, 20 August 2004 14:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Photography is out of the question, I wouldn't want to break the spell of self-delusion

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 20 August 2004 14:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Ugh - I do NOT fancy myself. I would never have sex with me.

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Friday, 20 August 2004 14:29 (twenty-one years ago)

haha, after that one photo I always associate Kate bandmates of any sort with "Buffy". Willow's in the middle, obv, but who's "we don't suck" girl? Drusilla?

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Friday, 20 August 2004 14:30 (twenty-one years ago)

i hope cathy's hair will remain shiny in september.

i'm cutting mine this weekend and dreading it.

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 20 August 2004 14:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I make myself laugh all the time. I guess that means I fancy myself.

RastaKen.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 20 August 2004 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Mandee, you should fancy yrself. It'd totally be justified.

Jimmybommy JimmyK'KANG (Nick Southall), Friday, 20 August 2004 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I fancy myself so much I get all tongue-tied when I try to talk to myself

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 20 August 2004 14:34 (twenty-one years ago)

i fuss with my hair a lot, and when i get it just right, i give myself a little wink in the mirror.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 20 August 2004 14:35 (twenty-one years ago)

"wink"

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 20 August 2004 14:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha I read ken c wrong and thought RastaKen too.

Thank you Mark H, how nice. I like that picture, but mostly because of BsAs.

Cathy (Cathy), Friday, 20 August 2004 14:36 (twenty-one years ago)

hahahhahaha "Dreading" was a bad choice of words there!

ken c (ken c), Friday, 20 August 2004 14:36 (twenty-one years ago)

ken c (ken c), Friday, 20 August 2004 14:36 (twenty-one years ago)

please someone photoshop ken onto a pic of a rasta dude ok thx bye

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 20 August 2004 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

In my bathroom mirror I look at my reflection and say, "Hey - you ain't bad!". In my head I look allright. It's the shocking horror of trying on clothes in the Lord & Taylor changing rooms that makes me feel like me and myself have grown apart and that I don't quite fancy myself as I used to.

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Friday, 20 August 2004 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Mirrors in changing rooms ALWAYS make me feel fucking awful. I swear they are designed to make you look like shit.

Jimmybommy JimmyK'KANG (Nick Southall), Friday, 20 August 2004 14:48 (twenty-one years ago)

that'd be a big flaw in their design.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 20 August 2004 14:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Exactly.

Jimmybommy JimmyK'KANG (Nick Southall), Friday, 20 August 2004 14:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Some changing room mirrors make me look allright, it's these specific ones that are arranged so you can see EVERY ANGLE OF YOUR BODY that scare me. I think to myself, "Oh my god.. so that's what it's like to stand behind me. THAT'S WHAT PEOPLE SEE! KILL ME NOW!"

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Friday, 20 August 2004 14:50 (twenty-one years ago)

changing room mirrors are lethal for me.. i always look aight and i just buy everything. i'm worse than an actual salesperson. (cor ken you look hottt in that!)

ken c (ken c), Friday, 20 August 2004 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't they have special mirrors in shops?

jel -- (jel), Friday, 20 August 2004 14:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm sure I read it somewhere.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 20 August 2004 14:57 (twenty-one years ago)

The thing is though, gurlz always think they look awful from behind, and assume their bums are too big but MEN LOVE GURLZ BUMS, oh my god do men love gurlz bums, so chances are, unless you've got an absolutely enormous arse like some kidn of huge Africamn wading mammal, men will LOVE yr bum.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 20 August 2004 15:27 (twenty-one years ago)

four months pass...
True story:

The other day I went to the toilet intending to go for a poo, but walked pass the mirror and saw how great my hair was - it was just at its perfect dirt-stylability ratio. i had to hold back the poo to get a camera to take a few pictures of myself when my hair was looking so perfect.

ken c (ken c), Saturday, 15 January 2005 01:38 (twenty years ago)

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Saturday, 15 January 2005 01:55 (twenty years ago)

has anyone ever noticed a marked difference between mirror image and digital camera image? I recently held a digital camera right next to a mirror so that both had the same angle/lighting/etc. and there was a striking difference between the two. either i've been lying to myself for years in the mirror or the digital camera lens is a bit warped.

More than just a matter of no one's face being perfectly symmetrical? Or of the camera focusing on a different point of space than your gaze into the mirror?

j.lu (j.lu), Saturday, 15 January 2005 04:14 (twenty years ago)

Yes! I always try and take pics in the mirror cause my selfports always come out all crap, but even when I look shit hot in the mirror the picture comes out all posed and stupid :(

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 15 January 2005 04:30 (twenty years ago)

It must be something to do with how the brain parses physiognomy or whatever that word is (I know I know, that isnt the right spelling).

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 15 January 2005 04:31 (twenty years ago)

A photographic captures one still image of your face, what is statistically likely to be an awkward expression or a transition in expression (which seems artificial since we don't normally notice these transitions), but in the mirror, your face is moving, being expressive, even if you think you're holding it perfectly still, which is more natural and hence more attractive.

n/a (Nick A.), Saturday, 15 January 2005 05:17 (twenty years ago)

xpost - i was hoping it was just me because it freaked me out (not quite on par with the time i looked in the mirror on acid but close).

i think depth perception might also play a part, since what I noticed most was that I could see both ears clearly in the mirror while in the photo the ears looked pulled back some, almost hidden, like a subtle fisheyed-lens type thing. it might just be the viewpoint of two eyes in the mirror vs. the single eye viewpoint of the camera, but i can't help thinking there is something psychological behind it.

contribute, Saturday, 15 January 2005 05:22 (twenty years ago)

has anyone ever noticed a marked difference between mirror image and digital camera image?
yeah - you can't frame your own picture. but i chalk most of it up to lighting/flash.
